I stayed at this property in its previous lives -- a Sheraton Barcelo and a Radisson. I always enjoyed my stay here.
It is now a Kimpton which has brought the distinctive Kimpton style of art and decor, which in some hotels is a distraction in my opinion. But not here. The art blends well and adds rather than detracts.
The service was 99% impeccable. Friendly. Prompt. I had occasion to call them two times prior to my early arrival and they were courteous and accomodating.
The 1% of non-impeccable service was when I arrived in a very steady rain. The bell-person was helpful, but then he stood under the small protected area in front while I finished grabbing some things from my automobile. A better service would have been to hold an umbrella over me.
But he was a nice guy and we talked and shared some common interests briefly a few minutes later as I was checking in.
Room 324 was large with a ceiling to floor window looking over P Street. This could be noisy on hot summer nights when boys walk up and down P Street with their friends. (There are at least a couple of popular guy nightspots within a stone's throw--not that I throw stones, mind you.)
My rate was $119. I guess because it was the weekend before Christmas and all through the House and Senate not a creature was stirring.
Hotel Palomar--and don't confuse this property with the Palomar in Arlington--is very well located with good access up to Connecticut Avenue with shops and stores, and a Metro Station, and lots of restaurants in just a very short walk. (I no longer recommend "Stars" --formerly Mimi's -- across the street.)
The restaurant in the hotel -- Urbana -- is excellent! with a cozy, friendly bar! Very convenient if you don't want to walk even a block up to Pesce or across the street to Uni, a sushi restaurant.
Summary? A very pleasant hotel. I'm not sure what you would find to dislike. I recommend it totally!
