“Easter Tea in the Peacock Alley”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2014

The overall experience for the Cherry Blossom High Teas was very good, but the service was a bit slow for $48 per person tea. The setting and décor was outstanding. This hotel is full of history and provides a great lobby to relax.

WOW. Service was fantastic. Free internet (though at $435 you bet internet should just be included), late check out were benefits from signing up for free frequent flyers program, so I may consider the loyalty programme with a cost depending on cost and benefits, as we are planning two week trip in Europe this summer.
My five year old mentioned it was my birthday. The hotel sent a bottle of wine to my room! When does that really happen?
I may try to stay here again on purpose. When does that happen?
There was a man hanging about the lobby who was with the hotel, but not the concierge. Maybe "Ambassador of fun" giving the kids puppets, the parents directions.
Cafe du Parc was great, with a reasonable and healthy kids menu. Staff was super friendly even with small kids and no snobby attitude about ordering tap water etc. like some high end hotels I've stayed in.
Location and History unbeatable.
My only two nits: no pool; house keeping great for day to day things (sheets, bathroom etc.) but well aged dust in crevices of furniture and base boards, sink apron...

Location to everything in DC is perfect - walking distance to museums, National Mall, White House and many restaurants. High Tea during Cherry Blossom festival was wonderful. Staff is friendly and very helpful. Our room was quite large with a comfortable sitting area. Clean and comfortable. Loved our stay here and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose a high room as it is in a busy urban area with street noise.

The Willard is a beautiful hotel that is at the centre of many things you might want to see in DC. White House just around the corner. The Mall and Smithonian museums a short walk away.

But it's the stories which are amazing. This is where Martin Luther King wrote his I Have a Dream speech. It's where Lincoln stayed in secret before assuming office. They say the word 'lobbying' originated here because of how people would visit Presidents who liked to spend time in the Willard lobby. Even today many high powered meetings are happening here. You never know who you might meet.

First of all, the rates on the weekend make staying in DC a great deal. We were blocks from the Smithsonian Museums and the National Mall. The Metro isn't far at Federal Triangle, and the White House is at the end of the block. There is great shopping right down the street.

The staff at check in was fabulous. They told us all about the hotel and answered all out questions. We stayed enough nights with InterContinental to get free internet. That was our one concern.

Room was clean and large. Hotel was beautiful. Maid service was quick and convenient. We didn't eat in the hotel, but it is close to lots of less expensive places to dine.

We loved it! The beauty, the history, the convenience, the staff - don't question your choice to stay here.

Room Tip: Higher up have better views.

Thank you for choosing to stay at the Willard InterContinental. I am happy you found our location to be convenient. You can receive free internet for any stay in any IHG hotel no matter the number of nights as a IHG Rewards Member. I truly look forward to sharing your kind comments about our maid service with that team as often they our stars in the back scenes and are not recognized. On behalf of the entire staff, i am delighted you enjoyed the city and the hotel. Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We hope to welcome you back in the near future. We also look forward to opening our InterContinental in Memphis in the near future.

We just got home from our visit to Washington DC. This hotel delivered on all aspects. First the lobby, ballrooms and guest rooms are beautiful, clean and comfortable. The location cannot be beat. The service was fantastic from the bellman, to the front desk, and the concierge. The on-property restaurants are excellent. The cafe du parc is nice place to grab a quick pastry and a coffee or a beer. Our dinner at the Occidental was romantic and delightful. The room service was prompt, and the food was really good. Close enough to walk to almost all downtown sites, and 2 blocks from the metro. We were able to get 2 queen beds in one room for our family. One added bonus was that we arrived on the red-eye fairly early in the morning. They were able give us a room for early check-in so we could catch a quick map before going out. I really impressed my family by choosing the Willard.

Company party in the ballrooms...food was delicious. Spent the night and the room was great. I really loved that there was a sitting area separate from the sleeping space. Very comfortable all around and the bed was incredible.

The 2 bars downstairs were fun and packed....people were having lots of fun...drinks were pricey as you can imagine. In the morning we wandered into the café for coffee and it was delicious as were the pastries and fresh fruit.

The Red Door Spa is on the 2nd floor and we walked by it a few times as was the fitness center.

Thank you for your positive feedback and for choosing to stay at the Willard. It’s nice to have a night out in the city every now and then and I am glad that we made it worthwhile. Banquet food is not just banquet food when prepared by a highly skilled team of culinary experts who pride themselves with each dish they send out of their kitchen. I may be partially biased, but do believe we have the best coffee and pastries in Washington. The spa is not to be missed next time...relaxation at its best. If we don't take care of ourselves, who will? Walking by the gym after a company party, completely understandable. We hope to welcome you back soon and enjoy the Spring.

Sincerely,

Patrick Birchall
