Hi qdkelly,

Thank you so much for your review. Sounds like a great mix of value and services. Our guestroom size and gym, are larger than the average accommodations in DC. Appreciate you sharing that. A tid bit of info, our Restaurant is undergoing a renovation in July. Be sure to check us out after.

Stayed for a family city break. Location close to Dupont Circle and Metro was really helpful. Also not too far from a stop on the yellow route on the "Big Bus Tour" (recommended). We had an executive room with two Queen size beds - room very spacious and coped well with four of us. Free wifi (thanks to being a Kimpton In Touch member) was very helpful.
All staff were really friendly and helpful - particularly the concierge team.

Room Tip: Some early morning noise from garbage removal for rooms at the back of the hotel.

Reviewed April 18, 2014

We stayed here in April for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We stayed in a king executive room (room 517) that is on the side of the hotel with a "view". The view consisted of watching people walk up and down "P" street and the opportunity to peer into the windows of the of hotel across the street. Better than a parking lot view, but not sure if it trumps selecting a room on the other side of the hotel (aka: the "quiet" side.) Although we didn't hear much street noise, we did hear a constant explosion sort of sound each time a passing car would hit the loose steel plate cover in the street, first with the front tire, to be followed by the rear ones shortly thereafter.

The room was perfect in every way. Very spacious, nicely appointed from the smoothly finished ceilings to the sculpted carpet. A pet peeve of mine is that bathrooms are not equipped with dimmer switches so that you don't have to turn on what seems to be interrogation lights at 3am if you awake and decide to use the restroom.....the Palomar is the exception. (we typically pack a night light to avoid this shock) In fact, they use dimmer switches throughout the room. The bathroom was very nicely appointed as well. Good quality everywhere you looked in the room.....from the furnishings, to the linens to the pillows, the comfy bed, the towels....everything was first class. Even the provided bath robes were above and beyond. The room itself ranks as one of the finest that we have ever stayed. This was our first stay at a Kimpton and were were certainly impressed.

For us, the check in process is so important, and so often can set the tone for our stay. After reading such wonderful reviews on TA before selecting this hotel, our expectations were high and were met with Gordon at the front desk. It is always a pleasure dealing with bright and competent people. The concierge also was quite helpful and at times so were the doormen. I would say that they would open the door for us about 30% of the time. The elevators were a bit slow, (one is being repaired, leaving only 2) but part of this could be accounted that the hotel was 100% full. (The cherry blossoms being in full bloom.)

We did hear our neighbors, and they were not speaking in a unusually loud voice, which made us wonder if they could hear us because sometimes at various times of the night we too can get a bit "loud" without realizing it. If so, they'd have a better reason to complain than we do : )
We'll keep reading the reviews to see if they write one.

The location of the hotel would be GREAT for most normal people. It is located in an area with many great restaurants, bakeries and a large CVS all very nearby. It is 2 short blocks from the Metro (red line, Dupont Circle. BTW, if you exit the SOUTH side of the metro stop you'll be closer to the hotel) However, we enjoy renting bicycles and seeing the sights via pedal power....and this hotel is uphill and a farther distance from those sights than we have enjoyed previously. Perhaps only 10 minutes or so, in the uphill direction (less time in the other, of course)....which, if you choose to use a taxi or the metro to reach the sights then this is of no significance whatsoever. This was the only drawback that we felt by staying here.....which shouldn't affect most normal people who visit Washington. In fact, the hotel offers free bikes (nice ones!) to guests on a first come, first served basis....which I strongly urge you to try at least once during your stay if time permits. Biking the mall beats walking the mall 10 times out of 10.

The happy hour in the lobby looked very inviting, although we didn't partake as we were wanting to take that perfect cherry blossom photo and catching the right light. Otherwise we'd be able to write first hand about that experience.....it was a nice set up anyway.

One last note, if you sign up for the Kimpton guest program, they will thank you by giving you free room internet for your entire stay as well as a coupon to "raid the bar" for $10. Keep in mind that the raid the bar deal isn't per night, just $10 total....which are nice perks for just signing up. Also, the printing of boarding passes are complimentary to guests.

All in all we loved our stay here and would encourage friends to stay here as well.

We stayed four nights over July 4th, 2013. Four adults, four children. The hotel is gorgeous, especially the floor to ceiling windows overlooking the street. Pool was perfect after hot days touring the city. The staff is wonderful, and wine hour much appreciated by the adults. Our kids loved the mini robes, pool, goldfish, nightly milk and cookies, and DVD selection. The queen queen room was very spacious. We used the umbrella in the closet quite a bit! The location is great. Quick walk to the Metro, and lots of restaurants in the area. We would definitely go back, and we always try to stay at a Kimpton if possible!!!!

Room Tip: Request a room with floor to ceiling windows overlooking P Street.

Hi TraveleringMom91,

Thank you for your review.

We're an awesome choice for Families! We've have a large number of connecting rooms between Executive King and Executive Queen Queen Rooms. Combined, you're looking at about 1000 square feet between two rooms. Hard to imagine another Hotel that can pull that off with two standard rooms.

We stayed at the Palomar this past weekend with my pup to visit the cherry blossom festival. First and foremost, the drive down from NYC should take about 4.5 hours more or less. Our attempts to leave late evening to avoid the rush hour traffic resulted in a 5.5 drive due to endless accidents and construction on I-95. We finally arrived at the hotel at 3 AM, which unfortunately because the front desk was running their nightly audit... we were delayed at identifying our room. The nice front desk ladies (I'm sorry I didn't get any names!) put us in a Presidential Suite for the night before switching us to our Executive King the next day. The Suite was amazing, I really didn't want to leave it! But the King was just as nice. Room pros: Comfy bed, nice bath products, great water pressure in the shower. Cons: I don't really mind, but if I must be critical walls can be a little thin only if you have loud speaking neighbors. They are working on the elevators so it seems like only one was working during my stay (a notice is posted in the rooms). I never had an issue getting on/off the elevator as I was on the 9th and 10th floors. People on the middle floors couldn't get on the elevator going down as it was generally full by the time it reached them during peak hours. My dog was treated like a guest and referred to by his name by staff. They provided him with a doggie bed, bowl and the treats at the front door would have been eaten by him had I left him to his own accord. Great location near Dupont Circle, and walking distance to "Lucky Bar" which is an Arsenal Supporters bar! Kimpton rewards members get a $10 voucher to use (i.e. for the mini bar). Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Top floors help alleviate the elevator work - pretty much guaranteed to get on the elevator.

Hi robeans,

Thanks for your review.

Sounds like overall a very good stay, barring a few issues. So you are aware, we are in the midst of a major renovation, where the elevators are the first stage in the process. We will be addressing both the elevator issue as well as room to room noise issue with the renovation. Unfortunately, the elevator repairs will take several months to complete, given the nature of the work.

Hopefully you will rejoin us next year when all has been completed.

We were in town for an event, so someone else chose this location. What an excellent choice they made. All of the employees were attentive, polite, and seemed truly pleased to have us there.During our stay, I asked several questions about directions, where to buy certain items etc, and they went out of their way to get me correct answers. A couple of times the doormen hailed us cabs, which is not something we are used to doing so we appreciated that. We also were within a 5-10 minute walk to the Metro station, which is an adventure in itself.

They had no king rooms left when we made our reservation, so we were in a two-queen room.--comfortable bed and linens. There was still plenty of floor space to move around. We got a corner room just as we prefer. It was far from the elevator and felt very private and quiet. Everything was clean and fresh.

Thankfully there was an umbrella in the closet because I had forgotten mine. Yes, it is purple and says Palomar on it, but such thoughtfulness can be rewarded with a little advertising.

We also requested a coffee maker in our room, and it was delivered on a tray with mugs, coffee, and condiments.

As others have mentioned, the wine hour in the early evening is a welcome amenity. They served the wines at proper temperatures, which greatly enhances the flavor and enjoyment. They also were serving sake in honor of the Cherry Blossom Festival- delicious.

The elevator was usually slow to arrive, plus one of them was temporarily out of service. But that just gave us something to joke about with other guests.

The event price did not go over to another night, so we were happy to have experienced this level of service while we could.

We stayed at this hotel from 15th March for 5 days. Its a lovely hotel, large clean room and bathroom and we found all the staff very helpful and friendly. The hotel is on to a winner with the wine tasting hour between 5 - 6pm in the lobby, we visited each evening of our stay a great way to meet people and enjoy some good wine. With being a In Touch member we received free Wi-Fi and a $10 voucher for the room mini bar or drinks in the bar.
On our checkout we were informed that we could keep our room until 2pm, which was very helpful. Would recommend this hotel as its just off DuPont Circle and within walking distance to the White House, monuments, museums ect. would stay here again if visiting Washington DC.
