“Excellent place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2014

The Rim Rock Motel is on the eastern edge of greater downtown Alturas, a tiny town in the middle of a vast nothingness. From our motel room door, we could see the Warner Mountains to the east, as well as the open space between us and the mountains. The scenery is austerely beautiful. We preferred it to Klamath Falls, which we had seen the night before.
The motel is everything one can need in this spot: clean, pleasant. The TV and wifi worked, so we were entertained. The owner was polite, friendly, and engaged with us when we wanted him to. No complaints here, and no sense that there was some other better deal across town. I'd stay here again if I ever need to return to this town.

Alturas is cattle country, big and open with more motels than restaurants. Tom and Rhonda are doing their best to make this older facility as clean and peaceful as possible. We were not bothered by traffic on the highway or the one freight train that we noticed. Yes, the bathroom was compact and the deodorant pungent but overall it is just what we wanted.

We were pleasantly surprised by this little motel. Rooms were small but very clean and had everything we needed. The manager/owner was very friendly. Deer came across the road at dusk. We slept well. We also recommend the Wagon Wheel Restaurant for delicious comfort food.

I thought the tiled bathrooms were absolutely awesome, both the showers & bathtubs, with the
shower gel & shampoo on the shower wall, but the toilets could have been higher like disabled
ones & maybe bars to hold on to? Excellent location as well & I also appreciated their surveillance equipment, but my situation was such that I stayed there for over a month & right
from the first I was told we usually don't rent to locals, somebody is not going to come looking for you, are they? You know as good Christians, you are to be good citizens by complying with the law & Penal 365 says it is a crime for a motel to refuse to rent to a person without good cause & 365 defines good cause as not paying rent or having an infectious disease,etc
Check-out time is 10:30 a.m. & I would come back to my room & even though I had not turned
my key in by 9 a.m. my bed was stripped & things I felt I could leave in my room were missing
& so I politely asked where they were & did not get politeness in return. Manager Flick threw a
temper tantrum & told me to get out, which is not good cause & Penal 136 & 136.1 says he could be arrested for making me the victim of a crime plus Romans 13 says you are to comply
with the laws of the land & flick was not being a very good Christian. & like it says in Proverbs
only a fool believes everything they are told a wise person understands the need for proof & evidence! Also, are taxes to be collected after thirty days?

You were checked out. The maid knocked with no response, your vehicle was not present, the maid entered the room to find all personal belongings were gone and the key was in the room to which the maid collected along with the trash left in the room (in which your spoon was found be me). Regarding the law not allowing us to go into a room before a guest has checked out; That is a fantasy as no such law exists. I am VERY knowledgeable of business law especially regarding the lodging industry.

You fall into category #1 below;

Hotels and motels

If you are a resident in a hotel or motel, you do not have the rights of a tenant in any of the following situations:

1. You live in a hotel, motel, residence club, or other lodging facility for 30 consecutive days or less, and your occupancy is subject to the state’s hotel occupancy tax.

2. You live in a hotel, motel, residence club, or other lodging facility for more than 30 days, but have not paid for all room and related charges owing by the 30th day.

3. You live in a hotel or motel to which the manager has a right of access and control, and all of the following is true:

The hotel or motel allows occupancy for periods of fewer than seven days.
All of the following services are provided for all residents:
- a fireproof safe for residents' use;
- a central telephone service;
- maid, mail, and room service; and
- food service provided by a food establishment that is on or next to the hotel or motel grounds and that is operated in conjunction with the hotel or motel.
If you live in a unit described by either 1, 2 or 3 above, you are not a tenant; you are a guest. Therefore, you don't have the same rights as a tenant.4 For example, the proprietor of a hotel can lock out a guest who doesn't pay his or her room charges on time, while a landlord would have to begin formal eviction proceedings to evict a nonpaying tenant.

We are not a PUBLIC business. We are a PRIVATE business that complies very strictly to God’s law and California business law as it applies to the lodging industry. Something you need to understand is that as a GUEST of a motel/hotel, you do NOT have the rights of tenant law. It is you that are unaware of the law regarding a motel/hotel.

Something you need to be aware of is that your reputation preceded you but I GAVE YOU the chance anyway

Regarding the definition of a public vs. private business

This is defined under corporate law. Educate yourself. We are a PRIVATE sole proprietorship!

You were not permitted to rent another room night and evicted from the property because twice you accused maids of impropriety that did not occur. By upsetting them, you disrupted the operation of our business and that IS grounds for banning you from the property per penal code 365.

Although I'd been in Alturas previously, my recent trip was the first that required multiple days - and I couldn't have selected a better motel. The owners were cordial, graciously arranged for my arrival despite the late hour (abound 12:30-12:40 AM), and provided what was probably the cleanest/neatest room I've experienced in many years of travel. Alturas is a small community and the hotel - on the outskirts of town - was quiet and private while still being within minutes of restaurants and community businesses. Although not large in size, the room arrangement and amenities provided (good wi-fi access, microwave, refrigerator, cable tv) were excellent. I appreciated the wall-mounted shampoo dispenser in the shower. All in all, a really good work atmosphere that contributed to the success of my trip.

We are so very happy that you enjoyed your stay with us especially with our VERY cold climate.
For a few days, we were colder than Danali in Alaska.

Hubby travels for his job and most of the time I get to come along. This is/was the fourth night of a trip that took us from Portland, to Weaverville, to Portola, then Susanville and today Alturas. Everything nice and lovely said about this quaint little motel is spot on. Can't thank you enough for making our last night on the road comfy. Hope to see you all again next time we are in town. Cheers

A beautiful motel and maintained to the highest standards with some lovely homely touches in the room. Everything is spotlessly clean and fresh and one gets the impression that nothing is left to get tired and old before it's replaced. Each room has seats outside with a small table which is great for relaxation after a days hiking/touring. We found the owners to be very welcoming and friendly and they were helpful in recommending places for an evening meal.

We got a great nights sleep and didn't hear any noise from our neighbours so one assumes that the walls aren't paper thin as in many roadside establishments. The motel is set back a little way from the road so there was no truck noise at night.

Of all the small roadside independent motels we've stayed in, the Rim Rock stands out as the best. Initially we wanted to stay nearer the town but the reviews made this place a must stay and we'd not hesitate in coming back if ever we were in the area.
