“Nice hotel, clean room, fantastic location”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

This is a four-star style of hotel with some unusual features. There is no restaurant in-house but this doesn't matter because there are plenty nearby including one in the hotel's parking lot. The hotel is a conversion from something more like a motel and many of the passageways are along shared balconies.

My room was very clean. The grout in the bathroom was vivid white and the room was spotless. The towels were good. The carpet was soft underfoot with a clean feel. The bed linen was immaculate. One light switch didn't work but no matter there were plenty of other lighting options. There is air conditioning which is via individual floor mounted units and so is a little bit noisy - no matter to me I find a little background noisy makes it easier to sleep. The fridge was a little noisy too but within the realms of acceptable.

I've stayed at the Grand Californian (the premium nearby Disney hotel) and to be honest there's not much difference in terms of the comfort of the rooms - the public areas are very different but for me it the comfort of the room that matters; there's a big difference in price though with this hotel being about one third of the price.

The staff were very friendly. The valet parking in particular was slick with top-class staff.

It's tough to imagine access to Disneyland being any better. It's a five minute gentle walk away. It's actually as close as if you stayed in some of the Disney hotels themselves.

If you calibrate your expectations to a hotel that is four-star rather than five and that it's a motel conversion (and so has some curiosities compared to a standard hotel) then you should view this as a very reasonable hotel with a fantastic location.

I was staying for business by choice and commuting to a seminar at Huntington Beach (I had the option of staying at an upmarket luxury resort there instead). My reasoning was that I could commute to where I needed to be in the day and spend my nights at Disneyland. This worked out great.

To start with the basics I was traveling with my family. Me (32 years old), my wife (28 years old), my two daughters (10 &11) and my son (8 months).

We are Disney fanatics and go 2-3 times a year for at least 2-3 days each trip. We have stayed at the Grand Californian a few times, but mostly stay at the Marriott next to the convention center. However this time we chose to stay at the Fairfield Inn because of its close proximity and ease of access for our 8 month old to take naps.

We arrived at 10am Sunday morning already prepared for our rooms to not be available since it's a big checkout day. The front desk agent was courteous about informing us no rooms were ready but they would give us a call when they were available and if we didn't hear from them by 4pm to assume they were ready since that was the guranteed check in time. They offered to store our luggage which was nice.

We headed to the park and within an hour or so I received a call stating one of our rooms (a king with crib for the baby) was available but our ajoining room with double beds was not. Around 2:30 or so my wife headed back to the hotel to have my son nap. aroudn 3:15 she called me saying the fire alarm had gone off and when out on the walkway she noticed someone had come out of the ajoining room to ours.

She spoke with the person and he informed my wife he was going to be in the room until at least 6-7pm when they would then leave for their flight. That arrangement wasn't going to work for my family so I left Disneyland with my daughters to go sort it out with the front desk.

Upon speeking with the front desk agent a manager overheard the start of my conversation and said "oh yea, they will be in that room for awhile" and the front desk agent asked me if that would be ok. I told them it wouldn't really work for me because we needed the second room and if the person already in didn't leave until 7pm it would take until at least 8/9 pm before housekeeping could clean and inspect the room.

At this point the manager walked away and the front desk clerk said he could see what he could do. After a minute or two the manager walked back over and proceeded to whisper to the front desk agent for a few moments. This annoyed me and struck me as rude. They were obviously talking about me and/or my room and if they couldn't say it in front of me, the manager shoudl have called the front desk agent to the back.

After the whispering was done the front desk agent asked if I could come back in 20 minutes to see if they could help me. I told them I would go up to my current room and they could call me if they found something, otherwise I'd be back at 4pm to see what the story was since that was the guranteed check in time.

10 minutes after I got up to our room I received a call saying they found rooms for us and were sending the new keys up. I thanked them for the help and hung up. I sent my wife ahead to the new rooms while I packed up our belongings onto a bellcart. I promptly got another text from my wife saying I needed to see the rooms.

We had been moved from our King room overlooking the pool/disneyland into two double bedded rooms right next to the 5 freeway. With all the lovely road noise to go along with it.

I waited in the room for about 10 minutes to see if there would be a follow up call from the front desk asking if the rooms were ok but none ever came. I went back downstairs to see if the rooms were just a temporary fix or if this was our new rooms. I was told they were are new rooms and that was final.

Rather then continue the fight and ruin the vacation for my family I went back to the rooms and accept the situation as it was. I did however write a quick e-mail using Marriotts web page stating my dissatisfaction and requesting to be contacted about it.

On our way back out to Disneyland that evening I stopped by the front desk to ask for the business card of the front desk manager and/or the GM of the hotel to write a quick note about my displeasure as well. The person I spoke with was a front desk supervisor who said "oh your the guy in room XXX" I said yes I am that guy and he asked if he could help me at all. I said no thank you I just want the e-mail info. He gave me a card of the front desk manager and told me they don't give out the GM's information. He then told me the situation wasn't the hotels fault.

I asked if that meant it was my fault and he said it was not. It was that they didn't find out about the initial room having that late of a checkout until after 1pm so they couldn't possibly know when I checked in at 10. I told him this was true however they did know when my wife picked up the keys around 2:30. He just said it wasn't their fault and I walked away.

It has now been 4+ days since my initial e-mail was written and have yet to receive a response so I am now taking to tripadvisor and yelp.

I understand I am ranting a bit, but I have stayed at all the different Marriott types. From JW to Fairfield/Couryard and the service is normally fantastic. My family also has a timeshare at the Marriot in Maui that we go to each year and they are extraordinary.

I strongly suggest not using this hotel for your family trip, but rather using the Marriott Convention Center if you have brand loyalty or spending a little bit more on one of the actual Disney properties.

The only positive of this property is its proximity to Disneyland and the easy 5-10 minute walk from door to Disneyland's gates.

Room Tip: If you are going to stay at this property stay away from the freeway side. Most hotels have sound in...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for reaching out through Trip Advisor and via e-mail on our Marriott website. I am so sorry your stay was not "magical". I apologize for the miss communication and the way we handled this situation. We should have changed your guest rooms to the room types you requested. I feel badly they were not the same original rooms.

I am glad I was able to contact you via your personal email to apologize and acknowledge the issue to your satisfaction.

Sincerely,
Cara Marshall-Bryan

The best thing this place has going for it is its proximity to Disneyland. Its a 10-minute walk from the gate, and it works out perfectly if you need to come back mid-day for kids' naps. You can just park your car when you arrive, and not worry about it again until you leave. The hotel iteslf is fine, although its a little bit older and rough around the edges (compared to your average Fairfield). It exists in a row of similar-looking, low-slung, budget-minded hotels and chain restaurants on a fairly ugly street that borders the park. The whole area is pretty charmless, but this hotel seemed to be one of the better looking of the lot. The beds were nice, the room was relatively quiet (with a little pool noise), and at the end of the day, that's all that really matters for most people, who are just there to sleep between long-days in the park.

Room Tip: The hotel is shaped like a big "L", with one leg, perpendicular to the main road and the p...

This is my "go-to" hotel when I visit Disneyland .... It's super close to the main entrance which makes it convenient for taking a break in the room. Even though its not super-fancy, it has everything for a nice stay... And let's face it ... When you are there, you are there to be at Disney!

We stayed here one night while visiting Disney. Great location and value. The staff is very courteous. The valet parking is less expensive than the Disney parking rates. Will probably stay here again.

We arrived Friday morning, and although check in time isn't until 4pm, there was a room available and we were able to check in to our room early. This was so convenient, allowing us to unpack our vehicle before heading to Disneyland. Housekeeping was wonderful, even folding our towels nicely by the sink. The staff was friendly, check in and check out was quick with no problems. Our room was clean, and the beds comfortable. The hotel is located within minutes walking distance from Disneyland.

The only quibblet I would have is the internet service there is very slow, and not very strong. But really, when you're at Disneyland with the family, internet shouldn't be a top priority anyway :-), so I'm still giving a high rating.

A great place to stay for a Disneyland trip. All the staff we encountered were very friendly, we chose to stay in a Disney themed room and it was decorated with just the right amount of Disney decor, the Market on the 3rd floor is wonderful - grab a breakfast sandwich and head right on out rather than wait in line at the McDonald's next door, and of course the short walk into Disneyland is great. No being at the mercy of shuttles. There was a small couch in our room which made the room seem even bigger. The bathroom was fine. There was no fan in it but there was a vent next to the shower head and maybe that's why the bathroom never seemed overly steamy or stuffy. WiFi and TV channels were good but we weren't in the room much except to sleep. The beds were fine, too. I have always tried to stay at different hotels/motels when I go to Disneyland, but I don't think I have to do that anymore after staying here.

Room Tip: We liked facing the park. But like with all hotels/motels, you can have a great room with inconside...
