We really liked this place. They have a full kitchen in some of the apts., dining table in a dining area, living room, bath/shower combo 3 closets and all big rooms! Very nice staff and a restaurant on the site. A few blocks to walk to the metro but the Foggy Bottom location is safe being right in the college area and lots of restaurants within walking distance.

I stayed for two nights at the State Plaza Hotel (E Street side). My visit was in connection with an academic event on the adjacent GWU campus. The hotel was convenient to my event and to The Mall (especially the Lincoln memorial, Korean War Memorial, etc.). the suite I was in was like an apartment--huge living room, dining area, small kitchen (with a full refrigerator) and was very clean. the walls were pretty bare, however, and the furniture was spare and somewhat old-fashioned looking. So, despite the space, it was not uplifting to come back to my room.

I did enjoy the stay, however. The staff was really friendly and helpful. And all amenities were handy. (Although it's a good walk to a decent full-service restaurant, I love walking in DC and this was not an issue for me.)

I would tay again, but maybe bring some colorful tapestries for the walls to brighten my day . . . .

Room Tip: My room looked out at the State Department on one side and he Kennedy Center (in the distance) on an...

After a weeks stay at the State Plaza, these few observations. The rooms are a very nice size but need to be remodeled and updated. The beds are very comfortable, and the house-keeping is very attentive.

The bathrooms and kitchens are mostly functional but have not been changed in any significant way since the 1960's or 1970's. The drab grey carpeting needs to be replaced and the sagging floors need to be tended to.

On the upside: nice small gym, very good location, staff was mostly nice & responsive with a few minor mistakes. Bell staff was particularly helpful.

Overall and OK stay.

Dear Patrick C,

Thank you for spending a week with us. We're happy you found our beds comfortable and our housekeeping staff attentive to your needs. We're also glad you pointed out on things we need to improve on which is mostly updating our rooms. We are actually undergoing a floor by floor renovation and we already have finished a few rooms and I'm very excited to let you know that they look beautiful. I hope you'll have the opportunity to see them on your next visit should you decide to stay with us which we very much hope for. Take care.

Recently stayed for 3 nights on a work/family vacation trip with our tween son. Staff was very friendly and the room was serviceable and very clean. Everything has a slightly dated 50s/60s feel, which we enjoyed in a funky retro sort of way, though perhaps not to everyone's taste. Our first room was on the 8th floor near the elevators in the F St. building and we had to ask for a new room because the fan on the building roof was deafening--to the point of making our ears hurt and the pictures on the wall vibrate. Staff was very accommodating and we were perfectly comfortable on a lower level. Good location for access to the Mall. Metro is about a 10 minute walk. Breakfast buffet underwhelming for the price.

Room Tip: Avoid the 8th floor in the F St. building. Noise in room 832 from the air handler/fan on the roof wa...

Best value for money; rooms are clean and spacious with kitchen which is very convenient for families with picky eaters. Staff was very helpful. Adjacent to George Washington University and all sorts of little restaurants and pubs.

Room Tip: Avoid top floor; engineering room noise

Hotel room was ok. a little out dated.. because of the lime green bathroom.. This was a renovated government building so they just painted everything cream color & put in the bare essentials.. the beds were comfy & looked clean.. .. What was weird to us was the fact that I asked the staff if there were places to eat around there since we were with our 2 kids ( 8 & 5) & i need a place like fridays or a diner .. & no one around could tell me if there was one around.. how don't you know that? as we were leaving we saw a TGI F's 2 blocks up & a Whole Food's Market..
The buffet breakfast they offered was $15.00 p/p .. I was not going to pay $60. for 4 people to have a bagel & some eggs w/bacon..

Good points: Close to the museums & monuments.. we walked & it was an enjoyable one.

FYI -- if you are staying there .. don't go to china town with your kids at nite.. it's more a bar scene. if you want some eateries like TGI'F.. go up to 22 & H .. they are nice little shops & eateries in that area.. cab rides to the museums were about $10.00 --
