“disappointing”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

I don't believe our room had been thoroughly cleaned. One of the sheets was torn. Terrible value for the cost. Service was just over adequate. My guess is they can charge these prices because of the historic relevance.
The public areas are spectacular. I did like privacy feature of the lock setting which did not allow card key entry, when occupied.

The Mayflower is full of history, charm, & beauty. From the minute you enter the brass and glass front door (where you are greeted by a doorman!) you feel transformed back to another era. The lobby is quite lovely with large glass chandeliers and lots of gold relief work. The staff goes the extra mile to make guests feel welcome and they take pride in their work. Many of the staff has been there 20 plus years and it shows! Customer service is at a premium at the Mayflower! The rooms are very comfortable with all the modern amenities. The view varies depending on the location of the room but who comes to Washington DC to gaze out their hotel window? "Edgar", the in house restaurant and bar has modern decor wich doesn't quite fit the old world look and feel of the hotel but it wasns't a turn off. it's a great spot for breakfast - buffet is $25 but worth the cost if you're too busy to stop for lunch. Staff in Edgar is friendly as well but not quite at efficient. I highly recommend the Mayflower and would definitely stay there again!

Booked through Priceline - beautiful, large historic hotel. The newly-opened lobby bar has terrible service but otherwise the stay was lovely. Also, the front desk girl was gorgeous! Fully enjoyed the stay. Great aveda products in room also

My family and friends stayed here while at a convention in D.C. some time ago and very much enjoyed it! We had wonderful rooms - not big compared to some places, but this is an older building! We were tucked away where there were three suites and it was very quiet! All of the staff we encountered were very attentive and kind. Sitting in the lobby was just amazing - being where so many famous people had been at one time ... and still are! Our room had robes for us to use and we purchased one...it always brings good memories!

This is one of those landmark hotels that has been around for years; classic and elegant. I was there for a 3 night business stay and came in early in the day. Presto, yes, we have a room for you! I was on the 9th floor in 929 I think. Totally psyched because the room was enormous!

I settled in and looked outside and found that there were huge air conditioning units below that grumbled a bit. But I didn't worry about it too much until it came time to sleep. OMG...imagine you're trying to sleep on a jetway with planes taking off all around you...that is what this sounded like. Try as I might, sleeping pills and all, I could not sleep. I called the front desk and they graciously moved me at midnight to a MUCH MUCH nicer room and location! I was thrilled with how they handled this, thank you! My colleague originally had a room that faced Connecticut Ave and he too had to be moved since it was really noisy. So make sure to ask for rooms that are truly quiet if this matters to you. All rooms have the old style air conditioners that kick on and off. The staff here was very nice and accommodating.

Location is very good if you're into walking to the White House and such. There were many nearby restaurants and the hotel restaurant was quite good as well. It was also right next to the Metro which was very handy. Can't say anything bad except to beware of your room location.

Room Tip: Higher doesn't mean quiet. See my full review and be sure to check the room noise levels before...

This is a very nice hotel for when you're in DC for work. The hotel is nicer now that the much needed renovation of the lobby and bar has occurred.

Rooms are nice, maybe a little dated but with fine amenities and good beds. A decent workout facility, good staff, nice new bar, great club lounge for Platinum travelers. All good.

The location is a little out of the way - north of the WH - so it's a 15 minute cab ride to the Hill and longer if you're going to VA for a meeting. Nevertheless, if you're going to DC on business, you won't go wrong with this place.

Room Tip: Please note, I have no idea if they have a swimming pool and I don't think they have a spa, thus...

Can't believe this hotel isn't in the top 10, let alone top 50?!?!?!?!?!?!??! This hotel is a landmark, it has probably hosted more presidents then then any other hotel in DC. The lobby was newly renovated, the rooms were classic, but updated and comfortable. The staff was amazing and the banana bread was to die for. The location is perfect, between the White House and Georgetown, 4 blocks from lively DuPont circle.
