“Wonderful dinner!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2013

We had a wonderful dining experience at the Albion Inn. The menu was varied with many entrees to choose from. The wine list was more than adequate, but my husband's favorite was the choice of scotch and the flights offered. Four scotches were offered in a flight. The ocean view was spectacular, especially at sunset. We were treating some folks to dinner and none of us was disappointed in our experience. Go and enjoy!

Exceptional food, ambiance, service. Terrific views. Excellent choice for the area...arguably the best choice. Accommodated us at the last minute. Very gracious.

“Breathtaking ocean views and great food.”

My wife and I have celebrated anniversaries and special occasions here many times. The restaurant sits atop a bluff providing spectacular ocean views and sunsets. The food is good and the service is attentive.

“Excellent From Start to Finish”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

From the moment we were seated for dinner at the Albion River Inn until the moment we walked out the door, everything was top notch.

Our waitress, Mercedes, began the service by assisting us with a wine selection. We told her we were thinking we wanted a medium white wine to accompany the seafood first courses we were considering and that we may want to move on to a red later in the meal. Mercedes suggested we order a half bottle of Frank Family Chardonnay and then decide later on another wine. The Inn stocks quite a few half bottles, so this decision came quite easily. Soon, we were enjoying chardonnay with the seafood chowder and the steamed shellfish. Both those dishes were made with the freshest seafood and had incredible flavor. The steamed shellfish came in a basil cream sauce while the seafood chowder contained PEI mussels, clams, shrimp, and a little fresh fish.

A pleasant surprise came during this first couse when one of the assistant waiters/busboys stopped by our table to discuss our wine selection. He had just as much knowledge of the wine list as our waitress!

Our main courses were the grilled king salmon and the cod with proscuitto. The salmon was easily the best salmon I've ever tasted and the cod dish had a multitude of flavors that were perfectly balanced. Both pieces of fish were of the highest quality and were cooked to perfection.
Prior to bringing our main courses, Mercedes assisted us with choosing a half bottle of Navarro Vineyards pinot noir. The light-medium red wine went quite well with both dishes.

After two quite filling courses, we decided to just split a creme brulee for dessert. The creme brulee very good and was a perfect capstone to dinner.

A couple tips. The Inn has a large selection of scotches for those of you enjoy a post dinner drink and, if you happen to find a bottle of wine you like at one of the local wineries, the Inn charges a $15 corkage fee for BYOB.

“Great View, but...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

....the noise level took away the romance. We had not been to Mendocino for years, but had fond memories of the Albion River Inn (restaurant and inn). We opted to stay elsewhere this time, just to try someplace new, but wanted to make sure we went back to Albion River Inn for dinner as we loved it last time. We were not able to get a window seat but got a nice place in front of the fireplace. Unfortunately we had a large table of folks next to us that we're very loud (laughter, talking, etc), so much so it was hard to hear each other. In fact we noticed the restaurant in general was quite loud. Maybe it was where we were sitting, maybe it was the big table of folks next to us, or that it was a Saturday night, but it really took away from our experience. Also, the food was good, but not anything special or surprising (which is what we remembered it being last time). Last, our waitress did her best, she was friendly and professional, but she seemed to be overloaded (big table again) and kept apologizing for taking a bit of time to get to us between courses, with our wine, bill, etc. I would not tell someone not to go to this restaurant, but I would tell them to avoid a weekend night and/or ask for a window seat, far from the bar. ...and cross your fingers for no big groups near you.
