Rooms are very good size with excellent bathrooms. Check in was very easy and the staff are all very attentive and friendly, especially the concierge. Really great location to see the sights of DC. Only issue was the queue for the restaurant, about 30 people long which meant we had to go out for breakfast.

We enjoyed our stay over the 4th of July at the Hyatt Regency Washington. The hotel is in easy walking distance to the Capitol and many of the (free) Smithsonian museums as well as the really cool, but not free, Newseum - the hotel concierge offers a $5/ticket discount here.

The Lincoln Memorial and White House, towards the opposite end of the National Mall, are walkable albeit a bit of a hike.

TIP 1: If arriving by car the hotel charges ~$45-$50 per day for parking (similar to other hotels in this area). We opted to park in the garage at Union Station, 3 - 4 safe, well-lit blocks away, for $22 per day.

TIP 2: Don't pay the outrageous breakfast fee at the hotel (unless you want a huge breakfast, of course), instead, opt for The West Wing Cafe directly across the street. GREAT breakfast / lunch options and very moderately priced.

The one sour note is the hotel only offers free WiFi in the lobby, and charges some absurd amount per day if you want access in your room. It's 2013, WiFi should be standard in-room.

Room Tip: There are two elevator banks, one to the right and one to the left as you come down the escalator fr...

This is a large hotell, crowdy with many guests. The room was small, the beds were nice. It was very warm in WAS, so we really enjoyed the swimming pool. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially the restaurant staff.
The hotel is located near the railway station and Capitol Hill, but otherwise too far from museums, shops, restaurants. Next time we'll chose a hotell with better location. All in all good value for the money.

Stayed for two nights in April, first time in Washington DC.

Positives:
- Great location. The Mall, Capitol and The White House is within walking distance.
- Very clean and tidy room with very comfortable beds.
- Friendly staff, especially in the restaurant.
- Standard but fine breakfast buffet and surprisingly good dinner.
- Young kid loved the pool for a (chilly) evening swim.

Negatives:
- When booking we requested a microwave in the room in order to be able to prepare babyfood. We were promised that it wouldn't be a problem at all, that the microwave would be installed upon arrival, and that there would be no extra cost. We arrived late in the evening and didn't have a microwave installed in the room until the best morning at 10 am after three requests!
- Expensive valet parking but likely the DC price level.

Overall experience:
Great! Would definitely stay here again.

I recently stayed at the Hyatt on Capitol Hill for a conference. I took a cab from BWI (holy wow $86!) anyway, there is a cab stand right in front of the hotel, which was convenient for my trip back to the airport and was cheaper at $72. I was able to get my king room at early check in at around 2:30. My room was on the fourth floor and on the end of the hotel caddy corner from the fire station (I heard them a few times, but I am not used to city sounds--it might blend right in for you.) My room was comfortable, king bed, desk, chair, easy chair and foot rest, as well as a large flat screen TV, cordless and standard phone. A keypad safe in the closet was also complimentary As part of a group rate I had free wifi in my room, but I did have to call down and have them authorize this, it was trying to get me to pay for it. I think a day is $9.99 and 2 days is $19.99 otherwise. There is free wifi in the lobby. The hotel restaurant and bar are pretty pricey. My sangria at the bar (in a standard wine glass) while very good was $12, not many drinks under $10. I think a Sam Adams was $8 or $10. The restaurant Article One is $17 and up ( I wrote a separate review for that). Concierge was helpful. The on/off trolley and double decker bus tours stop in front of hotel and across the street which is convenient if that is your goal. I was pleased to find 2 "airline check in stations" just around the closet from the bell closet (which was very efficient and got my bags to me quickly). The check in computers have a home screen for the major airlines and allow you to print your boarding passes for free. I was impressed and would stay here again if in the area.

We stayed at this hotel approximately 6 years ago and had a great experience. We had such a good experience, that we decided to book this hotel for a second time. This stay was average at best. There were several reasons that our stay was not good. The first was the long elevator lines. This wasn't addressed immediately and the guests became very frustrated and yelling between guests broke out the night of the 4th of July. The customer service that we received the first night at the hotel was poor. We were yelled at by a server at the bar, in addition, the wait time for a drink was over 20 minutes. There were no apologies... although we knew it was the 4th, at least acknowledgine the wait time. There was a convention of students who stayed at the hotel and unfortunately there was not a good child to adult ratio. For the most part, these students were well behaved, there was a language barrier and at times some students were very rude. We did have good interactions with housekeeping, except for the night that we ordered extra blankets twice and they never arrived.

Room Tip: There are no views, so choose a room closer to the bottom floor. However, there is no access to the...

Stayed here the week of July 4th. The hotel was overrun with youth groups (running amok) and the employees were over worked and under staffed. The room was fine; the location was outstanding, close to the Capitol and other landmarks. But there was always a wait for and elevator (up to 40 minutes one night) and you cannot take the stairs from the lobby. (a rather large design flaw). I would not stay here on or near a holiday, and management needs to be aware to greatly increase staffing. They were doing the best that could, but service was slow and then people got nasty and cranky and things got out of hand. There is no privacy when using the computers to print boarding passes and the ‘business’ center requires using a credit card.
