The Willard Intercontinental is a very nice hotel with probably the best location in Washington DC, just steps from the White House, Ford's Theater, and the National Mall. The are few hotels in the country or perhaps the world with a deeper history. The most impressive part of our stay was the friendliness of the people at the reception desk ... bright, cheerful and helpful. The surley bellmen have lot to learn from them. Our room was large and bright, well-appointed and quiet. The beds were comfortable and the blinds kept the room dark helping us sleep in. After staying at an Hyatt-Andaz Hotel recently, though, I expect more from a $400 per room-night hotel. The charges for internet access and mini-bar are dinosaurs that I no longer expect or accept from a hotel whose rates are stratospherical ....especially as a Priority Club Plastinum member.

Room Tip: The hotel is built so that a large percentage of the rooms have a view of the Lincoln Memorial and/o...

I attended a gala dinner in January. From the moment you arrive , until the time you must depart, always the best service.
The rooms are as modern as they can for a property constrained by history. I was not pleased to have to pay for internet.
The dinner was for 150 people, and the quality was as good as any restaurant in town. The staff is very helpful and freindly

History everywhere in this important landmark property. The foyer is elegant with columns and marbles, and takes you back in time. My daughter's wedding shower was held here. Every aspect was handled impeccably by the event staff. It was a BEAUTIFUL event, from what I hear, as the men were not invited. Our room was quiet and comfortable with comfortable bedding.
All the ancillary staff were accommodating and professional, some having worked there over 25 years.
Be good to yourself, and book The Willard.

Rate was ~$400/night and I feel at most it bought me the best location in town. 2 blocks from the White House, 2 blocks from the Smithsonian, 2 blocks from Metro Center Station and an easy walk from just about any of the big sights in DC. I signed on for the package with breakfast included (about $13 higher than the regular rate) and felt this was a great deal - delicious buffet breakfast daily or you could order off the menu. Internet at $10.95/24 hrs. was insulting, given what I paid to be in the room. The room was comfortable, but not super luxe.

I did not stay at this hotel, I just went to afternoon tea at Peacock Alley in the lobby of the hotel.

The service was amazing, the food was great, beautifully presented and the atmosphere was very nice. The live harp music was just a lovely accompaniment to the afternoon. The house blend tea is a wonderful Indian black base tea with fruit tones.

Perhaps the side lobby is a bit small and I have seen where others don't care for it being open to the lobby but while I was there, the lobby was not very busy or loud and I was seated off in a corner, anyway.

Traffic delayed me and my daughter as I was taking her to this hotel for a reception. She called the hotel to try to let the event organizer know what was happening, and a hotel staffer asked her coldly, "so what do you propose I do to locate this person?" She did eventually get through to someone who tracked down the organizer, but it was a struggle. When we got there, a CD case fell out of the car as my daughter got out. The parking / valet staff was rushing us, either to let them take the car for valet parking or to leave, as I searched for the missing CD and finally left without it. When i returned to pick her up, two staffers were standing in the pull-in lane conversing, blocking it. I had to sit in a traffic lane to let my daugher into the car. When i phoned in later to complain, the person who answered told me no manager was available to take my call. This is NOT five-star service!

I just got back from a 3 day excursion to DC. This Hotel delivered on every level and then some. The service was impeccable. (Oldstyle with class) The rooms were renovated and modern, with a touch of old world charm. I would not want to stay anywhere else in DC.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are suites
