“Beautiful with great service”
Reviewed January 25, 2014

Stayed here for a few nights as part of a four-week east coast holiday and loved it. Bang opposite The White House so very convenient for tourists - we walked everywhere. A lovely hotel that combines old-school graciousness, comfort charm with modern amenities and an outstanding service ethic. We would happily stay there again. Not cheap (breakfast is expensive but was included in our rate) but worth it in my opinion.

My daughter and I spent the week of Dec. 7-14th at the Hays Adam Hotel. The moment we stepped from our taxi, we were treated so special. It was especially nice each time you entered or exited the hotel to be greeted by your name. The hotel was very busy with many, many Christmas parties (very large corporate parties) and weddings, but at no time did the staff seem overwhelmed. The staff is like no other - very friendly and welcoming. Every staff member was so attentive and take the time to know you. From doormen, greeters, reservations, concierge desk, Lafayette Dining room, Off the Record, Housekeeping, Computer Room - everyone was so friendly and very helpful in making our stay so memorable. We felt we had an extended family while staying there .Our room was beautiful and the view fantastic. Management is to be commended - since much of the staff have been with the hotel for years - .that alone speaks a thousand words. Susan and I want to return again very soon. Thank You Hay Adams for making our time together so fantastic. Vi Montgomery.

Room Tip: Stay on the H side to get a view of the White House and the beautiful Lafayette Square,

Good location can't get better than that. Over priced unless u get a room with a view. Staff was average. Probably will pick another location next time in the city. Seemed stuffy and high n mighty to me. And don't get me wrong I stay at high end places but still get a more homey feel

what a location, only steps away from the White House.. no wonder President Obama spent 2 weeks at The Hay-Adams prior to his inauguration, because Blair House was occupied.

We spent one night in a Lafayette Park View Junior Suite on the second floor with a nice view of the White House, which you have only in wintertime, when the trees don't have any leafs. The Junior Suite comprised a king bed and a not seperated sitting area that was equipped with a sofa bed, which was by the way very comfy. The bathroom was rather small, but considering the fact that this hotel had first opened in 1928, it was just fine. Housekeeping did a very good job, during turn down service when preparing my sofa bed. Overall Service was great and very attentive to details.

In-room dining was superb, one of the best I've ever eaten. I've ordered a Salade niçoise which was prepared by the original recipe and only with the best ingridients like fresh tuna, seared from the outside. The same goes for Breakfast, that was also delicious even when a little bit pricey.

All in all I couldn't identify any shortcomings, and can only recommend this storied hotel.

..call valet at least 10-15 minutes before you need your car if you have one parked in valet, since the parking garage is not on the premises, and traffic can be very heavy around The Hay-Adams.

Room Tip: choose a room/suite with unobstructed views of the White House

The Hay Adams Hotel, nothing compares. From the moment you arrive the staff makes you feel special. The rooms, the public spaces and the Off the Record Lounge are first class. The staff at the hotel is like no other. Everyone is a pleasure to speak with and takes the time to make sure you are taken care of.

Hospitality defined.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great but the rooms facing the White House are incredible

The Hay-Adams is truly a standout in the luxury hotel market in DC. Have stayed at every other 5 star there with the exception of the Jefferson, which I have trouble trying because it is 3 blocks further away from the Hay-Adams' perfect location. It not only has character, location, and charm, but the service and attention you receive is unparalleled in this town, from my experience. Rooms are luxurious and well maintained. Amenities are equally fantastic. I disagree with the other few comments that refurbishment is needed - the rooms are not 'modern', but if you want that, stay at the Park Hyatt/Capella, etc - rather the rooms are elegant, with great moldings and fixtures, and fit the character of the hotel and lobby. The rooms and public areas are in excellent condition (have stayed there 3 times in 3 different types of rooms, and comment applies to all). Definitely try to get a Lafayette Park or White House view room if possible, as you will be amazed every time you look out the window.

The food is also excellent, and the Lafayette and Off the Record could each stand on its own, but they are even better when staying here, as you don't have to travel far for great food and drink. Each member of staff goes above and beyond making your stay memorable.

Room Tip: One of the few places where paying more for a view is worth it in my opinion.

We had a wonderful stay from New Year's Day. The hotel was quiet compared to earlier visits, but this made it even more enjoyable. Everything at the Hay-Adams is first rate but it is the staff that is the stand-out factor - at all levels. They were wonderful, particularly when we couldn't fly out of Dulles and had to come back for an extra night. Great to be able to use the business centre at no charge and to have reliable free wifi throughout the hotel. The location is absurdly good.
