Dave, thank you for your review. There's nothing more valuable to a business than the honest feedback of its guests. Of course, here at Viejas, the relationship we share with our guests goes way beyond just "business." That's why I wanted to reach out and personally offer my gratitude for taking the time to share your thoughts. I invite you to offer your insights and suggestions any time.

We are sorry to hear about your experience. You are not alone. We have many guests who are very sensitive to smoke. I'm not sure if you were aware of this, but we offer an entire non-smoking section for our guests based on feedback such as this.

Also, I wanted to let you know about the upcoming opening Viejas Hotel, which will feature non-smoking rooms. Reservations are now available, and guests can view replica rooms in the Viejas Outlets. I invite you back to enjoy all the amenities and excitement that Viejas has to offer. I'm sure you will not be disappointed. We are striving for a Four Diamond AAA rating and are making vast improvements to the entire property.

We hope you'll visit us again soon Dave, and as always, please let us know how we can be of service.

Sincerely,
Your Viejas Team

“Not that great anymore”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2012

It used to be terrific, the place to go. But now it's super expensive, slot machines won't pay anything and their offering pales in comparison to places like Barona or others around.

“Good Buffet for $15”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

On the way to AZ from Cali I stopped and had crab legs, prime rib, pork roast, a number of salads and sugar free desserts ( diabetes must run in gamblers).
This was worth the $15 ( If you let them sign you up in there players club).

“Miles away from Vegas, decide if distance is worth it to you.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012

So... we live in the area have frequented this casino off adn on for years since it first started. things have changed quite a bit, some for the better adn some for the worst, but that is what happens with most everything.
They have changed up the dining options frequently. they did have a sandwhich shop/deli upstairs that was decent and now it is a mexican food place, same similiar layout and not with any ambiance, along the same liines as the previous deli so to speak, more like a mexican snack shop. The food was average, just like taco shop food, could have been better, but if you just want a snack or if the food is great to you go for it. the pricing is average to midrange and the portions were substancial.
The buffett has changed yet once again and they do offer some serious discounts for gamers. Remember if you have any card above a bronze you are considered a VIP for the buffet line (we didnt know and had to ask). marketing should really put up a specific sign. the ambiance has turned modern along the lines as harrahs ( modern food theater), the older theme was more natural, with trees and clouds on the ceiling etc. it seemed a bit more intimate and comfortable and not so sterile. Seems like they are wanting to update everyhting, but if so should at least stay with the original theme. The food was good, the average buffet items, nothing stood out, no alaskan king crab or anything like that. they had snow crab and shrimp, soups and salads and the regular layers of desserts. With the discount for gaming it is worth it, Without that I would have to say no, decide for yourself. Again in Vegas if you are a "VIP" you have a special dining area, so basically all you get here is to the frontt of the line.
The grove restaraunt is alwyas a nice place to get away from the hustle and noise of the casino. the food has alwyas been great and also priced within reason. the staff has alwyas been professional and friendly. Honestly it has changed some from what it started out to be, more upscale, but I think that the powers that be know that. You used to have to make reservations adn now basically can get in when ever you want. it is just not that that has changed, if you have frequented for some time you will notice, enough said, again worth a visit.
they had a dner that changed to a hamberger place that changed to a cafe' and most likely will change to somehting else, that area has never lasted long with a food venue there, maybe this third time is a charm and they will do away with it. they should really give thought as to why nothing ever works our there, staff?food?service?too close to casino floor? agian you decide if it is for you, it is not for us.
There is also another asian style restaraunt that rreplaced the other two that were there previously and, again if you want to be wsited on to be served foor from a buffet line in the back that you could have gotten yourself at the buffet it might be for you. Do yourself a favor in case you dont like asain fast food and go across the street to Rubios at least you know that it is unauthentic, mexican fast food.
Bar service - is great if you enjoy a beverage adn the prices are reasonable, they do have happy hour specials. There are a few servers workign the casino floor, but not as you would think. Of course the alco holic beverages are not complimentary as this is not vegas, so agian decide if that is a bummer for you.
he casino is kind of chopped up as they seem to be doing the best they can with the design that they started with. they have removed the large bingo tent to make way for the new hotel, which will be an interesting addition. They agian have started to update things with a more modern flair, carpet, customer service area ( players card desk) etc. In a way it works fro us adn in a way it doesnt, there just seems to be a scattered sense to the place, many small areas that are connected to make the larger casino, and then there is the non -smoking area that si really not spearated by anyting from the rest of the casino, so you might as well be in the smoking area. Doesnt mater to us , but you have to decide if that si a draw back for you. It does get busy on the weekends fri-sun evening so if you would like a realxing time, in our opinion, dont bother, unlikely that you will find any games to play including slots and unless you want to play 5-15-25 dollars a hand on card games you can forget that too. there were times that there were empty tables and we asked if they could change the denomination of bet to $5 adn once they did it and the table filled up instantly, since then they have never done it, en=ven if the tabel sits empty. Give people that want to game and injoy it a break, we know that you want our money adn we wnat to give it to you, but at least let us enjoy doing it. break the mold and put in a $1.00 ince in a while to let people who are unsure of gaming tables play while they are learning ( yes I know the house wont make as much per hand) not the point. enough about that. In vegas uou can go to theold downtown and still find dollar craps etc. so again, deicde if this is for you.
they have entertainment adn the v lounge is a decent place to kick back at times when there is live music, you can also order food there if you would like which is convienient. they should really provide the perfornmers here a better venue, better lighting, with out the TV screens next to them showing commercials etc. Some are really good and deserve better and the casino would be better served by showing that they give a thought to their patrons that come to see live music here. Again lounges in vegas are set up differently, and yes this is not vegas, but making the changes to compete, small in comparision to the payoff.
We will see if we are able to get a room when the hotel opens to review that, it will be interesting. I am assuming that if we wait for it to be comped it will be quite a while since I am sure there is a waiting list a mile long already.
until then...travel happy, and decide for yourself if you are willing to settle for somehting closer than vegas.
will we be back, sure, will it be during the weekend, no. Also remember just like the rest of the casinos in the area they aslo have busses that drop off many people at times adn that can also make it busy. the clientele varies here from those in three piece suits to tweakers wandering the casino looking for who knows what.

Thank you so much! Your thoughts and comments are always greatly appreciated! Using guest feedback to proactively enhance our guests' experience is a top priority for us at Viejas––as evidenced by the many examples of change you have noted. Perhaps our biggest––and most exciting––change yet is just around the corner: The opening of our new hotel, which is slated for next spring.

And since a lot of your feedback focused on our dining venues, I also wanted to mention a really great promotion that's happening in November: Wine and Dine at The Buffet at Viejas. For the month of November, we are offering not only endless gourmet selections, but unlimited beer, wine and champagne––all at no extra charge! Also, a very talented Executive Chef has just joined the Viejas team and we are all very excited to taste his new creations. We hope to see you out here soon!
