If you are walking from a Good Neighbor Hotel to Disneyland, Downtown Disney is worth a "glance" at the least. Of course, the Disney Store offers a wide range of items. And, with nearby eateries and other gift shops, a family could easily spend a few hours exploring. If anything, for families with limited time in the park, Downtown Disney may provide an extra hour or so after the park closes to do some souvenir shopping.
Yes, the area is nothing different than a "strip mall" of sorts. However, our family enjoyed the thematic decorations of each business, and quite frankly, some stores in the area are not available in western South Dakota. Simply walking through the area is relaxing either before or after "playing" in the park.
