I was planning a 9 night stay at the Park Hyatt for meetings later in May. I had the opportunity to test it out early in May for one night and did so. After being there a few hours, I checked out and cancelled my 9 night stay.
This hotel lacks proper signage. Beginning at the outside, I had to ask someone standing on the street where it was. The Concierge desk is unmarked and undistinguishable from the front desk personnel. The elevators and restaurant are unmarked. The logical door to the restaurant is NOT the door to the restaurant and I was stopped from walking through to the restaurant. The actual door to the restaurant is not visible from the hotel and there are no signs directing a guest to the door. In fact there is no sign identifying ANYTHING in the hotel except for the fitness center and pool. Getting to the fitness center, "spa" and pool is a trip. There is no elevator to the fitness center and pool. One must go down two flights of steps in the fire evacuation stairwell to get to it. And if you've had a massage in their non-functional "spa room" (I guess it will eventually be open.) you have to ask your newly relaxed muscles to climb two full commercial flights of stairs to get back to your hotel room, walk down a very long hall to the elevators and then take the elevator to your room. Not a very relaxing experience.
The Park Suite was immaculate. However, the tan carpet choice had a tendency to look soiled because of the type of nap. This same carpet was in the hallways of the hotel which detracted from its appearance. The color scheme in the Park Suite involves either tan or dark brown light absorbing surfaces. There was not one splash of color in the suite.
The bathrooms are gorgeous, but again there was so much darkness. The shower is dark brown with only minimal lighting. The brown absorbed so much of the light that there needed to be more choices of lights.
Sound: Sirens are a regular thing in Washington D.C. I'm glad that the windows open to allow in fresh air. However, when closed the windows could have been more soundproof to keep out the sirens. The few hours I was there, there were about 1 set of sirens per hour.
Food: Room service did an admirable job of accommodating my diet requests. However, I think that the menu is limited. They may have other things to offer than the room service menu. However, if so those offerings should be in the room and not require the guest to search the hotel to find them.
Right now, I think the hotel is a four star with the ability to be a five star, maybe. Proper signage, lighting and splashes of color are not too hard to effectuate. The fitness center and spa situation with the flights of stairs are not easy to change.
And a message to housekeeping: The glass lamp in the elevator lobby is just plain dirty. It could not have been dusted in at least 6 months to a year. Ugh.

Great hotel. Location, staff, cleanliness, everything was top notch. The rooms were huge and the beds very comfortable. Small details also made a difference - nice turndown, note form the General Manager etc. The bathrooms were huge too with wet area and a bath to swim in! Highly recommend this hotel.

Beautiful, large rooms, very clean, best-in-class staff. Conference facilities did not quite live up to the standards of the rest of the hotel.

The Park Hyatt's are always wonderful - and the Washington property is no exception! The restaurant is superb and the staff is wonderful.....plus, the rooms are very spacious and comfortable.
