“Very nice property and good location”
Reviewed November 10, 2011

Older historic building in quiet residential neighborhood near George Washington University. Very clean, comfortable room with nice kitchenette. Little worn around the edges (chipped furniture; a couple stains here and there) but it did not detract from the experience. Staff was very friendly and professional. Only a couple blocks from the Foggy Bottom Metro station and then just a short ride to all the main attractions. Whole Foods was also a short, convenient walk. Near the George Washington University Hospital so there were a few ambulance runs during our visit but it was not disruptive. Overall, very quiet. Would definitely stay here again.

About half an hour walk to the main sites of DC and over the bridge to Georgetown. Room was clean with all amenities. Restaurant open for all meals although we didn't use this as ate out and had out own kitchen. Friendly staff who willingly helped us get around etc. Very close to bus and train.

We look forward to your next visit to Washington D.C.

Awesome stay for the weekend. Had a room up on the fifth floor. Tons of room especially with the bedroom being separate from the kitchen and living room. The staff was awesome and very friendly....even told us that there were parking spots if we looked hard enough...(instead of charging us $35 for valet).

Location was great and a very short walk to the monuments. Right next to GW University.

The restaurant and bar was very nice and the bartender was the man.

Definitely one of the best hotels out there...HIGHLY Recommend.

I stayed here during a family vacation with my wife and 3 children October 6-11, 2011. We had a 1 bedroom suite with a separate living area and full kitchen. I was pleasantly surprised with the size of the suite and the comfort of the king bed. The kids loved the fold out couch and there was plenty of room for a rollaway bed. Great location near the Kennedy Center and Watergate. Short 3-4 minute walk to the Foggy Bottom Metro, and enjoyable 15 minute walk to the Lincoln Memorial along the Potomac. The room was not perfect (carpet loose in places, rust/moisture on sill in bathroom), but it was just right for our purposes.

Room Tip: Ask for a suite with a separate bedroom if you're traveling with kids.

Thank you for your feedback. It’s always a good thing to have plenty of space when staying at a hotel, especially when traveling with a family of five. We are delighted you found our hotel well suited to your needs and that you found the short walks to the sights enjoyable. Thank you and we hope your visit us again when you return to Washington DC.

The River Inn is located in a residential setting with on street parking, treed lined streets and brownstones with the front lawn filled with roses and halloween decorations. My wife, daugher and I booked 2 nights in a Potomac King size suite. Decided to book here because my daughter was racing in the Marine Corps. Marathon. This was her first marathon and I must say she did great. Ran it in 3 hours 36 minutes which now qualifies her for the Boston marathon. The hotel was in a great location for her to run the marathon. Metro only 5 minutes away, Rosslyn one stop and the Pentagon two stops. This is where the start and finish lines were. Georgetown only a 10 minute walk. Got to go to "M" street and stop in at Georgetown cupcakes. We were in room 706. separate king size bedroom with a huge living room/dining area with a very large widow overlooking the street. Full kitchen that was showing its age, but everything was in working order. We really only ate breakfast in with of couse some late night snacks. Trader Joes only an 8 minute walk. The street was quite with no traffic, As the title says, this is not your tipical city hotel. If you like Itallian food check out Primi Patti over on "I" street next to the Lombardi Hotel. Great Itallian food. If my daugther decides to run this marathon again next year (always last weekend in October) will stay here again.

Room Tip: just ask for a high floor

Please extend our congratulations to your daughter! 3 hours and 36 minutes is a great time, and just finishing the entire Marine Corps Marathon is indeed, something to be truly proud of. We love standing out from the pack, and are overjoyed you intend on returning next year in the event your daughter decides to run it again!

My 11 year old son and I spent a week at the River Inn in Washington DC and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel is not large, but very comfortable and the staff made us feel right at home. We had a large room with a pretty view over Foggy Bottom, a full kitchen and a seating area. The beds were very comfortable. The room rate was very reasonable for what we got, given the sky-high hotel prices in DC. Foggy Bottom is a lovely and peaceful neighborhood, but still quite convenient to everything. George Washington University and the metro station are just a quick stroll away. The Safeway at the Watergate complex 2 blocks south and a Trader Joe's a few blocks to the north made it easy to stock up on breakfast foods and snacks to make in our kitchen. There are a few good restaurant options in the neighborhood, and Georgetown is not far off (maybe a 15 minute walk). There is a small restaurant off the hotel lobby, but we did not eat there. For lunch or a quick dinner, Pork Belly Sandwiches at the edge of the GWU campus was a big hit. A 15 minute walk towards the mall brings you to the Lincoln memorial, where we visited every day. My son loved to lean against the columns on the portico and read his book while I watched the never-ending stream of visitors. There is no end of things to do in DC and returning to the River Inn at the end of a busy day of sight-seeing was like coming home.

Room Tip: The executive king rooms are spacious and comfortable.

We are very happy you and your son enjoyed your stay with us and are glad you found our rates to your satisfaction. We are also glad you found our little neighborhood charming as it is quiet, safe, and has a fascinating history about it. Safeway and Trader Joe’s are very convenient, especially when you have a full kitchen at your disposal. Thank you for the great review and we are pleased your visit to Washington DC was great. That said, there is still plenty of stuff to see, and we hope you let us be your home away from home during your next visit.
