This review is long-coming; I actually stayed here in 2010 when I needed a convenient dog-friendly hotel. The Palomar was perfect and the staff very friendly. The rooms were spacious and clean and I felt very comfortable. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

I have to start with I love Kimpton hotels. The Palomar DC was in a great location (Dupont Circle) with access to the metro, great restaurants, etc. Of course the happy hour is always a plus (had a hot toddy for the first time and really liked it), staff was extremely friendly (it's what you become to expect at a Kimpton), but the rooms and common areas need a little more attention to detail and definitely more cleaning. While everything was "neat" there is definitely wear and tear - wallcovering in bathroom was dirty (all you need is to wipe it down) and the light switches in the bathroom were disgusting (again just give them a wipe). Elevators were beat with trash in the corners (who would throw trash on the floor of an elevator). Asked for a quiet room and got one that looked over a dumpster and parking lot (not very appealing). Lots of trucks coming and going early in the morning too so while it was quite at night, don't expect to sleep late. Overall really nice hotel but will probably try the Monaco next time we're in town.

Room Tip: When asking for a quiet room make sure it's not one that overlooks delivery door.

STAY HERE, hotel is close to perfection!!
I'm a kimpton inner circle member so I stay regalury in kimpton hotels, I have to say that this one together with the epic hotel in Miami is one of their best hotels.
The staff is absolutely fantastic, the rooms are HUGE, the location is just perfect, the bar is terrific, the fire place in the lobby creates a great atmosphere I can not name one bad thing about this hotel! I had a king spa suite which is highly recommendable!
I'm going back for work in a few weeks to dc and I can honestly tell you that I going back to this hotel for sure!!
Top hotel!!

Hotel lobby was cozy and inviting. Staff at the desk was friendly and professional. Restaurant was a nice place to unwind after a trip. First glass of wine was free, though our red wine was just ok. We tried their freshly made thin-crust pizza and it was delicious. Restaurants staff was courteous and efficient. Elevators were a touch small and wood panels had obvious scratches. Found two candy wraps at the corner of an elevator one morning and noticed the same wraps when we came back after breakfast. Our room was furnished with modern furniture and bed was comfortable. However, from sagging pillows, thinned-out blanket, shoddy moldings, no-ventilation bathroom, swing-closed only bathroom door, to no slippers, it is clearly not a 4-star establishment.

The hotel is a small, functional hotel. The room was very nice. It was clean and nicely decorated as was the bathroom. There were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room although I understand that there was tea/coffee available in the foyer in the morning. Nonetheless, if you are away most of the day it is nice to return to your room and have a tea/coffee when you feel like it. The hallways are a little worn in appearance (wallpaper coming away in places) but nothing serious. The food in the restaurant attached to the hotel was good. The staff at reception were helpful and friendly. The hotel is conveniently located close to the Dupont Circle (Red Line)Metro stop (note: the Dupont Circle Metro stop opens at 5.30 am for those looking to catch early morning flights from Dulles Int. Airport). The only small issue I would highlight was that although I placed two wake-up calls, I didn't receive a wake-up call on the second morning. I would recommend this hotel for business/short stay travellers.

The reception and concierge services were very good. Most needs could be met if items had been forgotten but ask for a kettle / coffee maker for the room.
The room was a decent size and clean.
A very good buffet breakfast was provided and very good evening meals.
A free glass of wine was provided in reception between 5pm and 6pm.
The Dupont Circle Subway station is around 100 yards up the street and after a few stops and one change you can be in the middle of the Washington Mall.

We loved the decor, the service and the location of this hotel. The staff were friendly, the beds massive and the restaraunt was good. The rooms were quiet and well serviced by housekeeping.

My only two small gripes were that the standard breakfast included in the rate was a little lacking. The waiters brought a selection of cold breakfast items when I would much rather have chosen from a buffet. Items at an extra charge were tasty and reasonable value - the the choice was not very extensive.

My other problem was that there was no drinks making facilities in the rooms. Coffee etc was served in reception from around 6.30am but we were up at 5am (still on UK time) and desperate for a cuppa! We found it odd since the rooms were so lovely otherwise.
