“Unexpected Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

I spent several nights at this hotel for a tradeshow. The room was nice and spacious and I couldnt have asked for a nicer bathroom. The tub was sloped for comfort and there were lovely salts were set out next to it. The front desk staff was incredibly attentive and helpful, advising me to wait for a better room to open and coming to get me personally once the room was available. The conference food was better then most, as was the room service. The whole experience was so much better than I expected and I would go out of my way to stay there again just to get into Blue Duck!

Dear alik7,

Thank you for your review of our hotel. It is wonderful to read how much you enjoyed your stay with us during your conference, including the meals served during your meetings. Our event menus are actually inspired by the cuisine of Blue Duck Tavern, with some of the dishes even being the same. Please let us know when you return to the hotel and we'll be happy to assist with reservations at Blue Duck Tavern.

The Park Hyatt Washington DC is located in the West End area, near George Washington University.

The hotel is designed by Tony Chi, as are many of the Andaz hotels. This seems to be a prosperous relationship between the two parties. The décor can best be described as minimalist elegant.

As you approach the hotel, there is no shortage of doormen, with at least 3 present at all times.

As you enter the hotel, there is a small entryway/lobby with beautiful painted glass panes of cherry blossoms.

Check-in was quick and efficient. Not all of the on property benefits were explained, such as breakfast with having Diamond status. I was offered the 4 PM late check-out that is part of having Diamond status.

As I went in the “off season” I got a great rate of $220. Instead of using points, as this property is generally over $500 per night, I decided to pay and use my last Hyatt Suite Upgrade.

I was upgraded to the Park Executive Suite, which is a higher upgrade than their lowest level suite, the Park Parlor Suite.

Upon entering the room, there is a long hallway that leads to the rest of the room. There is a guest bathroom directly to the right. The counter space is rather large with Le Labo products.

At the end of the hallway, the room opens up into a very large living room with a dining table, coffee maker, very large couch and flat screen TV. There is a small fridge above the coffee maker that had 4 bottles of complimentary water.

The next room is a small office with a TV that swivels to switch between the office and bedroom. There is a sitting chair by the window in the office. There is also a pocket door that separates the office and bedroom from the living room. This helps to make two “separate” rooms if multiple people are staying in the room.

The bedroom is on the smaller side, with only the bed and minimal walking space around the bed. A Park Hyatt Washington DC branded bottle of water was set on each of the night stands. There is also a small mini-bar and fridge between the office and bedroom, but the contents are not complimentary.

The master bathroom is rather large. It is very wide, but not very deep. To the right is a rather large tub, with an open shower area. In the middle are double sinks with a plethora of counter space and Le Labo bath amenities. There are enough towels to open a small store. To the left is the closet, which does have a yoga mat (which is part of Hyatt’s new “Hyatt Has It” program.

As a Diamond member, breakfast was in the Blue Duck Tavern. The Short Rib Hash, is an upscale version of the classic Corned Beef Hash. It is served with olive oil poached eggs and horseradish sauce. The dish is somewhat surprising in that the hash is somewhat “loose” as the hash sits is a gravy type sauce. Although good, the dish was rather salty and could benefit from bread or some type of starch to cut down on the saltiness.

This is a great property that has a cozy, boutique feel. Customer service is generally excellent, as all employees are friendly and helpful.

I am definitely looking forward to my next stay here.

This hotel is perfection. From the bathroom/bathtub to the closets to the amenities. The restaurant in the hotel is one of the best in DC - be sure to check it out (a bit pricey but definitely worth it). The hotel itself is a short walk to Georgetown with awesome shopping and dining as well.

Room Tip: Upgrade if possible - you won't regret it!

I recently spend 2 nights at the Park Hyatt in Washington. This is a classy, hip, boutique hotel. The quality of the room was excellent. Their restaurant, Blue Duck is wonderful, and everything about this serene understated hotel is first class. I would definately return here. The hotel is about 3 blocks from the metro and is about 1 mile from the museums.

This was our third time back over the past few years to the Park Hyatt and continues to be a go-to weekend getaway for DC. A few things to keep in mind:
- Try to get a room rate 'deal'..the hotel makes regular rounds on Jetsetter and other Travel sites, so it is worth it to get a room around $250-300
- In the same vein, try to get breakfast included as it is fabulous and really adds to the luxe experience
- We have stayed in both the basic room that doesn't have the sitting area and the delux that has a separate sitting area. Of course, the larger room is much more desirable and very zen in keeping with the rest of the hotel's theme
- The lobby bar/restaurant is a treat! the bar has tea, cheese service that is just soo fun! the restaurant is excellent and is consistently on the top restaurant list for DC, so do try for it for a meal
- Location is completely subjective. Of course the hotel puts you in walking distance to Georgetown shopping, but definitely a 10-15 minute cab ride to the museums and Capitol Hill.

All in all, the Park Hyatt feels truly like a zen getaway, while still providing plenty of activity options in DC.

I cannot say enough about my stay at the Park Hyatt during a recent two-night business trip - the staff are attentive and eager to please, my room was spacious, elegant and clean as a whistle, and I enjoyed top-notch service at Blue Duck Tavern and the hotel lounge. My rate included breakfast, which allowed me to enjoy any breakfast entree at Blue Duck accompanied by a huge pot of green tea and a beautiful plate of multigrain toast that was enough for two. Wi-Fi was also included, and the hotel definitely caters to business travelers because I cannot imagine a more relaxing or accommodating environment to catch up on email, read the paper, or conduct a quiet meeting. I was also pleasantly surprised by how convenient it was to walk into Georgetown from the hotel, which allowed me to do a little shopping and visit a relative who attends the university. Overall, this place is worth every penny and I won't stay anywhere else in D.C. as long as a room is available at the Park Hyatt.

Just returned from 4 night stay for wife's birthday. Chose the corner room which is an upgrade.
No need to re-tell of all the wonderful things others say in past reviews as it is an exceptional hotel with the best staff EVER.
I'll just mention the couple items that could be improved that would make it perfect.
The room is a very drab off-white color with plenty of blemishes. The look of the room is very contemporary and it would be amazing with some funky/bright color in the rooms.
Edges of carpet around room all had dust, nothing that an attachment couldn't fix.
Limited storgae for clothes, there are no dressers just hanging area with a few shelves with baskets.
It is loud! Very close to GWU hospital and we felt as we were in an emergency zone with lots of sirens. At times it seemed as if there were no windows it was so loud.
The Blue Duck is great, make sure to get the AAA package that includes breakfast. Our cost for a regular American Breakfast for 2 would have run $80 plus with tax/tip. The restaurant is not really set-up to view food prep, maybe 20% of tables have that view. We had no view of kitchen for the 5 meals we ate.
Really enjoyed our stay and it is so close to great!!

Room Tip: be aware that outside rooms are very noisy.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us this past week for your wife's birthday! I happy to read how much you both enjoyed your visit with the exception of a few small details.
