“Deliciousness!”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

This did not disappoint. The ambiance is beautiful. We sat in their outdoor patio area that had been covered for winter. It was cozy, warm, and lovely; a scene straight from Sunset magazine. Our server was attentive, kind, and was nice enough to laugh at our jokes. Don't miss the shrimp and scallops with grits. Oh. My. GOSH! I wish I had eaten less of my delicious appetizer so that I had more room for this dish. Serving sizes were reasonable, even if the dishes were a little pricey, the were worth every penny! We had the dessert sampler platter, and the bread pudding was perfect. If I lived closer, I think I'd eat here often. A must!

“Delicious food, nice atmosphere and busy!”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

We purchased a couple Groupon certificates and waited to the last minute to use them for Cafe 14. We tried to make last minute reservations only to find that many others too waited to the last minute to take advantage of their certificates. We were told that we might be able to be seated at the bar, but to expect it to be crowded due to the many certificate users, but we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. The evening that we went to Cafe 14 was a typical Agoura Hills roaster, with temperatures near 100 degrees. We arrived at roughly 6PM and the bar was filled with the bar/waiting tables also filled. We waited about 10 minutes before the family in the bar/wait tables was seated. Our party of four took over the 3 small round tables in the bar area and ordered. The maitre'd was very accomodating and cordial, assuring us that we would be taken care of in the bar area despite all the restaurant reservations being filled. He was correct. Our waiter was excellent - offering us great recommendations on wine and entrees. We thoroughly enjoyeed the braised short ribs with a red wine reduction sauce - tender, moist and very flavorful! The shrimp and scallops were also expertly prepared with a tantilizing sauce. The New York steak was a wonderful cut, although slightly more cooked than we hoped, but still very tender and flavorful. All in all, delicious food, excellent wait staff, and great ambiance - we hope to get seated in the main dining room next time. One note on the bar/wait tables/seats - the area tends to be very warm due to the ceiling halogen spot lights. We assume the regular dining room seating was much cooler. Maybe it was due to the 100 degree temps outside? On a cooler day, the outside patio seating looked inviting also.

“Very good food & ambiance”
Reviewed July 28, 2012

We had superior food served elegantly accompanied by excellent wines! My wife and I loved the Friday night dining as the restaurant filled up by 7pm! (we arrived without reservations) Be sure to ask for Ariel if you get the chance. Perhaps the BEST young waitress we have ever encountered. She was extremely knowledgeable on food, wine and dessert choices. Follow her suggestions if you dare! They were excellent.

“Dinner Saturday”
Reviewed July 22, 2012

Just went last night for the first time. You'll need a reservation. We were surprised by how early it filled up. The cuisine is excellent and very well presented. The menu is a little short but you should be able to find something. Seating inside is cheek-by-jowl with your dining neighbors, not my favorite but on a cooler night the outside area looks less crowded. Service was excellent. Try the three-glass flight of red or white wine - good selection and quite a bargain.

“nickel and dimed”
Reviewed July 16, 2012

It really takes the edge off a nice evening when you find out that asking for "extra sauce" for the duck ends up in an additional $3 charge. Not much obviously but it's incredibly petty and left us very annoyed. Dinner itself was fine, but don't come here if you have anything else to do for the next several hours. After ordering, dinner didn't come for almost an hour. At the end of the meal, we ordered coffees; after 2nd refill, the waiter asked if we wanted dessert (which we thankfully didn't). Arrived at 6pm and ordered fairly promptly - dinner no appetizers and then coffees - left restaurant at 8:45pm... All in all, place was ok and bit pricey. There are better alternatives in the area and after the sauce charge, we won't be coming back.
