What can I say about this place that hasn't already been said? Let me try:
-We chose the Hotel Palomar because of their dog-friendly policy: no restrictions on size, breed or quantity of dogs (we have two, 20lbs and 50lbs, a poodle and a pitbull). Also no requirements that the dogs must not be left in the room alone, or that they must be crated. In short - our dogs felt very welcome the entire duration of our stay, and it really went a long way in making us loyal Kimpton Hotels customers (the entire Kimpton brand is pet-friendly).
-The room was spacious - over 500 sq. ft. Very comfortable King-size bed. Lots of natural light, and one of the most comfortable ergonomic chairs we've ever sat in. Warm, comfy, cozy. Exactly what we wanted.
-Location is excellent. 2 blocks from the Dupont Circle Metro station. A 15-minute walk to Georgetown, just head west on P St. Around the corner from Embassy Row and the Phillips Collection.
-Great places to eat: Kramerbooks and Afterwards Cafe (open all night Friday and Saturdays); Bistrot du Coin, Jaleo, Blue Duck Tavern, 1789, Bier Baron. Couldn't go wrong.
-The hotel has a daily wine happy hour from 5-6pm in their lobby. Choice of white, red and hot toddies (in winter time). Also complimentary hot chocolate, coffee and tea in the a.m. in the lobby as well.
-Front Desk and Valet attendants were more than helpful.
-Our only teeny tiny complaint is that the wifi service was less-than-reliable for the majority of our stay at the hotel. Each room does come with a hard-wired ethernet cable, and that worked just fine, but it meant only one of us could be on reliable internet at any given time. Not sure what they are doing to fix the problem.
-Also, on our third night (we stayed a total of 4 nights), some very noise people checked into the room next to us (we were in 802, they were in 801). They were VERY loud, raucous and distracting, but it was still early evening (say, between 8-10pm). My boyfriend and I had decided to stay in for the night (cold, rainy weather), and didn't want to be kept up until all hours of the night with these people. I called down to guest services around 9pm - not to register the complaint, but just to feel them out for when it would be acceptable to make a noise complaint or ask them to take action - and they were already on top of it! They had already had a problem with the people and were sending security up to give them a warning. Whether the hotel moved the people or they actually quieted down, I don't know. But I do know they took care of it, and we got a good night's sleep!
-They have a generous AAA discount (15% I think), which was great. Parking was a little on the high side - $40/night - but all in all, we still paid under $200/night for the room, parking and all the amenities.
WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!!!
