Based on the recommendation of a friend, we planned a camping trip around dinner at the Albion River Inn. Even in jeans and nice shirts, we were not under-dressed. With an early reservation (5:30) we were able to get a window table with a beautiful view of the fog draped coast and the lovely gardens. An extra bonus - the same wonderful waitress we'd had at Cafe Beaujolais the day before - this is her night job - and made us feel right at home. Wonderful chicken marsala and the most incredible grilled prawns in a lime and cilantro sauce. Probably one of the best dishes I've ever had. Top it off with the honey tangerine cheese cake and you couldn't ask for a better birthday dinner!

We stopped for dessert and cocktail - next time will have dinner too! The energy and friendliness of the staff made this the perfect close to our evening. The bartender, Laurie, was welcoming and friendly and so knowledgeable - suggesting a perfect Scotch to go with our dessert - which was a fabulous lemon blackberry tart. Cozy, romantic, warm and friendly - made us feel like old friends.

Great views if you are able to snag a table buy the windows... otherwise you will be stuck in a very dark dining room.

Table service is okay but the hostess and the employee that handles reservations (I'd assume it is a hostess, but it was hard to tell) could definitely use additional training on phone etiquette. When I called to make a reservation a month in advance not only did she sound annoyed that I called, but then tried to tell me to "call back later" and "no, you can't request a window-side table because we can't guarantee that the table before you will leave in time." That's great... that is why it is called a "request" and not a "guarantee."

When we arrived, we were told our table wasn't ready so we asked if we should have cocktails at the bar first, in which we were told "yes." Literally as we ordered our last drink the hostess came back "we are ready to seat you now." Seriously? Not to mention there was confusion when asked if we should close out or transfer our drinks (since they hadn't been made yet)... the bartender ended up telling us to wait for our drinks so we could close out at the bar. Such a mess...

As for the food, I remembered it being a lot better in the past, hence the reason bringing my guests to this particular spot 3 hours away from home... underwhelming for the price would be a good way to describe it.

We ate dinner here and enjoyed a nice salad, the halibut and a berry/lime tart for dessert, plus wine. Prices are a bit high but not really out of line for the location. Service was excellent. We are used to very fresh fish so altho the halibut was quite good, it was not as fresh as what we are used to. But not significantly so, just a tad below perfect. All in all, a fine meal in a beautiful setting.
