“Clean and great location for White House & Monuments”
Reviewed April 6, 2011

Our room was a spacious king size room, quiet, very clean and comfortable bed and linens. We walked everywhere - to White House, Tidal Basin, all Monuments, Capitol, etc. It was a lot of walking, but pleasant and easy enough. We took metro back from Union Station to Farragut North, which was only a couple blocks from hotel. Only word of caution is that there's not much in the area as far as casual restuarants for breakfast other than Cosi or Starbucks. So, we ate at the hotel, which was very good and excellent service, but very expensive.

This is a descent hotel with good clean rooms . Bathroom a little small but ok. The only drawback was the reception staff who showed a " could not care "attitude. Also, on the day of arrival no conceirge was on deck. If you are going to use the gym, then be prepared to pay $15 for the privilege. The restuarant was not always open , you were directed to the bar where you could order food at an expensive cost.Central to most attractions and the tube station was 5 minutes walk.

Got this hotel from Hot Wire for $99, great price! Would have been upset if I paid rack rate of $400, since they had extra payments for everything. (50 cents/ hr in the business center, $15 for fitness center etc.etc. etc.) Other than that the hotel was great, centrally located, the White House, mall, museums, metro and many attractions were only blocks away. Very clean and comfortable too, all and all a great place. Parking was $42/ night so we went around the block to M street (PMI parking) for $20/ night, also went a couple of doors down K Street to Corse’s for breakfast ($6-7/ person instead of $20+/ person at hotel).

This hotel is in an amazing location and our room was twice the size of a standard hotel room. The rooms are well appointed with great beds and nice decor. The lobby is also quite nice. But the hallways look institutional and well below the standards of the rest of the hotel. The hallways (and to a lesser extent the lobby and rooms) have a musty smell. It is hard to believe that they just completed a massive renovation and it still has this musty old hotel smell. It seems that they didn't "go deep enough" in what they renovated and just did a cosmetic clean up.

The staff were very friendly. The hotel, howevevr, is very noisy and much of it is beyond the control of the hotel other than to spend a huge amount on soundproofing. Unfortunately, Washington's multiple police services love their sirens....there is hardly a minute when you don't hear a siren somewhere in the distance, or right outside your window. I guess they didn't read the story about The Boy Who Cried Wolf. You become immune to sirens when walking the city, but it sure is annoying throughout the night.

The hotel's Valet parking is stupidly expensive. If you drive one block towards the White House and turn right on I street, there is a public self park garage on the right with prices a fraction of the hotel's rates. It is safe and probably one of the places the valet puts the cars anyway.

On the down side, the hotel management don't understand how it works. They try to charge extra for wifi and then charge extra again for the fitness centre. That kind of cheapness is just annoying. We pay a good price for the room and expect to have access to the hotel's amenities (which are already paid for and don't cost extra to give to all hotel guests). Based on that issue alone, I would probably give another hotel a try. We stayed at the Palomar Kimptom last year and found that the management was much smarter....everything included and happy hour in the lobby with free wine and appetizers. The Capital Hilton just tries to squeeze you where the others don't.

Travel to DC on weekly basis and have stayed in 16 different Hilton Hotels in the DC area (Hiltons, Embassy Suites, Doubletrees, and Garden Inns - even 1 or 2 Hampton Inns) and the Capital Hilton is the best location, with the most comfortable beds of them all. Getting around DC can't be any easier than from the Blue Line of Macpherson Sq or Ferragaut West to the Red Line of Ferragaut North. The Executive Lounge is excellent and the rooms and staff are excellent.

Checked in today for a 3 night stay. Issue over booking when checking in, took ages with worried receptionists muttering about being full despite having a confirmed booking. Restaurant closed food available in the bar but it was freezing cold with icy blasts from the front doors. Internet access such a rip off paid for 24 hours only to find out the fee is per device not per room. Most hotels allow up to 3 devices for one fee. Not unreasonable to want to connect phone iPad and work laptop surely?

I am a regular worldwide business
traveller and come to DC every 3 months or so. Only staying here because my regular place (Donovan Hotel- highly recommended) is full. Thought this would make a nice change but very disappointing.

Rooms are clean and beds okay but no fridge, no mini bar, and whilst in good condition very old fashioned.

At $440 a night plus tax it doesn't make the grade.
