“A gleaming example of hospitality done right.”
Reviewed February 25, 2013 via mobile

We (my wife, daughter, and myself) had the privilege to stay here for two nights while visiting family for a wedding. Being a person accustomed to large chain hotels, it was absolutely refreshing to have such refined accommodations for our stay. The staff is friendly and helpful, the building is classic and gorgeous, and the community (Dupont Circle) is aesthetic and inviting. I have to make reference to the hotel's manager, David, for his dedication to the hotel's culture of truly magnificent hospitality towards its guests. Well done. If you get the chance to meet David during your stay, be sure to say hello, as he is a really nice guy and genuinely cares about your experience. Oh, and if you have anything you need to accomplish during your stay, steer clear of the beds as they are extremely comfortable and will prevent you from ever leaving.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights on a long holiday weekend. We got a king-bed room.

The hotel is about a 12-15 minute walk from the Dupont Circle subway stop on a pleasant street. The lobby and public spaces were all rather clean and kept to the theme of the hotel which was a 1930s vibe (or 40s or 20s or something)...

The room we got was on the 2nd floor and had a sort of non-window made of non-transparent glass blocks that made the room extremely dark. I normally don't care about a view (especially in a hotel with only 8 floors), but this situation made the room like a cave. We switched rooms.

The second room we got was on the 5th floor and had a proper window. While the view was into an airshaft of sorts, it was still an improvement. If you want "outside-facing" rooms, you need to book a different type of room than we got (again, a king bed room).

The room comes with a kitchenette which would be nice for some guests I imagine. It had pots and pans etc., but no cutlery or glasses. The bathroom was nicely appointed, but cold (the shower is euro-style with a half-door exposing the showering person to the drafts). The bed was very comfortable.

Everyone working at the hotel was courteous, including the housekeepers who had to deal with the fact that they use the same elevators as the guests (and thus had a lot of waiting around to do as they switched between floors).

I'd recommend this hotel if you don't want to spend a lot of money and want a nice, clean, basic hotel that's not overly spartan.

Room Tip: You'll need to request an outside facing room; otherwise the room will be on the drearier side...

Hi Michael, thanks for posting a room tip! Our Grand Double/Doubles and our Grand Kings with Sofa Beds are all outside facing. Most of our Classic Doubles and Grand Double Doubles with Sofa Beds are as well....All of our rooms offer kitchenettes, complete with pots, pans, cutlery, plates, glasses and coffee mugs for our Keurig Coffee Makers (with complimentary K Cups). Our Tempurpedic beds are always very popular and provide an excellent night's sleep and are standard in each room. Hope to see you again soon!

We chose the Carlyle due to the reviews here on Trip Advisor and we're glad we did. The hotel is very art deco in a residential neighborhood and the staff was very accommodating. There was an issue with my online booking (I did it directly on hotel website) and after a long drive we were in no mood to haggle. They upgraded us to a suite (with a small kitchenette) which was very nice for the same price. The beds are Tempurpedic and are very comfortable. We geniunely slept like a baby! My only complaint was to find out they had some parking spots available to guests on the morning of checkout. They never offered or even asked if we needed parking.

Our family (husband and I, 2 teens) stayed at this property for 3 nights. We were supposed to be there for 4 nights, but our arrival night was overbooked. Unfortunately, we had to stay at another property (Carlyle Suites arranged) which was not of same quality. We were a bit crabby after an eight hour train ride and midnight arrival, but the staff handled things professionally and ultimately everything worked out to our satisfaction.

The neighborhood is terrific. It is a LONG walk (25 mins or so) from National Mall and sights but felt like we were experiencing DC living. Seventeenth street (around the corner) is where there is a CVS, Safeway Grocer and several great restaurants and shops.

The hotel is small and intimate ...has an art deco vibe. The buffet breakfast is great..coffee-milk
-juices-fruit-scrambled eggs-bacon-sausage-home fries-cereal-breads and the staff terrific. The bar is very nice and intimate-quality drafts and good martini.

Hotel room was great...2 double beds (tempurpedic) small bathroom and great kitchenette. Micro-fridge-plates-utensils-2 burner stove. We were able to have small breakfast and snacks and bottled waters, etc.

The staff was incredibly accommodating. Very professional, warm and always there for guests. I would absolutely stay here again in the future.

Thank you, Carlyle Suites staff for a great stay!!

This hotel is in a residential neighborhood about a mile and a half from the National Mall and Smithsonian museums. It's a number of blocks from the metro, but for folks who don't mind some walking, it's a nice distance from the busy-ness of the city while not being too far. When comparing prices, it was considerably cheaper than other hotels in the area, but then I heard that someone staying the same weekend found a comparable hotel through Hotwire for a third of what I paid for my room. Oh well, lesson learned. Still, this was a reasonably appointed room, small, but it had a mini fridge, microwave, kitchen stuff, a nice TV, memory foam bed. It was fairly clean but not spotless. The neighborhood was nice, quiet and residential, but just a few blocks from good shopping and restaurants.

This was the greeting we received from David and his staff when we entered the hotel each day! The rooms were clean and spacious and included a kitchenette. The breakfast was amazing and I utilized the workout location offsite and was pleased to have this service. Highly recommend this Hotel!

We booked a 2 double + sofabed for our family of 5 and it was spacious, clean, very comfortable, and even had a kitchenette. Nice bathroom products with a green focus. The hotel staff are fantastic. A phonecall brought extra towels within minutes. They even sent the very cheerful custodian up to lend a screw driver so my son could use his new toy. I have absolutely no complaints. This is a gem of a hotel, and reasonably priced. Excellent location too.

Room Tip: We had 802 which is a top floor corner room with a corner window which gives a view of the Washingto...
