We stayed at this hotel on a Saturday night at the end of July. The location isn't the greatest since it's a few miles from the city center. Check-in was easy and quick, but I was disappointed when the lady told me that parking in the lot was $17 at this hotel! There is absolutely NO NEED to charge for parking in this area/location, it's clearly just to rip off the customers staying at the hotel. The lady gave me a little paper permit to put inside my car. But as I walked through the lot, 1/2 the cars didn't have one. I can't imagine all of those people paid for parking. I won't tell you not to pay for parking and just park there, but I will say it didn't look like they will check for that, especially if you park in the rear by the Holiday Inn (my 2 cents at least); but you can make your own decision.

The room was clean and tidy, but it was much smaller than I thought it would be. The hotel wasn't what I thought it would be in general (after having stayed at other Marriott properties like Courtyard). The wireless internet was easy to connect to and worked fine in my room. We didn't eat the complimentary breakfast so I can't comment on that.

In my opinion, the hotel was just an okay, average place to stay in DC if you can get it cheap. It's not close to all the sights or nightlife areas, so be prepared to drive places.

Stayed here two nights and everything was excellent except the shuttle service which was lacking due to one of the shuttles being broken. In a great location 10mins away from Union Station and the National Mall. Small pool and hot tub.

My wife and I and 2 children ( ages 10 & 12) stayed there this past week. The hotel staff was great (all of them), The rooms were clean and did not smell. The shuttle buses that runs every half hour between Fairfield and the Holiday Inn ( 2 buses) were on time. The drivers were very knowledgable and very polite! The only bad thing that I would have to say about the experience was the............................waffle batter (yuck)!! It seems ike every Marriot hotel has the same batter. They need to change it desperately!!

Overall......it was great and I would go back again!!!

Room Tip: Get the 2nd floor (laundary, pool and fitness)

Staff is accommodating, friendly and makes an effort to ensure guests are comfortable and feel safe. The neighborhood is sketchy at best, so do not count on walking around outside. Our room was spacious and clean-comfy beds. The property is not near a Metro station, so a free shuttle is provided which takes guests to Union Station. The shuttle fills up, so be sure to make reservations at the desk to keep your space. The breakfast has healthy options-fresh fruit, non-fat milk, healthy dry cereals, hard boiled eggs. The fitness center is limited, but adequate with ellipticals, treadmills, one bike, and free weights. The property appears to have a contract with Amtrak or a local train company because these loud employees dominated the breakfast area and lobby every day we were there, which was a minor annoyance. Keeping the above in mind, we would return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from busy New York Avenue

We were staying at a very busy time (we were told the city was actually "sold out" ) and were having trouble finding a reasonably priced hotel - we eventually found this gem - we read the reviews and were quite hesitant about the area but figured as long as we could get a shuttle to Union Station, and given we were only there for 2 nights then we should be fine! We would not hesitate to stay here again!!!!

The staff were absolutely delightful - the one big grumble (as others had mentioned) was the shuttle bus - but having said that the staff's attitude was super with a "how can we fix this for you" attitude - we found the shuttle to be very unreliable we were actually waiting in the lobby when we saw it "fly" by - but within minutes they had organised a private car to take us to Union Station - you just could not fault their service and attitude which made all the difference to our stay!

The rooms were very clean and quite spacious and the beds very comfortable, with Housekeeping prompt and efficient. The complimentary breakfast, whilst not a lot of choice was certainly more than adequate. Whilst staying there they also had a complimentary dinner - no choice and not replenished but was great (and appreciated) for free!!!!

After booking the room on KAYAK and then reading reviews I was uncertain of neighborhood. Our stay proved any uncertainties wrong. Well for our needs the shuttle served us well hourly in AM and evening to pick up at Union Station. We never left the motel area unles by shuttle avoiding the less than desirable neighborhoods. We did note there is a chicken place, McDonalds, gas station little store with ATM, close by. Holiday Inn and Mariott share their shuttles so technically the shuttle runs every 1/2 hr in prime times. The drivers and the on duty manager was always close at hand and even down to union station to assist with larger loads of riders by driving extra van. Just make sure you reserve your spot the day before to secure a specific time to leave motel.. Breakfast was fine. There was always fresh coffee in area , tasty at night on returning from a long day of sight seeing. An added feature was free dinner on weekdays m-th5-7. Marcus was always there in the eating area to assist us in any way possible. He is a superb employee to be commended!! Front desk were very efficient and helpful, on check in made sure we understood about parking, shuttle, food service, etc. Speedy and polite and professional. Also we noted there were AMtrak drivers always around staying on the grounds and the local police plus security frequented the lobby so I felt very secure. No problems there. Pool area!!!extremely hot unable to ventialate unless doors were open....need to improve that aspect but area was clean and if towels were missing a quick call to desk and they arrived. Small pool but served needs of teenager evening swim.
Overall room was kept clean nightly. We would definetly use this facility again simply for the ease of getting around via shuttle and not having to drive. Once at Union Station we took the Metro subway or walked with no problems. We did venture out by car back highway 50 to exit 11...15min and found a nice area with stores and restaurants...just to have a relaxing evening away from the city.
Kudos to a nice facility... keep up the service. P.S> the owner was on the grounds one day and checked with us to verify the service was satisfactory..that was impressive plus during our stay all the employees looked like they were hard working and enjoyed their jobs. Now adays that is very unusual.

The room on arrival was clean, but NO ONe cleaned the room the next day? AT 6:30 pm when we returned I called the deck to find out why?? No real answer. AT 8 pm STILL no one cleaned the room. A maintance man came and broungt towels and sheets. The desk clerk said shesent up sheets so I could make the bed! The shuttle only goes to UNION STATION not the Mall area as i ws told when I made the reservation. And the paick up times are never the same! Also sometimes the Holiday Inn bus comes to pick up passengers but the Fairfiled does not tell you this and so it's easy to miss your ride and wait another hour! The room was kinda pretty, but small. The breakfast is MOTEL 6 style and the staff emptys the garbage right while quests are eating. It is crouded and dangerous around the waffel Iron. Poor SELECTION. Nasty boiled eggs....bacteria waiting to happen. Oh, pool out of order so you have to go next door to use HI pool. NO PRINTERS for busines center and the center is in the middle of the lobby so NO privacy. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL>>>>IT IS NOT MARRIOT QUALITY if I was Marroitt I would remove my name. In addition, the front desk clerk cannot provide correct directions from the MALL AREA to the hotel. She had us lost for over an hour. And SHE was craby about helping. Also difficult to understand on the telephone. I would NOT stay here again. The hotel has been decorated nicely, but that's where the good comments end...Oh, they have parking on the hotel sight (no underground etc) byt they CHARGE you anyway.....CHEAP CHEAP HOTEL Websight makes it sound wonderful and when you call same thing, but try a different plece....LIke the HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS NEXT DOOR!
