“Horribly dirty”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2014

We stayed at the Marina Village inn in January. The location is lovely. Our room was very smelly. It was a rank combination of urine and old cigarettes. The rug is so old and so filthy, I would not walk on it in my bare feet. I was not convinced it had been cleaned since the last occupants left, we found a dirty face cloth and toilet paper on the bathroom floor and price tags that had been removed from clothing on the night stand. I was so nervous that the bed hadn't been changed I slept in fully clothed with a hood on my head. It was not what I would call a positive experience in any manner.

The hotel is dated. There was a bottle cap on the floor. The comforter was all rumpled. The heater didn't work. The price is quite a bit ($189) for what you get. I emailed them to ask for a copy of my receipt and never got a response. The view is amazing-right on the marina-but unless it's a beautiful day and you don't have to go in your room....I wouldn't recommend it. Choices were limited due to a convention in Oakland and it was this or the Comfort Inn off Hegenberger...Yikes!

If you want tranquility by the Estuary, this is a great location next to Oakland Yacht Club. I've known this place since the late 1980s... the Inn is painted every few years, but otherwise hasn't had a facelift in decades and shows it. The location is quiet, off the beaten path yet convenient if you have a rental car; its a fair hike to the bus line. There is nothing within walking distance, really... you need a car for this location. Extended Stay America offers a nearly new property in a similar location with better aesthetics and a lower price; consequently, Marina Village Inn is never full or nearly full, there's usually just a few cars in the lot. Unfortunately, even when confronted with the reality of their aging property, lack of amenities and high prices, Management are flat-out pricks to deal with. They will either not answer the phone, not return calls, or just be short and rude when you finally reach them. There are no deals, don't ask. So, for less $ you can stay at the newer, nicer ESA just up the road, leaving pretty much zero reason to stay here. This is not a one-time experience with MVI Management; I spend every summer in Alameda and contacted them in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013, with the same miserable experience every time. It's a shame, because its a nice waterfront location on the Estuary walking path... but then again, so is ESA for 20% less.

Old and Tired. The only thing "king" about the King Suite was the bed.Way overpriced as it was nothing more than a mom and pop econoroom that happened to have loveseat and desk-that's a suite? Beautiful marina view from the balcony-the only redeeming factor.I'm being generous with the "average" rating. Great location but I'd look elsewhere. By the way the house phone didn't work and the continental breakfast was a few stale bagels and two jars of sugar frosted flakes.

Needed a one night motel stay in Alameda while celebrating a family birthday in Alameda. All the Chain Motels were booked so I took this one. The price was $129--In retrospect, WAAAY to high for the accommodations. The location was exquisite--adjacent to the Oakland Yacht Club facing the estuary. Once we found our room (no help from the surly front desk kid) we found a musty shabby room. A King bed dominated the room; crammed into the corner against the non working air conditioner was a worn and stained sofa bed. The pillows were shredded foam that felt like 10,000 lumps in grey tinged pillow cases. The bathroom was spotless but missing an entire set of towels. The phone was caked with other people's residue and the screen door hardly opened without brute force.
Breakfast (packaged bear claws and frozen bagels) was available--there were no cups or plates and no front desk help either. Helped myself to cups and plates from the open storage room and received an admonishment from the continued surly and lackadaisical front desk child. TV blasting added to the ambience (not). Owned by the family Patel, they need a lesson in adjusting to the tastes of the people they service. All in all a true rip off.

Room Tip: Book early at the Rodeway Inn or another known entity in Alameda. Room 105 has no air conditionin...

Marina Village Inn needs to really upgrade their rooms. Old everything in the rooms. It is located in a very nice area overlooking the water and boats. But the rooms our terrible for the price that they are asking. We stayed a couple of years ago and this time we picked another hotel which was less expensive and way nicer. We ran into a couple who recently stayed at the Marina Village and told us that they have not changed a thing. The place is still run down and they were very disappointed that they stayed there.
