“Exceptional Service & Quality”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

We stayed at the Willard this past Christmas and had an excellent stay. The customer service was exceptional and the overall quality was great. While it's far from a value stay we felt it was worth paying the extra money for being a block away from the White House and so close to the museums. You should be prepared for the cost of parking ($40/day) and expensive drinks in their bar ($12/glass for wine). That said, if you're looking to treat yourself for some elegance this is a really good call in my opinion.

Room Tip: Be prepared for a lot of walking on your trip. Be sure to pack your walking shoes as well as your &q...

The Willard is beautiful and elegant. The front desk staff was extremely helpful and courtious. We checked in on December 29th, the front desk clerk's tag read "in training" yet he was very knowledgeable, helpful and courtious. He asked if it would be ok if we could wait 20 minutes to ensure that our room was clean and available, he read my concerned expression, as my husband and I wanted to get dinner before seeing a play at the National theatre and we were running late. Within a few minutes we had our room key. The room was spacious and clean. The pillows were fantastic. We ate dinner at the Occidental which was wonderful and the breakfast buffet at Cafe du Parc was incredible. Our only slight disappointment was after my husband had handed our parking valet ticket and a tip to a gentlemen someone else had asked, "where's tip?" my husband said he handed it to the gentlemen and they repeatedly asked "where's tip?" Other than that the hotel staff, dinning, accomodations were all exceptional.

I arrived to the Willard on Thursday evening 12/27 with my three teenage sons. We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights. Check in was a breeze, and we were off to our rooms. We stayed in rooms 727 and 729. I believe both were standard rooms but 727 was a good deal larger. The location is the best! We were able to walk almost everywhere we went. The doormen were very helpful with suggestions, calling a cab, offering us umbrellas on the rainy morning. Housekeeping was efficient with morning cleaning and evening turn down service. Breakfast buffet was extensive, and service was efficient. We had dinner one night at the Cafe my mussels were delicious and the fois gras was cooked to perfection. The lobby area was beautifully decorated for Christmas. It was a truly special visit.
*My only complaint would be the noise from the hallway. At times during the night you could hear other guest returning to their rooms. But it was not enough of a problem to keep me from returning to the hotel. It would be nice if people could learn to have courtesy, and respect other sleeping guest at 3:00am which is not fault of the hotel.

Room Tip: Higher floor away from the elevator are quieter. I prefer quiet over a view as our room was located...

Wow what a fabulous historical hotel with such a terrific staff. My wife and I had the most wonderful New Years eve 2012 stay ate the Willard. As a native Washingtonian I had never stayed at the Willard and boy was it a treat. Before we arrived, the staff, especially the reservation staff, the front desk staff (Ali and Sama) were outstanding. The front desk manager graciously upgraded our room to a wonderful suite with a memorable view of the monuments. My wife and I have stayed all over the world, but the Intercontinental Willard really was the most luxurious and delightfully fun hotel we have ever stayed in. The room, linnen, and bath suite were outstanding and a pleasure to use. holiday decorations in the lobby are as famous as the Round Robin bar. We met the nicest other couples both in the Round Robin bar and at Cafe du Parc at dinner. New Years 2013 is already penciled in for us in Washington at the Willard. KUDOs to the staff and manager.

I've been to this hotel during honeymoon, and everything was perfect! Our bedroom was directly in front of the Washington Monument, and only here you can sleep so close to White House! The location is so smart, and ever part of the hotel suggests you that the American history passed through these rooms.
If you want to have a tour of the city, this hotel is the perfect starting place because one of the stops of the CitySightseeing Tour is right out of the hotel! The staff was always very kind (expecially the Concierge!) and staying here was amazing! And if you wanna taste a real authentic italian cappuccino for breakfast, go to the Cafe du Parc in the hotel and enjoy it!

The Willard is an elegant and classic D.C. hotel. If you are planning on visiting the White House, Ellipse, Washington Monument and Smithsonian area, this is the best location. Our family spent the weekend here to celebrate the Christmas holiday season. We had a large upgraded suite with 2 queen beds. The hotel is superbly outfitted for the holidays and we posed for numerous pictures with their trees and decorations. They had carolers in the evening one night that were a pleasure to listen to. We had a great buffet breakfast at Cafe Du Parc and thought it was well priced and had a good variety. In room dining was prompt and the food arrived hot. We enjoyed their crab cakes, filet mignon and sun dried tomato pasta. They were all delicious. Overall, this was a great hotel and we will return again next year for our new annual holiday weekend at The Willard.

Excellent experience was marred by bummer afternoon tea. Like everything at this hotel, the tea is pricey - $94 for two of us. The tea comes in a small (two cup size) pot. I finished my pot when only halfway through the food. My last cup was very bitter, and I asked for another pot of tea. I was told I could have more hot water, but would be charged extra for another pot since there were still tea leaves left. I received about one more cup of water, and 15 minutes later it was still weak and flavorless. I talked to the hostess and received a fresh pot, but with a little lecture about "usual procedures". I can see charging for more of the skimpy sandwiches or stale desserts left over from Christmas, but it's TEA...how cheap to skimp on the tea. The atmosphere was lovely, as with every part of the hotel, but save your money for something better than the Afternoon (rationed) Tea. By the way, when we mentioned this disappointment at checkout, an adjustment was made on our bill by the uniformly outstanding front desk staff. We chose this hotel for several reasons: First, because our last two Christmases were very sad and we wanted the "Christmasiest" place possible. The Willard certainly met the bill there... Lovely and lavish decorations, Santa in the lobby on Christmas Day, a completely over-the-top Christmas brunch, a stocking on the room door (with cookies, nutcracker ornament, Christmas cracker, etc. Very cute...) 6 stars for holiday cheer! Second, because of location. Couldn't ask for better - read some reviews saying this is an office area that shuts down at night, but found plenty of restaurants and bars roaring with business, walking distance to almost all the main attractions. Third, for our first visit to DC, we wanted to stay somewhere distinctive, not the same chain decor we can find everywhere else. Saw loads of folks bringing out of towners into the hotel, just for the history. We reserved a Willard Room based on tips that they are all excellent corner rooms with great views. Not so....I had envisioned a postcard view, not a courtyard view, so we were offered an Executive suite for a very reasonable additional charge per night. Wow! Corner room with views of the Washington Monument, Ellipse and Nat'l Christmas tree, Lincoln Memorial, WW II memorial, all the way to Arlington. Two rooms, two baths, lovely period reproduction furniture, classic wallpaper and classy framed local scenes on wall...absolutely the way to go if you can. (Didn't see the oval suites, but imagine they would be faint-worthy) Service by bellmen, doormen, front desk, concierge, Cafe du Parc staff, was perfect - again 6 stars. They actually seemed to want to make the guests happy. Housekeeping, not so much - very spotty and inconsistent. Some days decorative bed pillows were left on the floor where we put them, some days back on the bed. Some days toiletries were replaced, some days not. Had to beg for more coffee and tea (controlled by the Afternoon tea people perhaps???) The phones have an "Anything" button - and were always greeted by name when the phone was answered. Package including breakfast was an outstanding value - enjoyed Cafe du Parc food and service very much. Despite the minor "cons" we would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Room 900, Executive suite, was outstanding. Quiet, roomy, comfortable and fabulous views.
