I have stayed at the Palomar for 12 days. I have one major complaint. My husband and I were put in a connecting room, from which we could hear everything from the room next door: very loud music when we were jet lagged and needed to sleep and the porn our neighbor used to watch at night. I called the reception more than once and they NEVER did anything. They never called the guest next door or sent someone up to ask him to be more quiet. (I could hear when the phone rang or someone knocked at the door and no one called or came) This was very disappointing.
The rooms are good and spacious, but the bathrooms need updating. There is no shower base, you shower on the floor, and there's just a curtain, which does not prevent the floor to get flooded every time you shower.
Other than that, the rooms are clean, the location is very good and the wine reception fun, but I am not sure if I would go back to this hotel, and I go to DC often.

Room Tip: Avoid communicating rooms

Dear gommina,

Thank you for the comments about your recent stay at the Palomar DC. I am sorry about the sound that traveled through the connecting door and the issue you had with the shower. It was nice to read you enjoyed our location and the manager hosted wine reception.

We look forward to welcoming you back to DC soon.

Regards,

Thomas

We went to the Palomar Hotel recently with our two young children. The front desk staff immediately welcomed them and gave them small gifts. The kids were thrilled!! And throughout our stay, we felt welcomed by all the staff members. I want to especially mention the men at the door - they were so friendly and always had a kind word for our kids and us. We would definitely stay there again, if only for the amazing staff, but the hotel is also located in a great place, near the metro, in the Dupont Circle area. The restaurant was great, too.

The best feature of this hotel is location. Definitely in the center of things in the Dupont Circle neighborhood.
Quick check in, but not very personal nor warm. Overall the people working in this hotel could be a bit more friendly/smiling, especially the concierge.
Got an upgrade to a bigger room, but we weren't told it was a handicapped-equipped room. Would have preferred a standard room.
Beds are OK, quite disappointed to be honest. Not as good as a Marriott.
The bar in the hotel is terrific, but the happy hour with wine out of a Tetrapak box, and cheap crackers is really a joke....
Overall, an OK stay. Woudnt stay again.

Dear frenchtom51,

I appreciate the feedback about your recent visit, which will assist me following up with our staff. Each month a new wine is chosen for our manager hosted wine reception in the lobby. For the month of April, to coincide with Earth Month and to denote Kimpton's focus on the environment, the French wine in the specialized eco-friendly container was chosen. I was pleased to note you enjoyed our location and our Urbana bar.

Regards,

Thomas

For our 3-night stay in DC during the Cherry Blossom festival, we chose this hotel for 3 reasons: 1) #1 ranking on Tripadvisor, 2) Pet-friendly, and 3) the fantastic DCSUN rate that was advertised on their website under "Specials and Packages".

The high level of service at this hotel is really their key to success. We did not meet a single unfriendly staff member. We had a number of requests that were immediately fulfilled including early check-in & late check-out and the delivery of a yoga mat (w/ foam blocks) and foam pillows to our room.

Our room, 301, was a Queen Queen Executive room at the end of the hallway. Very spacious, well-decorated, and clean. Large closet with umbrella, iron/board, hangers, robes (zebra and leopard print a bit tacky IMO), and large safe. Desk area was large with plenty of outlets for our various gadgets (laptop, phone chargers, etc.) Free wifi if you join their (free) loyalty program; otherwise $10/day. Beds were comfortable, but not as firm as we like. Aveda products in the bathroom with plenty of counter space. Our room overlooked P Street and got a decent amount of sun. Light sleepers may be bothered by street noise in the morning. Housekeeping did an excellent job with our room and even laid out a towel under the dog bowl to serve as a mat.

The Palomar is VERY pet-friendly. Water bowls and Milkbone treats at the front door. Rock Creek Park is just 2 blocks away for pet relief. The concierge has pamphlets at the ready with doggie daycare, vet, and pet store suggestions. Many of the staff members are animal lovers and stopped to say hi to our dog =) Our best customer service experience came from a waitress at Urbana, the hotel restaurant, who offered to serve us dinner in the hotel lobby/lounge area after we told her that we were having trouble finding pet-friendly outdoor dining. Although we ended up leaving our dog upstairs in the room and eating at Urbana with friends, we appreciated her thoughtfulness. She even remembered our dog's name when we saw her at breakfast 2 days later!

Urbana, the hotel's Italian restaurant, was the gastronomical highlight of our trip. The salads were fresh, innovative, and delicious. Our entire party was blown away by the pastas (loved the spicy crab ragout fettucine). Cocktails were creative and the wine list allowed for 1/2 glass tastings. Service was attentive. Our only complaint was that the noise level in the open subterranean space was energetic and not conducive to "indoor voice" conversations.

Aside from Urbana, we found plenty of dining/cafe/bar options in Dupont Circle. The hotel's location is quite ideal. We actually walked to the White House and Cherry Blossom festival. We would have used the Metro more often given the proximity to the hotel, but our dog was not allowed, so we ended up taking taxis (a taxi stand is conveniently located right in front of the hotel). Although we drove in, many people advised us against driving/parking within DC given the dearth of public parking. At $38/night, we found the valet option at Palomar to be a bit steep, so we actually left the car in a nearby garage ($24/weekday, $6/weekend day).

Bottom line: We had a fantastic stay, and would absolutely recommend this hotel.

This is the second time we have stayed at the DC Palomar. If you want to stay here (and you should) be smart - join the Kimpton "In Touch" program (automatic $10 coupon to 'raid the minibar') and carefully, carefully look at specials and packages listed. Sometimes very similar packages can have different costs, and (as in our case) a $30 upgrade moved us from a King to a Superior Suite. This is not available all the time - but be smart and study the website. Also, make sure you are familiar with the list of amenities and take advantage of those you like.

Now, the hotel - wonderful clean room with great bed. Our view wasn't the best, but that wasn't important to us. Location of hotel is great. Easy walk to great restaurants on Conn Ave, and little bit longer to Georgetown - where everything is.

The best part about the hotel is the employees. As my husband said, 'you really get the feeling that these folks will do everything they can to make sure you're happy.' So to John (Bob Seger) and Kelly (Bruce!) Abe and Patrick, I send my hearfelt thanks. You helped me have one of the best birthday weekends ever. We will always try to stay at this fantastic property

This was a return stay here and enjoyed this visit more than the first. Hotel is lovely and the staff are professional and focused on guest comfort. Spacious room with very comfortable bed and a seating/lounge area with plenty of space to work (which unfortunately we still did even though this was supposed to be time off :) Very close to Dupont Circle and the Metro and Rock Creek Park is off the other way. Great restaurants all over this area.

If you are looking for a view, keeping looking. Some rooms have a nice but ordinary view of 'P' St., and ours had no view whatsoever, but it did have a ton of space, couch, table and jacuzzi tub (highly recommend) and a walk in closet. Only made it back to the wine reception once and enjoyed great wine there, then on to dinner at Al Tiramisu down the street.

We had a mixed experience in the restaurant Urbana. We ate one breakfast and two late dinners - food was good, service was really lacking. The restaurant looks elegant/ hip and it was packed both nights, but the service was so disappointing, I'd only recommend if you don't care much about how well you are treated when served pricy drinks and food.

But back to the good - if you love being pampered and treated well as a guest - the Hotel Palomar is still a terrific choice.

Room Tip: Exec King w/ jacuzzi tub if you can

Let me start out my saying I am not a boutique hotel person. I stayed there because it was close to my meeting location. My room, which was upgraded had a big whirlpool bath. The decor was strange-lots of dark colors. Everything worked fine, the bed was comfortable, etc. I thought the room service breakfast was so-so. The pancakes weren't very good. The decor in the hallway was really odd and dark. The hotel restaurant was fine.

The staff was very pleasant, even the bellperson who forgot to put my hanging bag in the taxi when we left. They did overnight it at their expense.
