We recently spent 3 nights in this hotel on a trip from the UK for a 40th birthday. Delightfully we were upgraded to a suite on the Lafayette Park side of the hotel, which offers great views.
The hotel is well located for a large walking tour of the best sights in the city and you can easily stroll over to Penn Quarter/Chinatown, where there is greater variety of restaurants.
The rooms are extremely well appointed and very comfortable and with all the amenities that you would expect of a LHW hotel.
Staff were universally great and helpful.
Some good late evening drinking is possible in the Off the Record bar as well!

Not only are you located within walking distance to all the must see sites in D.C. but the personal service and greetings from all the staff members of this hotel made us feel as though we were staying in a family owned B&B. The room was perfect. We stayed on the 5th floor with a view of Lafayette Park. Since the trees were still bare, we also had a view of the White House. The room was a perfect size for 2 people. A very generous breakfast allowance at the Lafayette was included with our stay which we took advantage of every morning before a long day of site seeing. The breakfast menu was excellent and the service there too was amazing. Special thanks to Leah and Giovanni (I am not sure I spelled his name correct). I cannot say enough good things about this place and we will certainly plan to stay here the next time we are in D.C.

Room Tip: Room 506 - perfect size for 2 and if you go while the trees are still bare you have a nice view of t...

I revisited Hay-Adams in Washington D.C. this past week-end and once again found the property a delightful experience. Although the rooms are relatively small, they are quite comfortable and well appointed. The plumbing is good, the beds are firm, and the walls are effective at keeping the outside noise to a mimimum. I find the hotel's greatest assests to be it's prime location, across Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House (in fact, I saw the President attend Easter services at the church across the street from the hotel) and an exceptional staff. The hotel's restaurant is very good for breakfast, but better options outside the hotel for lunch and dinner. This hotel is a great value.

Room Tip: Request a room facing the White House on the 4th or 5th floors.

This hotel is a five star hotel in every way. From the doormen who are so helpful and friendly every day, the front desk, the concierge, room service and the wait staff at the restaurants. The hotel is really old, beautiful, very clean and well maintained and the location is excellent (right across the park from the White House). They pay attention to every detail at this hotel. We stayed there over Easter and there was a small Easter basket with a colored egg and a candy chicken in the basket. The housekeeping department also does an excellent job and they have a great attitude along with all of the other employees. I would highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel offers a wonderful location just north of the White House. The rooms are smaller and the floors creeky as this is an old building, but the staff provides first-class service. The hotel is beautiful and spotlessly clean. It is a pricey stay, but worth the splurge for a special occasion. One day we took the elevator to the top floor and enjoyed the views of the White House from the George Washington Room, it was the best view we had all week!

I travelled with two eleven-year-olds on an after-Christmas holiday trip. We stayed for five nights in room #414, overlooking St. John's Church. We loved the room (good-sized, pretty and spotless) and totally enjoyed our overall stay.

We paid about $400 per night (average) for the room and I found this to be a great value. It was part of a package which gave us free breakfast and free parking.

Breakfasts were perfect! We had room service the first morning. Afterwards, we ate in the Lafayette Room, which is so beautiful and elegant. The food was great and the service excellent. We were always greeted warmly (especially the kids) and the staff members were professional in the service aspect.

We used the concierge service to book a night tour and to advise me on a beauty salon nearby. Mark and his staff were very helpful.

The hotel could not be better located for walking around the city. We only took the car out (valet parking) to go out of the city center. Getting the car was quick and the guys were so polite.

We first booked for four nights, but enjoyed our stay so much, I asked for an extra night and we were able to get it (an extension of the package was possible).

The Hay-Adams will be my first choice when I go back to DC. I love its small size, its location, its beauty, its warm, professional staff and its wonderful food.

Thank you to the staff from me and both children!

From the moment you step into the lobby, you feel like you are part of the hotel's illustrious history. Our room was not huge, but well appointed and we got a good price for several nights. Be sure to visit the Off The Record Bar downstairs to see the walls of caricatures of historically important Washingtonians. The location across from the White House makes it very convenient and leads to a perfect location for being a tourist.
