My friend and I had the seven course gourmet dinner ($85 each) and worth every penny. We sat at the sushi bar so we could watch the master prepare each offering. Deliciously fresh fish and incredible sauces. First visit and certainly not my last.

We decided to give this highly rated Japanese restaurant a try. It is located in a strip mall, has 10 small tables and a sushi bar area, and appears to be operated entirely by a family. The lighting was low, and decor has an orental flavor. The menu did not have the typical pictures of the dishes and did not have the staples like teriyaki; which were fine by us We ordered several shashimi, rolls and chef's special dishes. The food was excellent, with the fish very fresh. The squid tempura was lightly fried, and not salty at all. This is a good benchmark for us when we dine out. We arrived on a Saturday evening around 6:15 and it was not too croweded. Yet after we ordered, it took a little while for the food to arrive. They noticed it and gave us a complimentary dish, which was a pleasant surprise. The staff were very friendly but could be more attentive as requests for water and tea were forgotten. If not for that blemish, we would have given Bistro Anju 5 stars.

This restaurant offers the highest quality of sushi in the area. Best sushi I had outside Japan. Highly recommended.

Hands down, best sushi around. Small place with great customer service. They are in the small strip mall behind El Pollo Loco on Aliso Viejo Pkwy and Pacific Park. We even took our small children there for an early dinner and they were so accommodating for little ones.
