“Quiet area of DC.”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

In the Foggy Bottom section and only a few blocks to Metro, Buses, Whole Foods & Trader Joes. Walked to the Kennedy Center and the Marina in the Harbor.Have never enjoyed staying anyplace as much as this. Fresh coffee beans & grinder in kitchenette.Full size refrigerator.Very spacious rooms and really clean. Very comfortable beds. The staff was over the top with helping us. Thought it would be out of the way and it was not. There is not a lot of traffic in this quiet neighborhood. Will be going back sooner than I had planned.

OMG!! The friendliest place you have ever stayed. I would rate it higher if they would let me. Quiet. In a beautiful Nieghborhood. The staff is fantastic. You feel at home all the time. Don't think twice about staying here. Stayed for 6 nights and felt at home. Had grandchildren and my Mom. Can't say enough about our stay. When I come back, this is where I will stay. Don't miss this place. Best kept secret in DC!!!!!!!

I have stayed at this hotel dozens of times with the same great experience.

Kitchenette so you can make coffee first thing. They provide beans for the fresh ground favor. The rooms are always clean and I strongly recommend the suites for great livability. The bathrooms are spare but the living room with a pullout couch is priceless for having your college student crash away from the dorm for a night. The bar and restaurant are good and breakfast is real good. And the price is amazing for downtown DC, really!

Glmorrisiii thank you for your review; it's guests like you that make it possible for The River Inn to thrive and continue to provide the service you know and love. You're right, brewing fresh coffee from fresh coffee beans first thing in the morning starts the day off right and the flavor is so soothing. Having extra accommodations for your invited guests is always a bonus and lets you enjoy the comfort of your own bed. Our restaurant DISH+DRINKS is a favorite among locals, and as you mentioned, the breakfast is really good. Please come back again and again. However, this time please ask to meet the front office manager Michael. I would like to personally give you something special as a way of saying thank you for your loyal patronage.

I was not expecting the hotel to be on such a cute residential street of rowhouses. Nor did I expect the suite I had booked to be literally as big as a one bedroom apartment! It included a bedroom with king-size bed and flat screen TV, closet, dresser, two night stands (plenty of storage). There was a dressing area outside of bathroom. The living/dining room was large with a wall of windows and sectional sofa bed, flat screen TV, large desk, table and 3 chairs plus more and the décor was good. The kitchen was small and old but very clean. Bathroom likewise is old but clean and has some charm (marble floor, pedestal sink).
The employees were so friendly. Location is on GW campus, so not very close to tourist attractions (e.g. 0.9 miles to Lincoln memorial) but lively and only 5 minute walk to Metro stop. I loved being close to a certain large chain organic-food grocery store.
Best of all was the value. Just incredible, which is why I give this 5 stars. It's not a high-end luxury hotel but quite comfortable, spacious, clean, friendly, good location and really unexpected great value.

Room Tip: Go for a suite!
