“Better than expected”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2013

We stayed here for 3 nights in the Kids Suite and my experience at the Portofino was wonderful. The rooms were well kept, check in was friendly and fast, we required some additional towels and received them within 5 minutes. Available was free internet [---] and it worked fine in our room. For Disneyland the location is great. It is a 10 minute walk to the front gate. Don't bother taking the shuttles.
We did not use the pool. The parking gets tight towards the end of the night but there is more parking out back. There is no breakfast in the hotel but there is plenty of places to eat on Harbor or Katella. There is ongoing construction next door at the old Jolly Roger hotel and the workers start at 7am. Yes, the construction will wake you up so bring earplugs if you stay in the north building and want to sleep in. We were happy we chose the Portofino.

Room Tip: Select a room in the south tower on the top floor.

We had a great trip! The bathrooms and rooms were very clean but the decor is a little dated. The bed is very comfortable. It is a very short walk to the Happiest Place on Earth!! The pool closes at 10 pm on Friday and Saturdays and I wish it was open longer.

Unless you plan to stay more than two days. Don't do the kids suite with the adult park hopper tickets. Opt for the two queen beds and buy single day tickets at the park. Room was ok, staff was good. Description of the room and amenitites was lacking and needs better clarification on what is include and what isn't. No resturant or cafe located on site, so expect to pay hire prices at the park or close to it. If you can afford to stay at one of the Disney Land Resort Hotel; do it.

Room Tip: Kids suite wasn't necessary, too tired at the end of the day to care whether we had a couple of...

I'm impressed with this hotel. We stayed here for 2 nights for Disneyland and had a wonderful experience overall. Check in was painless, no lines, quick, and the lady at the front desk was very nice and helpful. The room was spotless clean, had a nice balcony, and beds like clouds. There is ample parking in garage and outdoor near the pool. If you want a quiet stay, ask for a room away from the street. It's a short to Disney parks, also next to 7-12 and ABC Store, very convenient. Overall, a very comfortable stay!

We stayed at the Portofino for 3 nights. Sat - Mon. The walls are thin, and our neighbors were loud Saturday night. But on Sun and Mon one could hear a pin drop. Very quiet. My advice is to stay there at the beginning of the week. The room was clean but VERY smelly. We had our sliding glass door open until we went to bed for fresh air. Overall an average hotel experience.

Good Value for Space and Amenities in Kid's Suite

I found a good deal for Portofino via their internet package where for $266/night you receive two-2-Day adult Disney park hopper tickets. We stayed for 3 nights in the 2nd week of April 2013. Elevators were pretty quick. You needed your guest card to swipe at all entrances to the hotel (except lobby), fitness room & pool area. We stayed on the 3rd floor in the building closest to Disney. The customer service was good for check in and out. There is a ~15 min walk to the Disneyland admission areas.

We made use of the pool, mini-frig and coffee maker. Pool area had towels for the guests to use. Yay! The kids enjoyed the heated pool and hot tub the first night. The kids were so excited about the bunk beds, but we moved the top mattress to the floor for one of kids to sleep on the floor for safety. Even the bunk beds had individual wall lights for each bunk bed for reading. Nice touch. (I think) in the kids area there was a pull out sofa bed & microwave (we didn't use.) It's great for the kids to have their own space to play and the parents can relax in the main area. The TVs were flat screens in both areas.

In agreement with others' reviews, you could hear talking in the hallway or kids pounding down the hallway. Perhaps, hotel guests need reminders to not to chat or run loudly in the hallway. So the walls may need some insulation, but it didn't bother us since we went to bed after 9pm and it seemed pretty quiet. We requested an upper room away from the stairs, elevator and ice makers. We made use of the wifi with the laptop and it worked.

Bathroom was great with two sinks: one in the main part of room and one in the bathroom. Sinks were placed at a slightly lower height which is good for little kids and shorter adults. They gave us 6 big bath towels for the four of us (2 adults, 2 kids: 4, 7yr) plus some hand and face towels. The bath tub had a slow drain and occasional low pressure in the shower or spigot, but plenty of hot water. Portofino supplied 2 hand soaps, 1 bath soap and shower gel, shampoo & conditioner & lotion. There's a handy clothesline in the tub for drying swim suits. Hairdryer & Kleenex were supplied.

Overall, the room was clean. It had modern furniture with clean lines and the carpets seemed newer and clean in the lobby & room. We made use of the French doors when the kids went to bed and they slid open and closed smoothly. The linens were white with white fluffy comforter that stayed on the bed--not like the slippery polyester ones found at other hotels. I found the king bed quite comfortable and the kids bedding was soft and comfy. The A/C worked on a digital thermostat and cooled the room off with good results.

Our family of 4 stayed at this hotel for spring break at the end of March 2013 and liked it a lot. Our children are 12 and 14 and the room set up with the Kid’s Suite at this hotel is great. I don’t know why more hotels do not offer a floor plan like this hotel does with the Kid’s Suite. This is the perfect room for a hotel by a location like Disney where so many of the guests will be families. We have visited Disneyland many times over the past 10 years. We go almost every year. We have stayed at the 3 Disney hotels and at 3 Good Neighbor hotels. I can recommend all of the hotels that we have stayed at for different reasons. The main reason I would recommend the Portofino in is the Kid’s Suite rooms that they have. A few tips: This room has a microwave and a mini fridge. If you buy groceries you will save money buying them a few miles from Disneyland. The same goes for a bottle of wine.
Disneyland has brought back the awesome soundtrack for the fireworks that they used during the 50th anniversary celebration. Watch the fireworks from the top of the train station steps. Then hop the train over to New Orleans Square to avoid swimming upstream through all of the people who leave the park after the fireworks. If you are at Disneyland multiple days and have seen the fireworks and World of Color you may want to check out what they do at Small World during the fireworks. In conclusion if you want your vacation to include a little private time for the parents, book a Kid’s Suite at the Portofino Inn.

Room Tip: If you find a trip to Disney romantic the Kid's Suite is a must.
