We stayed at the Renaissance Washington DC Hotel for two nights in late June. Our niece was being married in a church nearby with the reception across the street from the hotel at the Carneige Library. The hotel was centrally located for what we needed within the city. We walked to the White House one evening and visited the National Portrait Gallery nearby too. The beds were a bit soft for my taste and the pillows were too. The bathroom door is a sliding one that doesn't close all the way (to make the bathroom clearly sealed off from the bedroom area). The sink was also in the bathroom rather than outside the toilet/shower area, allowing only one person to get ready at a time which was an issue when preparing for a wedding. The room doors also slammed if you didn't hold onto them - this was an issue in the mornings and late at night when guests in other rooms let their doors go. The crab soup via room service was awesome! The staff was also very professional and helpful. The lobby was well laid-out with many small gathering areas and a bar where the wedding's welcome reception for family was held.

In all honesty, there were highs and lows during my week long stay at the Renaissance in downtown DC. Highs: near Chinatown, close to lots of stores and restaurants, great bed, quiet hotel, modern decor. Lows: Starbucks line is ridiculously long with conference-goers, internet and wifi reception were just horrible - I couldn't get any service in my room, and most of the time what was offered in the lobby was just not worth the effort. It made things a little chaotic for me to get things done. Otherwise, I would stay here again, although I think their hotel restaurant leaves little to be desired. The bar is nice, but the drinks are about $2 too much for DC. I highly recommend ordering in food if you have a meeting or gathering in the lobby. We ordered sushi from a high-end spot in Dupont and had drinks in the lobby and that made for a perfect evening. Also, the staff were very nice.

We came for a Valentine's trip, and the timing was pretty bad- Washington sort of ground to a halt with the unfortunate snowfall it was hit with. We came in a day early, and had made reservations at the Renaissance for 3 nights through Priceline, we called to see if they would honor the rate for an extra night, but we were informed, No, that it would be around $100 more. We booked elsewhere for the first night, which was fine, but not a solid customer service decision.
The hotel was extremely busy when we checked in, there was a farm convention, and a grant writer networking meeting, wrapping up, and a high school volleyball conference just beginning. The staff was friendly enough, but not as warm, or helpful as I expect from a higher end hotel. I'll chalk that up to the census at the time of our stay.
The lobby is lovely, guests congregate in the seating areas at all times of the day and night. There is a lobby bar, and a sports bar/ restaurant open in the evening. There is a breakfast restaurant which has a good breakfast buffet option- complete with omelet station. We went there the morning we left. We were seated in the entry way, and after my chair was bumped by 4 patrons and 3 staff members before I had a coffee, I had to ask for a seat swap. I'm patient, but that's straight annoying. Hah.
The room was clean and modern, we had a great view of the George Washington library, and the Carnegie building. The bathroom had a great mural of Washington themed, iconic moments, which I loved. Housekeeping was attentive, gave us extra towels when we asked, without performing a whole room clean, as we asked them to skip it, as we didn't really need it after only 10 hours in the room.
The location is perfect for sightseeing /museums, and we walked many miles through snow/sleet, and discovered that DC does not excel at snow removal. There are great restaurants very close by the hotel, as well as an endless variety of places that deliver until past midnight.
We'd consider staying again at the Renaissance, but would probably check their convention schedule first. Hundreds of pepped up volleyball players trying to fit on one elevator can be slightly overwhelming.

This is a tremendous hotel with a perfect location amidst the heart of DC, surrounded by a wide array of restaurants, and within 2 blocks of the metro. The lobby is fresh and active, the President's Bar a great place to watch the World Cup, in-room dining a treat, and my room was incredibly comfortable (with a wonderful shower). I will definitely stay here again. Thanks to all the great staff and, in particular, thanks to Cassie at reception who found me a great room.

Was here for a week long conference, the hotel is conveniently located close to chinatown and the eating places around the convention center and gallery place. The metro lines are about 2 blocks away with lots of choices for nightlife and restaurants.

The hotel itself is well established with comfortable and clean rooms, attentive and helpful staff. The meeting rooms are comfortable and well lit. Ideal place to stay whether here on business or with the family.

Room Tip: higher level rooms, facing the interior are quieter.

Traveled for business and spent much of the time in different conference rooms. However this also pertains to the hotel rooms as well. Temperature control is a big issue within the building. In the hotel rooms it was difficult achieve temperature regulation. The system goes on and off frequently and no matter how I tried to adjust the controls the airflow was quite irratic. As for the conference rooms this is more so an issue. It's either freezing or no flow at all (because it had to be shut off). Literally left some conferences due to the extreme cold. I was told they are aware of this. The lobby itself is very conducive to its patrons. Many different areas to sit and work or socialize. A very cozy and inviting environment. The restaurant is over priced, best to go out for meals. Staff was very pleasant and willing to help. I would definitely stay again however I'd bring heavier clothing, which isn't something you want to do in 90 degree weather!

What a beautiful hotel! Welcoming, modern hotel. Friendly staff (even at 12:30 am!), great room and exceptional linen! Loved the Washington details throughout the room, President's signatures in the closet and pictures in the bathroom were a lot of fun. The sliding door with large full length mirror was fantastic! Gave us so much room to get ready, really appreciated that detail and wish more hotels would follow, made the bathroom feel much larger than it was.

The view from the room was the only disappointment, however I was recommended an interior room for less street noise.

Lots of shops and restaurants around the hotel are under construction, but seems like it will be quite the upscale neighborhood at the end of the summer.

Excellent stay, will return.
