Booked through Orbitz at State Plaza Hotel, corner of 21st and E and Virginia.
Location: across from the West End of the Mall, short walk to Lincoln Memorial. Close to Foggy Bottom Metro station, just south of GW campus. Nice location.

Room: was very big. Had a very large room, eat in kitchen, and fairly large bathroom. Would probably pay triple price in NYC for lot worse room, so State Plaza was great deal for great room. Overall, the room and the hotel could use some freshening up by sanding down all the paint they had (eventually, each groove on the molding gets filled with paint). But no complaints. Lots of hot water, lots of water pressure, coffee machine worked, etc. Was very quiet as it wasn't in core downtown.

Internet: wireless was free, but it was a little slow.

Had 2 queen beds, which was nicer than having 2 double beds that you'd expect to find.

Food: Dunkin Donuts is a block away, though NOTE: it is closed on weekends. Starbucks is one block further down on E and open on weekends. CVS is right beside hotel as is a liquor store. Other than that, we ate elsewhere in DC.

Would I go back: Yes.

Dear Shazzman,

Thank you for taking the time to review the State Plaza Hotel. Having rooms large enough to fit two queen size beds is truly an asset that our Guest very much enjoy. We're glad that you felt our hotel is a great value as well. We apologize for the slow internet and we are working on improving the bandwidth so that we won't have these issues anymore. We will resolve this as soon as possible. Our greetings to you up north and we hope that we will see each other again.

Our room was spacious and clean. The services provided were minimal, but the staff was helpful. My only complaint was that there weren't many restaurants or shops nearby, it was extremely close to the State Department. I would stay here again.

Thank you for a very pleasant stay at the State Plaza Hotel. It was everything we expected, great location, (close to the metro, George Washington university, grocery stores, coffee shop, etc), and clean (great maid service!), charming (we love the history of buildings as well as the architecture) and we also made plenty of use of the quaint dressing room, charming kitchenette, and useful desk area. We recommend this hotel. Let’s not forget to mention the polite and accommodating employees who helped us locate a forgotten computer at the airport as well as the friendly bell clerks in particular Mr. Bekele Teferra.
Sincerely,
Helen and Jeff Moore

Room Tip: The only negative was the slow elevator. So if you are in a hurry, choose a room on the ground floor...

Booked a 1 bedroom suite as an upgrade which was excellent, we were a few in the party so having an actual living room with a dining table and kitchen were very useful. We lucked out with a newly renovated suite in north tower. We prepaid and experienced flight delays, although I called ahead to hold the room upon arrival we were told it wasn't ready and were given a king room. When I returned to the front desk to explain I pre-paid a suite, Juan at the front desk quickly took care of it. This gentleman is a definite asset and deserves employee of the year. Will definitely recommend this hotel for the convenience to the sites, GW campus, waterfront, variety of restaurants in the neighbourhood, etc.

This hotel had the cleanest bathroom I ever saw. All the carpets looked like new, and housekeeping did a great job every day. It would have been nice to have a microwave in the kitchen area, but we had a stove to cook on. Walking distance to almost everything. We didn't find any restaurants for breakfast so we made something in the kitchen before starting out for the day. Their restaurant is too expensive, only buffet in morning at 15.00 each. There is no menu in the morning for breakfast. There is TG Friday's on 21 st. for evening meal, which is excellent. There is also a convenience store right next door to hotel.

Room Tip: We were on the eighth floor and it was quiet.

The hotel is very plain. Minimal services. For example no ice machine. Ice is brought up in a bowl from the restaurant. There is a kitchen but no pots or utensils. They may be available if you ask. There rooms have either heat or A/C so if you are there in a transitional season the room may be uncomfortable. For us the room got hot and there was no A/C. The location is great for visiting students at George Washinton University and the Mall.

Dear Jmd49er,

Thank you or taking the time to write a review about the State Plaza Hotel. We do provide pots and pans upon request free of charge. Sorry for the inconvenience regarding the A/C. We got caught in a sudden temperature change but we had the cold air circulating just a day later. We're glad our location was convenient for your visit. We hope to see you again. Take care.

Stayed here on a 3-night trip to DC. Rooms are clean, not huge, but comfortable. Also has a kitchen, which we didn't end up needing, but nice option. Staff is very helpful. You can walk almost anywhere from this hotel. Lots of other people walking around. Very close to restaurants and stores. We walked to Lincoln Memorial and the White House, no problem. The area felt very safe.
