“Excellent Swanky Hotel”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

I have stayed at the Hotel Rouge on several occasions. It is conveniently located a short few block walk from Dupont Circle. The hotel has very hip and swanky decor. A very cool vibe. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to DC who wants a cool place to stay.

I was here 4 days for a business trip, loved the very relaxed attitude and the kindness and helpfulness of the personell. The rooms are spacious and clean, the bar is great, breakfast also. It's not a luxury hotel (prices are low enough for DC) but nothing is amiss; I particularly liked the "funky" touch, with all that red and all those pictures in the halls and the artistic frequentation, mostly photographers, that haunt the bar.

Their pet policy is exceedingly liberal. No pet fees. The rooms are nice and very comfortable and very red. (Although they skimp slightly on amenities. And there was only one robe in the room when two of us checked in.)

However, there were many, many pluses...mainly the flexibility of hotel policies and staff. For instance, our room rate (AAA very good deal) included breakfast but when we mentioned we'd have to leave the room too early to have breakfast, they traded our breakfast coupon in for a drink coupon we could use that night at the bar. That was so nice! And the lack of a pet fee put us in a 4/5 star room for exactly the same price we would've paid for a 1/2 star plus the pet fee. So well, well worth it.

There is free Internet available, but you have to register with Kimpton in order to get it. Otherwise, you can pay. This is slightly annoying.

Parking is expensive (unless you have a hybrid car in which case they give you a huge discount,) but there is decent overnight street parking in the neighborhood--only problem is you have to move your car by 9 AM. There is a Whole Foods nearby which gives 2 hours of free parking in it's garage...so if you move your car over there...you can extend to 11 if you're willing to buy something at Whole Foods...

My wife and I just returned from a two night stay at Rouge. We liked the location on 16th St. halfway between Dupont and Logan Circles and within easy walking distance from many attractions and fine restaurants. The color scheme of the hotel is red, striking in its intensity, but visually pleasing just the same. Our first night we were in Rm. 1006, next to an elevator that was malfunctioning all weekend. It was a disaster, because it stopped on every floor, all night long, and our room must have been next to the mechansim because it made a loud unpleasant whirring noise that, after trying to block it out for a few hours, I could no longer take. At 2:30 a.m. we changed rooms to 1012. Needless to say, the first night was a disaster. The hotel needs new elevators. The two they have all small and cramped, and obviously old and outdated.

Aside from that, the hotel was fine. The restaurant served very good food and drinks in a welcoming atmosphere. The staff was also very helpful, though removing a $16.00 charge from my $500+ bill for the first night was not much of a consideration. The rooms are large and spacious, with a huge floor to ceiling free standing mirror. Bathrobes are really funky. Bed and pillows very comfortable.Nice wine reception every night from 5:00-6:00 p.m. I had to rate the hotel 3 instead of 4 stars because of the elevators.

Dear Equity. Thank you very much for commenting on your recent visit to the Hotel Rouge. I am pleased that you enjoyed your visit overall but apologize for the problems experienced due to the elevator malfunctions – what a pain! The problem was fixed promptly but we realize what a huge inconvenience it is when things like elevators break even if for a short time.

Really friendly, helpful people in The Rouge Hotel. They helped me fine a good run when I arrived, got me oriented for my business meetings a few blocks away, and made my DC stay very enjoyable. The artwork, the restaurant menu, the carpet, the late afternoon wine tasting -- all make The Rouge a fun, relaxing place to stay.

The Hotel Rouge is FANTASTIC. It is funky and slightly quirky, but it is designed that way. The bedrooms are very spaceous and nicely furnished with a large sofa, high-back chair and stool together with a selection of attractive lamps and a huge mirror. The bed was really comfortable and there were loads of pillows available. I also found the hotel to be pleasantly quiet.
Each evening between 5pm-6pm there are free glasses of wine for guests, either to chat with other guests or just to 'chill out' on your own.
The staff at the Rouge are exceptional. Nothing is too much trouble and they were the best I have encountered in nearly 50 trips to DC.
There are bikes that guests can use around the city, and good quality bikes too. I used them twice and had a great time seeing much more of Washington than I had managed in previous visits.
The hotel is conveniently located about 6-7 minutes walk from Dupont Circle or Farragut North metro stops. Therefore restaurants and pubs are within easy walking distance. The buffet breakfast (which was included on my tariff) was more than adequate.
The Rouge will certainly be my first choice for all future trips to DC because it's just a great hotel, with really helpful staff and a commitment to make the guest feel welcome. It is the sort of place that puts a smile on your face.

Room Tip: The 10th floor can be a little noisy due to the AC. I relocated to the 6th floor (601) and had rea...

We, being a family of 5 from Australia traveled to Washington DC in September 2012 as part of our 6 week holiday touring the USA.We stayed in a family suite which consisted of 2 queen beds and bunk beds. The room was clean, fairly large and quiet. The area that it is situated in is residential and about a 20 minute walk to the White House. The restaurants are about a 15 minute walk and there is also a fresh food market close by along with a laundry service which we used.Staff are friendly and helpful and the bar downstairs was an added bonus after sight seeing all day, it was lovely to sit back and relax with a few quiet ales.
We loved DC and all it has to offer. A very clean, beautiful city.
I would recommend staying at the Rouge. Reasonably priced and quite central to all sight seeing activities.
