“Excellent Hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2010

We stayed at the Paradise Pier for 2 nights! What a fantastic hotel! It all started from the moment we checked in! All for ready for us to arrive! Our check in was swift and informative. It wasa week away from my daughter's birthday and once we told the receptionist this, she was given balloons, badges and a signed photograph of the Disney Princesses! Then we were informed that we were given an upgrade to a room with a view! And what a view!! A fantastic view of California Adventure Park!! We even watched the show World of Colour from our room!
We had opted for the concierge service in our package and have no regrets we did! It is a wonderful service with only a few other people in the room! An extremely fresh continental breakfast than snacks all day then wine/beer and cheeses plus a hot dish and freshly cut vegetables with a dip!! And on top of all this you have access to unlimited sodas at any time, which you can even take out of the room!! Plus a DVD service!
The only minus I'd mention which is hardly the hotel's fault is that its a good 15mins walk from the park or 5mins to the shuttle which out of the 8 times that we wanted to use it, 6 times it was out of order!! The pool is on the small side and gets crowded in the afternoon and is difficult to find a sunbed.
FREE WIFI around all the hotel is obviously a big plus!!
We had a lovely stay and would definitely stay here again when we go back to Disneyland!
Thank you to all the staff!!

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Paradise Pier. We had adjoining rooms which were spacious and comfortable. Our 4 yr old loved breakfast with the characters, especially Daisy Duck. The characters had wonderful interaction with the children and made sure everyone in the restaurant had plenty of attention and interaction. The adults enjoyed it as well. The food was excellent with great omlettes made to order. Yes, it was a pricey breakfast, but very well worth it considering the entertainment also. We viewed it as a worthy splurge. The hotel was spotlessly clean. The rooms were made up as soon as we left each morning for the Park. Even when coming back early one day the rooms were done up fresh and neat, always with a treat left for the children. We were impressed how efficiently both check -in and check-out were. This can be a hassle at times for families. The staff handled it well and was able to give directions to multiple guests at check-out. We would definitely stay at Paradise Pier on our next Disneyland trip! GREAT experience!

The Paradise Pier was a below average hotel, that had overpriced rooms, with expensive room service. We had our childs life jacket TAKEN from our room, and the hotel did NOTHING to resolve the issue, like they said they would. It was close to the parks, but that was it. Housekeeping was the only positive experience we had. We asked for a park view, they said it shouldn't be an issue, well, didn't get one...Will not recommend this to anyone. Sorry

We liked the Paradise Pier, but the problem we had was the distance to any restaurants or stores. It is secluded and if you aren't willing to pay crazy prices for food, you will find yourself walking a long distance. For us, it would have been better staying on harbor. Close to restaurants on our way in and out. Even to buy a small bottle of milk in the gift shop was almost $4.00! It took over 30 minutes to walk to the closest gas station. The hotel was nice itself, but took forever to check in! After a 8 hour car ride, the last thing you want to do is wait 5 hours for your room. I think off property is just as nice and we will save our money for treats, instead of a disney hotel.

Having stayed at the Grand California several times and being an annual visitor to Disneyland, we wanted to try something new. My mom, sister and I were visiting for the Candelight Processional at Christmas time and selected a Double Queen Room with Sofa with Concierge services. Our stay was for 4 nights.

ROOM
Our room was large, plenty big enough for 3 adult women. The sofa sleeper was an excellent touch and was rather comfortable as a couch and a bed. Very clean, as always, and had a very open feel (which is hard to do with 3 adult women). The beds were comfortable and room was rather quiet for the amount of children on the premises. The bathrooms were great and very user friendly.

CONCIERGE
Prior to our trip, it was explained to us that concierge had priority check-in. We were not offered this feature upon arrival even though we clearly stated we were concierge guests. We were also given standard room keys, which proved to be problem later on in our stay with a concierge staffer and were asked to leave the concierge lounge. Most of the concierge staff was fabulous, however one staffer was not. She really dampened our spirits with her lack of assistance and un-Disney-like attitude. At one point, in the concierge lounge, she ignored us to the point we had to visit the help desk on the main floor for assistance. When they attempted to get assistance from her and could not, we left it at that. The treats and drinks were a nice touch, especially the evening hours. However, I would decline pay the extra fees for the service in future. We did not get our moneys worth, especially with the lack of services we received.

LOCATION
Don't be fooled, it's a hike. Even if taking the Monorail from Downtown, it's still not a very close location. It's rather nice in the morning to walk Downtown to the park, but in the evenings you doubt your choice.

RESTAURANTS
We only ate at the Surfside Lounge, but it was incredible. Great food, great service, and a very comfortable rest. I intend to visit the lounge on our upcoming trip.

ELEVATORS
BUYER BEWARE! If you stay here, the biggest part of your trip is going to be trying to get an elevator. It is a nightmare to say the least. Plan a 10 to 15-minute wait during peak times.

DECOR
Since our trip was during Christmas, the lobby had a great tree. Characters were sighted often and we even were able to have a chat with Santa. Disney always outdoes itself in this department and this was no exception.

THE RESULTS
Would I stay here again? No. It was comfortable enough, but for the price and the hike, it really didn't live up to any "Resort" status. I recently took a quick trip with friends and stayed at the Tropicana Inn on the other side of the park in an effort to save money. It was much closer and the room accomodations were just as comfortable for less than half the price of PP. All in all, I think this hotel has alot of improvements to be made before it should be classified as a "Resort" hotel.

If you are looking strictly for the convenience of being near the parks, then this hotel will do. Other than that, I think the rates are absurd for what you get. Having just come from the Four Seasons in Las Vegas where our room cost about the same amount, this place was a huge disappointment. Upon entering the room (1406), we found a dirty bathroom floor complete with pubic hair, a dirty mirror and vanity. Also dirty prints on the back of the door that resembled blood. We also found hair... a lot of hair in one of our beds. Additionally, the bottom drawer of the dresser would not stay closed and was a real hazard as it was wide open at floor level unless we propped something up against it. The safe was also broken. We called to complain about the dirty room, drawer and safe. They said they would send someone from housekeeping, and someone did come right away. She changed the bed and re-cleaned the bathroom quite thoroughly. The drawer and safe were never addressed while we were there. The decor and condition of the decor in this hotel is pretty outdated and shabby looking. The beds, in an age where most hotel chains have greatly upgraded the comfort of beds and bedding, these are old hotel quality mattresses, with very average pillows and linens. No padding, down, duvets, or plushness. Motel 6 quality! Would really be a nice touch after a day at DL. The staff is friendly and helpful, but other than it being convenient to the parks, there is nothing "magical" here.

We stayed here in July 2010. The hotel was very nice and clean, and the rooms are larger than comparable Disney properties in Orlando at DisneyWorld. The hotel is within easy walking distance of Downtown Disney and California Adventures, and a very short monorail ride to Disneyland. We were very happy with our visit and it certainly met our expectations.
