I've been to Roy's in Honolulu, but this was my first visit to the Roy's Anaheim. Service was outstanding, and the food overall was pretty good, but some hits and misses.
Here's what we had:
- Lakanilau Roll - read better than it actually tasted. I actually think the wagyu beef actually took away from the typical "fresh" feel of eating sushi.
- Korean Fried Lollipop Chicken - marked as a signature dish, and I could immediately tell why. It was amazing, it was incredibly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The best dish of the night. It is costly - there's only four pieces.
- Crunchy Filet Mignon Dumplings - also really good. Not sure if it's wise to use filet mignon as the filling, but together with the sauce, it was very good.
- Seared Salmon - cooked medium, so saved from being overcooked. Not bad, not great.
- Grilled Pork Porterhouse - huge! Nice BBQ sauce, but found some parts of it overcooked and dry.
- Signature Chocolate Souffle - very good. Just about every fine dining restaurant has a flourless chocolate cake so they all taste the same, but this one was done flawlessly, and paired with the rasberry coulis and ice cream, it was quite nice.
- Kids meals come with complimentary cheese quesadillia and carrots/celery which can be quite filling on their own, so I suggesting splitting when you have small children
The service was really outstanding. Server was super friendly, very informative, and really good with the kids. Made every person at the table feel at home.
Overall, a good visit. Not all the dishes are great, so I would recommend sticking to the signature dishes where possible. The 3 course prix fixe is a great deal too.
