“Great hotel! Families, read on...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2013

We visited Washington, D.C. for a short trip this past weekend. We stayed at the Omni because the rates were great, and it was a short walk to the zoo -- which was the main purpose of our trip. This hotel didn't disappoint. We traveled with our 7-year old son, so are always looking for certain "family friendly" features of the hotel and area, and the Omni Shoreham didn't disappoint.

First, when we checked in, our son received a backpack with some little toys and books, etc. which was great. It was especially helpful when we went to the pool -- he used the hackey sack in the pool for a game of catch. Also impressive was the cold milk and huge cookie waiting for us in the room. The cookie elves must have gotten to the room right when we checked in, since it was cold milk (hadn't been sitting there....) --- it was pretty impressive.

The hotel is clean, staff is friendly, and eager to be helpful. The location is right in the heart of a safe, busy urban area with a few streets filled with restaurants, pizza places, and a CVS (great for last minute items that you don't want to pay big bucks for at the hotel -- juice, snacks, etc...). Be warned -- the cost of food, etc. at the hotel is realllllyyyy high. We went to Open City diner across the street (see review) for breakfast (really good) and a pizza place for dinner. We did eat the buffet at Roberts for breakfast, which was about 55 bucks (with tip) for a fairly typical spread (omlet station, yogurt, breads, etc).

Pool area is great, and a little oasis tucked away from the city. Temperature of the pool is warm, and menu at the pool bar is pretty good. Again -- we paid 20 bucks for a glass of wine, bottle of milk, and a glass of gingerale. There is a sign asking you not to bring outside food/drink to the pool, so be prepared to spend some money if you want a snack or drink there.

Metro is several blocks away near the zoo, and the zoo was about a 15 minute walk through a nice, urban area with coffee shops and restaurants. There is a 7-11 somewhat near the zoo entrance as well if you want to save some money on drinks, etc.

We had a 2 bed Queen room (wanted a suite, but they were sold out). It was fairly good size for our little family. I imagine a larger family would have felt cramped. The bathroom was pretty tiny, but everything was beautiful decor, calming colors, etc. Plus, no mini-bar in the room which was a plus, since many hotels have them and charge for just lifting up the item (great when you have kids).

Don't miss the cool memorabilia in the lobby (a set-list written by John Lennon when the Beatles played there in the 60s was really cool) -- it is easy to pass by when running through. Take the time to stop and read the banners in the lobby that have interesting tidbits about the hotel's history in the past.

My only complaint (aside from the really highly priced incidentals) was that the housekeeping that cleaned our room after the first night didn't quite tidy the room to the level of an elegant hotel such as this one. Dirty plates were left in the room, no new towels were provided (if you leave dirty ones on the floor, they should be replaced), and no new glasses were provided. Also, when I went to get a Q-tip the second morning, there was an open packet of Q-tips in the bathroom container (that holds the cotton swabs, etc) even though none of us had used any. That was kinda gross. It did take 30 minutes for our car to pull around from the valet -- seemed much longer with an anxious 7-year old. So, be sure to call well ahead of time before you need your car so it is waiting when you need it.

Aside from those items, I really loved this hotel and would come back. I'd recommend it to anyone visiting the area who wanted a breath of fresh air outside the hustle bustle of downtown D.C.

Our stay at the Omni was one of the best we have ever had. Everyone was friendly, accomodating and very helpful. The room was comfortable and more than met our expectations. The service was exceptional, from arrival to departure. We most definitely would do it again and again!

The Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington DC is a magnificent historic structure, which has been beautifully restored to it's original grandeur. However every modern amenity is available in this historic hotel. The rooms are large, and beautifully appointed. The baths large and elegantly updated. This is THEE place to stay in D.C. fabulous pool and fitness center. Wonderful restaurant, great bar, fantastic service, nice shops. The staff at the Omni will make your stay beyond exceptional.

I would highly reccommend this hotel. All staff efficient, friendly. We have a dairy food allergy in our family & they were able to put a small fridge & microwave in our room. Room was clean with a clean & modern bathroom. Great location close to the metro.

It is always pleasant to have accommodations that leave little to be desired. The Omni Shoreham has never failed to give a good experience for my Washington visits. You know when the only thing to grouse about is the type of tea in your room that you have truly found "a winner"! The staff is top rate.

Like other reviewers, I was impressed by how well the Omni has been able to retain its old world charm.

My stay was only for 2 days and it was at the Omni which is an area near the Woodley Park area that I know well for restaurants (many terrific) and I could not have been more pleased to get it on Priceline. This trip I was driving so i knew the valet was pretty steep so i ended up parking nearby on the embassy streets where I came home late (usually after 8pm) and left early so I was in total DC parking compliance.

The lobby is just gorgeous and as importantly, has free wifi in it. So to get an early morning coffee and treat and sit in the lobby doing emails is a great thing.

I had a drink in their bar as well and it reminded me of a beautiful privatre club, albeit, few people in it if that was the goal. Bathroom was fairly small but recently renovated and had terrific bath products in it.

Room was large for DC but pretty uninspiring, comfortable bed but a little too sparsely furnished. Pleasant people and a very nice stay in an expensive city.

Room Tip: You can park on the nearby residential streets but watch the signs carefully. I asked for a balcony...

I was at the Omni for a Convention. It is a beautiful hotel with a rich history of class and service to entertainers, national figures and dignitaries. Besides the beauty of the foyer, the peaceful garden walk, and the cleanliness of the hallway and room I was very impressed by the feeling of welcome from the staff, especially housekeeping, the doormen, valets and even the maintenance workers who were redecorating a room. Everyone smiled and greeted you when they passed you and occasionally asked if there was anything I needed. The area around the hotel has many restaurants, a drugstore, a couple shops and the metro station is within walking distance. I would have liked to be able to access more information about local attractions and how to navigate the public transportation because I am not familiar with underground trains and wasn't sure how to get where I wanted to go.
