Breakfast was always good (except for the day they had no meat, just hash). :-)
The evening meal on Wednesday is a great idea.
The staff was friendly, including the room cleaning crew.
Needs a pool.

Conveniently situated for Alameda, Oakland and San Francisco. Buses to SF run past the door, or alternatively use the ferry to cross the Bay - wonderful views!
Suites clean, spacious, comfortable beds, plus fridge, microwave and coffee maker, iron and iron board, sofa, dining table and chairs. Plates and cutlery are not supplied! Good selection of hot and cold food at breakfast. Rooms at front of hotel facing Webster can be noisy in spite of triple glazing.
Within walking distance of Crab Cove and Crown Memorial State Beach. Several excellent restaurants nearby. Short bus ride or drive to the Towne Centre shops.
Can recommend Hawthorn Suites for both business and pleasure visits to the Bay area.

Clean, comfortable room; friendly and helpful staff; complimentary hot breakfast every morning; ample parking; nice newer hotel close to San Fran and Oakland. Good restaurant across street and fast food joints within walking distance.

While the location and staff are great there are some problems. The rooms are not sound proof and if you are not willing to listening to traffic ask for a room overlooking the parking lot. The traffic noise in the ground floor I had the first night on the main drag was so bad that I asked to be moved. The next day I was moved to a room with a no-smoking sign on the doorway but smelled like an ash tray. It is also time for the management to pony up for some new pillows as both rooms’ pillows were very lumpy.

Thank you for your comments.

We have just installed sound-proof windows with laminated glass, in addition to the existing windows, in all our suites facing the street. Some of our regular guests are complimenting us for making this improvement.

Our staff is also working harder to enforce our policy regarding non-smoking rooms.

The rooms were nice and the hotel was clean but the staff is not helpful nor friendly! They seemed to be inconvenienced each time we had a question or concern. They also did not have a clue about transportation options unless you had your own car.

We went to see the Giants and the Raiders as well as see the sights, but this location is NOT close to anything and public transportation doesn't run late. The entire Alameda area closes at 10:00 pm 7 days a week so no night life for us!!

We stayed one night at the Hawthorn Suites in Alameda. I wasn't sure what to expect because it was so inexpensive ($94/night for two room suite), but it was very pleasant. I think all the rooms are real suites with two separate rooms that are separated by a short hallway--no doors. We had a bed and TV in one room and a couch, table, and TV in the other room. The bed was comfortable, and it was clean and quiet. The decor is a bit dated, but it's not bad. There was a decent exercise room and a basic breakfast that was included in the price.

We stayed 9 nights recently at the Hawthorn Suites with a 9yr old and a baby.
We found it to be clean and the staff friendly and always helpful.
The room rate includes free parking, wi-fi, gym, spa and buffet breakfast. The buffet breakfast had a good choice of hot and cold items and on the Wednesday night we enjoyed a complimentry Chinese buffet for dinner as well, which was a nice suprise.
Close to the bus stop to surruonding areas and to the Bart for travel into and from San Francisco. However, I would not recommend doing this at night. We had a very scary trip from the city after dark while waiting for the bus at Oakland. This in no way is the fault of the hotel, it's just the area of Oakland at night. We learned quickly not to be caught out like that again. We caught the ferry home during the day once and that was nice, but it's a bus ride as away as well.
The computer in the lobby with a printer was really helpful to plan our trips in the car around the local area and beyond.
Overall, I would highly recommend The Hawthorn Suites.
