Meanwhile Back at the Ranch
Reviewed May 22, 2013

We got married here 19 years ago yesterday and it was a brilliant day in a fantastic location. The owners could not do enough for us and we all had a day to remember. Joy and her daughter helped us with the catering and some of the arrangements and organised the preacher. I have entered May 2013 as date of travel although it was actually May 1993 I just wanted to be able to submit this review

We stayed at the Rocking Horse Cabin of Meanwhile Back at the Ranch in early February. This B&B is located on what used to be a ranch and is now a homestead with 1 rental cabin. It is very hard to find, so pay attention to the map with your reservation.
The cabin itself is a simple western style, with all the comforts you could think of. Things like a touch activated nightlight by the bedside, lots of towels, bubble bath and logs for the fireplace made our stay very comfortable.
We went to Apache Junction to do some hiking in the Superstition Mts. Meanwhile...Ranch is backed right up to the Tonto National Forest and Lost Dutchman State Park. We walked out the gate and all the way to Flat Iron. Perfect for solitude and hikeing. If you are looking for dining out nad nightlife, this probably isn't the spot for you.
There is a small kitchen that has all the basics you need to do some cooking. Any spots to eat or shop are at least a 10 min drive.
Joy, the owner, was very welcoming and full of local knowledge.

Hello fellow adventurers, Joy, our inn keeper of this western B &B, is a warm and genuine caretaker. She is a retired rancher and still a cowgirl at heart. Her husband owed the first independent pharmacy in Apache Junction. Joy has several displays cases of old pharmacy stuff in the main house. Select the breakfast option so that it is delivered to you door at your scheduled time. Joy makes a breakfast basket that you can carry to one of the sitting areas and watch the sun hit the multi-colored mountains as you start your day. Gary and I hiked up to the "garage door" in shorts and no shirt for him and a jog bra for me-we need a vitamin D fix. Watch out for the cholla- teddy bear cactus. When we returned from our 4 hour hike, after a few run ins with these burr-like pieces of cactus, babies, we discovered that you need to bring a wide tooth comb for easy removal. If you are not a hiker, I still recommend staying here. The view of the Superstitions are spectacular. The energy I experienced during our stay was healing, you need to experience to believe it. We met another couple staying in the main house, who were from New York and we had an awesome time visiting with them and Joy around the camp fire on Saturday night. It just doesn't get better than this folks, Annette

Meanwhile Back at the Ranch is six acres of heaven tucked away in the sprawling metropolis of Greater Phoenix. Literally at the foot of the Superstition Mountains, we stayed in the Pioneer Cabin, a cozy studio which was the original "Feed Barn" when the ranch was built in the 1950's. Joy, the owner for 39 years, was just as sweet, welcoming and hospitable as you'd want a B & B owner to be.

There's not much in terms of restaurants nearby and so we brought food to make our own dinners. The kitchen appliances are old and small, so you can't get too ambitious, but everything is adequate to prepare a good meal.

There is a hiking path right behind the cabin and we saw lots of deer. The sunsets were simply gorgeous!

Joy prepares a lovely breakfast baskets and was very accommodating to our schedule and dietary restrictions (my husband has a gluten allergy). Before leaving, Joy gave us a tour of the main house and told us some of the history of the ranch.

This is the perfect spot if you're looking for quiet, relaxation and beauty.
