“Great Hotel option - Right on the mall!”
Reviewed May 10, 2009

We stayed in this hotel on a 6 week trip to the US. Great Option and would stay there again. Right on the mall. Closest hotel we found.

Breakfast was fantastic and the hotel is quite large. Rooms a spacious and clean.

Great option for families / business travellers.

Only downside is there are not alot of restaurants / other eating options around. It is close to the subway though!

The location of this hotel is AMAZING. Although I'll admit it's a little pricey for the quality of the rooms, but cheap considering the prices of other places in D.C.. The rooms were rather small but were still clean and comfortable. The staff are really great, we had to book at the last minute and they happily found us a room during a busy time of year. Parking is a little tricky, but there is a convenient parking garage. I would recommend this hotel for any short stay in D.C.

My family and I just returned from a spring break vacation in DC and we stayed at the HI Wash Cap. I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend. The location is absolutely ideal for visiting all of the major monuments and museums. Everything is within a reasonable walking distance. The hotel restaurant (Capitol Bistro) served good food and w/ our coupons as HI Priority Club members and the "kids 12 and under eat free" promotion, we were able to save some $. The only small criticism w/ the rest. is that, on some nights, the service was slow. The hotel also has a tour desk. We booked the DC Trails eve tour of monuments and enjoyed it. Another negative is the daily parking fee (@ 30) but, on the plus side, you can enter and leave as often as you wish and on the day of check out your car can remain there 'til 5 p.m. or so. All in all, I would stay here again and recommend it.

The hotel is located in a great spot, pretty much right on the National Mall and very close to the main museums etc. All within walking distance. Plus, the metro stop is just around the corner and this will take you to most other parts of DC.

The hotel itself was great. Good size lobby with good facilites and amenities. The hotel restaurant was also great (albeit a little pricey). Service from the staff throughout my stay was uniformly excellent.

The room I had was also great. Was quite large (bigger than I expected), with plenty of room to spread out. King size bed, large bathroom and desk and chair with internet access. Room was clean and tidy and I had no real complaints.

The only negative with the hotel is that because it is in the museum/government district, there really isn't any nightlife to speak of and no real places to eat or hang out in the near vicinity (except for the hotel restaurant). However, many other restuarants & bars are only a short cab or train ride away. So no big problem in the end.

Overall, I had a great time here and will definitely stay there again.

We stayed here with another couple. They picked the hotel based on location and price.
The Front desk staff was very friendly every time we asked for anything. The rooms were OK but not great. There was a wet paint sign on the floor infront of the elevator the first day. Then every day itwas getting ripped untill just the tape was there. Tape was still there when we left 4 days latter.
We went to the Bar two nights. First night we just got bad service. Second night we never did get service.

Excellent location for the mall and museums and not far from the Capitol and Library of Congress. I was here on business with the National Gallery a 10 minute walk. Had stayed here several years ago and the location worked well for me. Room was fine and quiet (faced the inner courtyard). Lobby was large.

The metro is a short walk. No restaurants nearby. I ate in the hotel restaurant (Bistro) one night and thought it was good. For something quick there is a McDonalds a half block away. Also a Quiznos Subs and a Starbucks.. A CVS pharmacy next door. Always seemed to be cabsa round. Staff was friendly.
A good choice if you are touring the museums around the mall.

i write this while still at the property as I await my departure. I came to this hotel for a 6 night stay to witness the inauguration of the 44th President. The front desk staff was friendly and courteous upon arrival. The lobby area is spacious but filled with old furniture. I couldn't believe that on the day of the cermony the staff placed a bedroom sized television in the lobby for people to view this momentous occasion.
The bedroom was dusty as noted every time I turned on the lamp and dustballs flew. The rug was stained with spots. The desk chair never fit under the desk so this added to the already cramped space. Bedding was inadequate as the pillows could be rolled into a ball (that is how soft they were). Bathroom shower could never have a consistent temperature, if it ever got hot it quickly turned cold. You could also get a bath while showering as the bath water never drained out of the tub for approx fifteen minutes.
As to the food, a breakfast buffet was served daily and the menu never rotated. It left a lot to be desired and many days staff would stir up the hot items like oatmeal, grits, so that the crust that was forming on it would not be seen. If you joined breakfast close to closing time you would find that they were already starting to remove items and you had to ask to have a freshly made item.
What bothered me the most is that this hotel must have a rodent problem, considering the fact that when room service items were placed outside of the door they stayed for more than 24 hours.
