Great lunch. Had sausage plate. Strawberry cheesecake for dessert. Good value. Can also tour the winery.

For starters, GPS takes you to the vineyards out in the middle of nowhere, not to the retail shop and restaurant. When we called to get directions, the lady on the phone laughed and said that happens often. (maybe the owners need to work on correcting that little issue or post a warning on their website). When we made it to the location we found a quaint little place in a very scenic location. The grounds were beautiful and the restaurant was adorable. That is where the charm came to a screeching halt! We were the only patrons in the place, and the service was less that fantastic. Our food was extremely expensive for what we ordered and the food was not very good at all. One server made my sister ill because she was cleaning with a soap bucket near where we were seated, and complained about how gross it was while we were eating. Another server was eating in our site, while he was preparing foods in the kitchen. The server who was actually responsible for our table was sweet, and did keep our drinks filled. Now for the worst part...the wine. If you can call it that. It was the worst stuff I have ever had. More like rubbing alcohol with a flavoring added. Needless to say, we will not be returning anytime soon. $100 dollar tab for 3 women for lunch, inedible food, horrible service, and getting lost, all made for a pretty big let down.

The Wiederkehr family has operated this restaurant on their vineyard property for a very long time. If you can take the tour about their wine operation and family history before your meal, preferably before lunch, you will have a better understanding of the dedication to get the Wiederkehr label wine to your table. When you do go, please try the Wiederkehr lable. There is a wine for every taste, dry, slightly dry to sweet. The Cynthiana wine is a nice slightly dry red. The Weinfest Wine is a delicate, sweet white, very fruity wine with some bubbles. Great for a spring or summer day. Very refreshing. The steaks are quite good served with Swiss roasted potatoes and a salad with their family house dressing. The house dressing is a tomato vinaigrette and very good. So, if you are travelling on I-40 and see the Altus, Arkansas sign take it and drive six miles up Champagne Drive. There are several vineyards along the way. A nice stop.

This isn't a place most people can afford to go on a regular basis, but it's a neat treat for a special time out. They have fondue that's fun but expensive. The food is good quality and the service is good. It's a very fun experience.

Nice atmosphere, however, our service was terrible. The place was relatively empty when we arrived (a Saturday afternoon), yet it took several minutes to be brought water and menus. We ordered two swiss onion soups and the sausage sampler as appetizers. For entree we ordered a Reuben, and the roasted chicken. Our soup came out quickly, and it was good, we then waited about 20 minutes for the sausage sampler and were certain our waitress had forgotten to put it in. As we were eating our sausage sampler, which was decent, two other tables of 2 and 3 were seated around us. We finished our sausage sampler, and then waited another 25 minutes for our main dish. During the time we waited, both tables that arrived after us were served their meals. Our waitress made no apologies for our long waits, and told us ours took longer because we ordered appetizers!
My reuben was good, but the potatoes that came with it were room temperature. My dining partner thought his green beans tasted old, and also did not like the potatoes, he said the chicken was okay. We would not go out of our way to eat here again.
