I stay at the JW Marriott for weeks at a time for business. Their front desk staff is outstanding. The concierge is always helpful. The security staff greets me by name. Walter at the front desk is always so nice and greets me as an old friend. The whole front desk staff treats me like family. The rooms are always clean. The restaurant could use a change of menu, but the wait staff is excellent! The food is always delicious, but not much variety. The view from the concierge level is wonderful! The concierge room is well equipped and fresh food is always being served. This is my favorite hotel in Washington, DC>

My family and I had a rotten stay at the JW Marriott, which had been recommended to us as a family hotel. The first impressions were good. I'd gone onto the hotel website and booked two non-smoking rooms, adjacent if possible, for $219 a night each before taxes. We were given 1033 and 1035 but there was a distinct smell of smoke in 1035.

The main problem the first night was a loud and constant clacking noise in both rooms, as if someone was slamming a door or moving furniture around in the rooms directly above us. We got virtually no sleep that night. By looking at the hotel from outside the next morning it struck us that the noise was caused by the metallic ropes on the flagpole on the top of the building. I cannot believe we were the first guests to find this noise a problem.

I asked for a change in rooms and the staff gave us 950 and 952. The second night we slept well but the third night, March 17, was awful. Children on the floor were making a lot of noise until midnight. Every set of people who came off the elevators from midnight to 3.30 am began shouting at each other down the corridor. A drunk woman collapsed outside the room where my wife and daughter were trying to sleep. Two men walked past our rooms using obscene language. Their conversation went "F***", "----", "----", "----" all the way down the corridor. The hotel has guards at all the entrances checking for room keys but doesn't seem able or willing to control the behaviour of its guests.

Another problem was the chaotic system of hailing taxis at the cramped front entrance. Be warned -- this is a popular convention hotel and there is often a long line of people waiting to hail cabs. This process can take ages, especially when it is raining. We had dinner the first night with a friend who actually came to pick us up, such was the line of guests. We had an important lunch date at 1230 on the second day, so on the first night I asked whether I should book a cab. No need, said the doorman, just be here at midday. We were, and there must have been 40 people milling around. One doorman told us to wait in line while the other told us it would be quicker to leave the hotel and find a cab in the street.

The JW Marriott was recommended to us as a family hotel but quite frankly, we felt uncomfortable, exhausted and intimidated in the evenings. I complained at the front desk when we checked out and received a discount of $100. That said, we still ended up paying more than $1,500 for a miserable stay.

This is a fabulous hotel with friendly staff and great service. Went with my husband from March 9-11th and with our 5 month old baby. They promptly brought up a portable crib and set it up for us, as well as refrigerator and roll-away bed.

Hotel and rooms are very nice and decent sized rooms. Bathroom is nice as well as the amenties and towels are great! Not the normal white dingy towels, but nice light tan colored ones that appeared new and unstained! Also they offer 2 types of internet service..one for $4 which they call the 'slow one'...we got it and it was very fast...and another one for $10 per day which is supposed to be superfast for downloads, etc...

Large hotel, very close to white house, The Mall, and monuments. Many things in walking distance including above as well as restaurants and attached is a Filene's Basement! With a small baby we need refrigator to store formula but a microwave would have been nice to sterilize her bottles...but most hotes in DC do not offer microwaves.
Loved this hotel!

I had requested a room with a view on a high floor when I made the reservation. They set aside a specific room on the 10th floor. I asked if they could do better when we arrived and they gave us the front corner room on the 15th floor (highest floor with best facing view) which was also larger than all of the other rooms easily accomodating a roll away bed. This gesture set the tone for a great trip.

We booked the trip through Marriott and secured a 169/nt family fun rate that included all the kids meals for the President's Day weekend=Homerun! So it was my wife and I, daughter age 11 and son age 8 in the room. The beds (two doubles and a roll away) were very comfortable and were adorned with what seemed like brand new linens. 32" flat panel TV with a console that allowed me to hook up the camcorder (cool!). As luck had it we were in DC for probably the coldest weather of the season so it was nice to come back to a warm pool and hottub at the end of the day.

The staff at the JW trys really hard to take care of you. At check in they requested my wife and kids names. They had HagenDaz Ice cream sent to the room for the kids. The Valet made a mistake with my car and insisted on giving us free parking for that day because of the 10 minute delay (from my experience getting free parking from one of these hotels never happens).

Food at the hotel: We ate at the restaurant for breakfast only and it was the typical breakfast buffet...which was quite good and expensive as you would expect at an incity hotel.

Location: Is propoably the best thing going for this hotel. It is as close to the DC attractions as you can get (if you want to walk), the metro is a block away, and the park service "Tour Mobile" stops across the street. The Willard Hotel is on the same intersection.

We had a great and memorable 5 night stay at this Hotel and would recommend it highly for other families.

Once again the JW Marriott provided an outstanding lodging option while in Washington, DC. I have a corner room on the 15th floor, Penn Avenue & 14th street. What a view of the Capitol, White House and all the monuments!

Being a platium member, when I arrived my room already had a big basket of fruit, cheese & crackers, 2 bottles of vine and water and soft drinks. There was a hand-written letter thanking me for my many visits and asking to contact them if anything was a miss during my visit.

If you are staying downtown and want to be in the middle of everything this is the hotel. It is a large hotel and has a large hotel feel. So, if this is what you are after, the JW will deliver.

Okay people here is the scoop on JW Marriott,

Jw Marriott is one of the best location to stay in DC.
Near all major attrations, downtown businesses, restraurants and more.
It is easily accessible by public transport (metro centre, red/blue or orange line (take exit12&f and walk to 14&f and you are there). If you try drive, use yahoo maps and not mapquest (mp is not good with directions!!), if you know that its going to busy at the hotel, give a call... Large vans and such DEFINATLY call ahead they have height limitations.
Jw Marriott has got 1331, Avenue Grill and Roomservice.
AG is there for b'fast, lunch and early dinner (b'fast in the weekends is the best or ask for the Marriott Burger, mmmm mermory lane YUM.)
1331 is a bar/lounge is for lunch and dinner. It closes around 1.am. Food is good. Just a suggestion try the dessert. Look for the one with ice-cream and brownies. One will do for 2(its big).
Roomservice is 24hr.
Be aware though there is a limatation on the nightmenu. Its very good and very fresh. So enjoy

Other services of the hotel.
They hold bagage for free for guests only as its a security risk to hold bagage for others so watch it.
The gym is open 24hrs, if you wish to use it after 10.30pm or before 6.30. You will have to use your keycard to get in.
The swimmingpools is open from 7am till 10.30pm
There is a possibility a massage but do call ahead as they might be busy.
If you want really good info on the city, call the concierge ask for Raj. He knows the city like the back of his hand but he is there in the evenings and in the weekends(in the mornings).

The Rooms
There are several types of rooms, as they have 772rooms.
The rooms have a king bed or 2 queensize beds, facing courtyard/14street or facing Pennsylvania Avenue.
If you want with a view ask for an uneven room number and better yet ask for uneven (between 37 and 77).
If want acces to the balconies you need to have a room on the 7th or 12floor and even then not all of them have access so ask speficly.
The concierge floor rooms are the same but you have ask to the lounge which is good.

As you have seen with the previous reviews people complain about the elevators. It is a known problem. They are actually in the transition of changing them but it takes nearly 6months for just 1 change so... and also have to change not only the guest elevators but also the service elevators. So it is going to take some time. Please go ahead and complain to management, but it will not really help much.

But all in all when it comes down to the money.
Ask for a room with an uneven(37 to 77) number and then high up.

Stayed with Marriott Points December 26, 27, 28 of 2006. Very good location for seeing Washington. Can't comment on the nightly rate as it was free, the garage was $26 per day, we drove and left our car parked in the garage. Two blocks to The White House, a few blocks to the Washington Monument. Across the street from the Willard.

Room was beautiful with dark furnishings and flat screen TV. We used the indoor pool, work out room and jaccuzzi every day. It helped after a long day walking around DC. Can't comment on restaurant as we ate out every day and ended up in Georgetown restaurants at night.
