“Family Stay after 1 week in the Outer Banks”

Truly enjoyed this hotel, even after our room got hot and we had to be moved to another room. We got to check in at 10 AM in the morning, which was amazing. Close to restaurants. Pretty good breakfast buffet Attentive Staff, especially the maintenance employee that checked our AC and helped us get moved.

I stayed at the Omni Shoreham for a week from Oct. 14, in a King room on the 8th floor. After considering many hotels in different areas, I chose the Omni Shoreham and it turned out to be a great choice.

The hotel is beautifully maintained and luxurious, with lovely public areas, bars, restaurant and gift and coffee shop. My room was perfect; a very comfortable bed, great tv and chair from which to view it.

The location is excellent, only about 12 minutes from Metro Centre by Metro ,and the station is literally a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Near the Metro and hotel are many small shops, cafe and restaurants near if you don't want to eat in. After a day in downtown DC, it was great to return to the hotel to relax, and then wander around the local area for something to eat.

Absolutely highly recommended.

Room Tip: Get a room on a high floor overlooking the creek park.

As it happened, the timing of our most recent repeat visit to the Omni Shoreham was not ideal - Washington D.C. was hit by "Superstorm Sandy" a few days after our arrival. But Hotel Manager Allan Codore + his managerial colleagues pulled-out all the stops to look after their guests, with severely depleted staff resources - more on that later.

Tempted though we might be, it would be unfair to judge this impressive, expensive, historic hotel by the largely dysfunctional Front Desk. On our arrival day, we were too early to get into our room straightaway, so we came back in late afternoon. Accompanied by our personable Porter (Joe) we tried to gain entry to our allocated room, but couldn't. Joe used his "master" keycard, only to discover the room was already occupied - first major screw-up ! We were given an alternative, hoping that was the end of our problems - it wasn't. Four days into our advance-booked weeklong stay, we returned from some sightseeing to discover we were "locked out" - Room keycards clearly not programmed correctly ! We also had difficulty getting the correct "Guest Welcome Pack", got inaccurate replies to some queries to Front Desk, had problems getting our preferred newspaper, and had to argue over a wrongly allocated "Room Service Charge" before we left. Not impressive !!

In noting these unpardonable failures on the part of particular Front Desk staff, we must also acknowledge that a young Floridian, Emily, was excellent in her Front Desk role, showing great patience & helpfulness, and we were also impressed by her colleague Natalie. But as for the other people....

"Sandy" hit the area two days before our planned departure. With transport shut down, and dangerous conditions outdoors, the Omni was missing over 50 staff. Allan & company jumped to the rescue - maintaining basic housekeeping and other essential services & most noticeably serving dinner (we would argue that the Dining Room ran better than ever that night because the mainly manager Servers were clearly focussed on taking and delivering food orders !) Well done the management team ! (they probably hadn't time to notice their laudable performance coincided with an anniversary of the hotel's official opening).

For fear it might appear that we didn't notice other "positives" during our somewhat fraught stay, we must commend the consistently helpful Concierge staff, and of course the outstanding service Hassan & his team delivered in the "Marquee Lounge". Oh, and we definitely have to give a second mention to that wonderful character Joe, who having retrieved a messy "welcome to your room" on our arrival, conducted us off the premises with humour and efficiency !

[By the way, some of the "pluses" of the Omni Shoreham's neighbourhood include "Open City" - a friendly good-value cafe / diner - and a very convenient station for the safe, clean & efficient Washington Metro]

Room Tip: Check that there isn't a guest already occupying the room allocated to you !!!

We appreciate all of your feedback and we apologize that in the midst of so many wonderful service moments our front desk was not able to live up to what you encountered from the rest of our associates. Thank you for taking the time to bring attention to Allan, Hassan, Joe, Emily, and Natalie. It will be our pleasure to share your compliments with them and we know your next visit will display the high level of service in all departments that you have come to expect at our hotel.

This hotel is worth every penny. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The decor is gorgeous. The rooms are VERY large and updated. Everything is clean. The beds are comfy. If you join the 'select guest' program, which is free, you can have a hot or cold drink delivered to your room every morning, at no charge. There is a great diner across the street and the food is very reasonable. We travelled with our adult children and grandchildren and they made sure to give us connecting rooms. The hotel was also quiet and well insulated. We never even heard our 3 month old grandson cry through the wall next door. No noise in the hallway and no street noise either. The valet parking was quite expensive. We used it for the first night and then parked on the street a few blocks away. I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We had a room on the 8th floor, a corner room with a great view.

I love staying at this hotel. It is so beautiful, and about a half a block from the Metro. There are a number of good restaurants within walking distance. Best of all is it proximity to the Zoo. This is such a great wrap-up to a day, or early morning walk. We ate breakfast everyday in the hotel. It is a beautiful buffet....and grabbed enough fruit and yogurt "to go" that I never needed lunch. This hotel will do everything to make you happy.

Room Tip: I don't know. I've stayed there a bunch and always been happy. I would sign up as an Omni...

I've stayed at this hotel many times and rated it highly in the past. After our treatment by the smarmy and incompetent front desk staff this last trip I doubt I'll set foot it in again. We were traveling on per-arranged rates and billing. On check-in we were all told after inquiry that everything was approved. On checkout three days later the entire stay was put on our personal credit cards and we were called liars by both the front desk staff and management. They threw some forms at us, told us our cards were billed and tough luck. "Take it and leave."

So beware if you're traveling on business. They are not competent and will tell you anything. Be sure to check your bill if you don't like surprises.

Prior to booking my room, I read the reviews for Omni on Tripadvisor and Expedia. I expected something more than what I experienced. I was aware of the historical nostalgia of hotel, but not of the possibility that it hadn't been redecorated since the glory days. At some point in the past, I'm sure the carpet and decorating in the lobby was high end, but, now, it just appears run down. My room had a peculiar smell that can only be described as something in between mildew and sewer gas. The bathroom had been redecorated to a modern look but was small and awkward. On a positive note, I will say the check in process was smooth and the young lady helping me was extremely friendly. I did eat dinner in the hotel restaurant and had a nice experience. The waitress was great and the food was pretty decent as well. Will I stay there again? For the price I paid and the experience I had, No!
