“Closed For September”
Reviewed September 10, 2013

Just wanted to let people know that this place is apparently closed the whole month of September. The B & B we stayed at in Sutter Creek referred us to this place for sandwiches on our way to wine tasting. Got there and they were closed and we were told that they close each September. So be aware of that.

“Outstanding Bakery”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

This is always a favorite stop when we are in the area. They always have an interesting and tasty selection of special breads. We initially discovered them when we had their bread at Taste Restaurant in Plymouth, CA.

“Don't miss this stop while touring Highway 49!”
Reviewed June 7, 2013

A drive up (or down) Highway 49's Gold Country wouldn't be the same without a stop at Andrae's Bakery. These days, tiny (but delightful) Amador City is bypassed by the main Highway 49 traffic, but keep your eyes peeled for the turnoff for the little village and venture a bit down the road to explore and learn about the town's history (cute shops and a great antique store, too).

Even if you don't *think* you're hungry, stop in at Andrae's Bakery. As soon as you walk in the door of the diminutive bakery, you'll sniff and know you're experiencing a bit of yeasty heaven. The breads are varied and delicious and the pastries are heavenly. Sandwiches are pre-made (but not in a bad way) and feature combinations refreshingly different than the usual sandwich fare (think Kobe beef pastrami on ciabatta or rosemary ham with french brie and dijon mustard on an organic French roll). Sandwiches are wrapped up in butcher-type paper and lie waiting for you alongside a rainbow of cheeses and deli-type treats. Go ahead--try some of the specialty salami or Point Reyes Blue cheese.

Don't forget a cookie for dessert, either. The oatmeal cookie was a tall mound of walnut and raisiny goodness (and, thankfully, not too sweet). In our household, we're still talking about the melt-in-your-mouth flavor of the peanut butter cookies. Knowing we'd be in a hotel that night, we also purchased a couple of raisin/cinnamon rolls for the next morning--again something a bit different: not the usual pillowy soft style but more of a dense, flatter roll baked to a delicate, buttery (hence, flakey) perfection.

Now, take all these goodies and head outside to enjoy your repast. Tables punctuate the front patio (looking out on all the not-so-busy-but-very-interesting happenings of one of Amador City's main streets) or head out back and let the breeze whisper secrets as you chow down.

We just wish they were open on Mondays so we could have tried some new Andraes Bakery items on our way back home.

“perfect launching point for a day of wine tasting”
Reviewed May 19, 2013

The breads, sandwiches, beverages and ambiance make this our favorite launch into a day of wine tasting. Their pre-made sandwiches are truly gourmet creations (I especially love the pastrami on very crusty crunch roll)...and the coffee is roasted perfectly.

“Special bakery”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

The small town of Amador, 3 miles from Sutter Creek, has a fanastic bakery. Stop by, you won't be disappointed. Then go thru some nice shops through-out the town.
