This place is really an assault on the eyes - garishness is everywhere, but in a deliberate stylish way that puts a smile on your face. Leopard print carpets, ridiculous robes in the room - its all done for fun and works.

Big rooms, great location, great value. Sociable atmosphere. Best for couples and party going groups.

We stayed at this hotel 3 nights in mid April this year.
The design is cool (red wall, red pictures, etc), the room is very clean, large and the bed is the most comfortable I have ever slept in a hotel. There is a big TV and a stereo system.
The bathroom is clean, good water pressure, Aveda products.
There is a Whole Foods supermarket 5 min from the hotel and it is quite handy for fresh hot breakfast (or dinner)
Hotel staff is friendly and kind.
The location is good - close to Dupont Circle (10 min walking), and also 10 min. walking on 14th street to the White House.
I would definitely return to this hotel.

While I dig the hip and happening Rouge, it's been a few years since it has opened and it shows. They hung the curtains wrong...they're meant to go on a pole across the room with huge grommets at the top but are hung like old fashioned 1940's pleated. The happy hour (complimentary) is a welcome home from walking the mall and seeing the sights (look left - it's the white house!). The front desk is a nice as can be, but my credit card was charged way five times for my three rooms. Sorting that out with the hotel sucks, but their accounting department is so gracious and kind, taking the time to explain the issue and how they will resolve it to the guest's satisfaction...that's why I keep returning. Although we weren't issued an honor bar key, we were charged for an item not there. Don't stay here for a restaurant, they can't offer one. It IS a rockin bar with bar food. The desk personnel are wonderful and the bell staff incredible. I'm a huge KIMPTON fan...and with a little spruce up, this could be an incredible hotel...maybe even a star bump with attention to the details....paint, wallpaper, lampshade fixes in the rooms will do that.

Very nice change from the major chains. Great location, very close to the Metro. Excellent service. Located only 1 block from one of the best Supermarkets is have visited. One can save lots of money on meals just by getting a kitchenette and using the Whole Foods store.
This chain has an excellent eco friendly policy. Will return.

I travel to DC frequently. So, I have stayed in a lot of different hotels from the big chains to the historial or boutiques or discount places. This is my favorite hotel. Now - it is not for everyone. It has bright red walls in the hallways, leopard spotted carpet, orange chest of drawers, wax lips in the mini bar, tiger striped terry robes. You probably get the sense of the place. But that sense of fun carries into the staff's attitude. These are smiling folks who want to help you.

The beds are great, linens top rate. It is one of the few places I visit where I can actually sleep the first night there. Bath tub could use an update, but lots of hot water. Aveda products.

Rooms are quiet. Free internet. Small stereo in each room with a selection of discs for your pleasure.

I simply adore this place and always stay there now when I go to DC when the price is right. Hotel pricing is DC is totally unpredictable. Sometimes they have wanted $400 a night at the Rouge, other times just over a $100. So, check it out if you are going there. It is a fun and memorable experience.
