The Henley Park Hotel

We went to DC the first week of January and wanted to stay someplace that wasn't a big hotel chain. So, looked online and found The Henely Park Hotel, a historical hotel down by Chinatown. It is a beautiful hotel. The front desk, actually everyone was very nice and helpful. Had a lot questions, staff went out of their way to make us comfortable. Upon checking in, we were given a room upgrade The room was amazing, the lobby is decorated in authentic Victorian furniture and had Christmas decorations still up. There is a really nice restaurant and bar on the first floor, didn't have a chance to eat there, but looked like had nice menu (a little expensive). Think that there is a breakfast buffet on Sundays and live jazz music on Saturday nights. Will definitely be staying there again and recommend checking it out.

This was a good place to stay as someone who wanted to be safe in a city she'd never been in before and about which she had heard many many bad things! My first solo holiday in a new city, so I picked somewhere my mum would have been happy with! The location was good - relatively central and easy to access all the places I wanted to visit. There was the DC Circulator bus route (a life saver once I got my bearings) and was within walking distance of the White House and the Museums. The only downside when I was there was the unremitting heat! In fact one of the hotel guests collapsed of heat exhaustion, the staff dealt effectively with this once they were alerted, and there were nightly drops of bottled water to all guests in the hotel. There is a nice bar in the hotel with good snacks/food and a range of local beers. There is also a local shop/CVS for those who wish to provide their own nourishment.

Room Tip: My room overlooked some offices. This is probably unavoidable in a city like Washington!

It sounds as if you were prudent in your selection of a safe and quiet hotel for your first trip to Washington, D.C. You are right it can get very hot in the summer but the sights and amazing history of the area make it worth the effort. I am glad to hear that the staff responded well to the guest in distress. They often make me very proud.
I hope this will not be your last visit. Bring your Mom next time, she'll be happy with your choice as well.

Thank you,

Maggie Edwards

This hotel is ok. Just ok, not good, not bad. Stayed there for 4 days in February 2013. We had been told by friends that this hotel has some very small rooms so our booking service requested a medium sized room. We got room 404. It was newly decorated except for the carpet and generally reasonably comfortable fresh and clean. The carpet appeared to be older and plain in colour (a strange choice for an historic property) so it showed a lot of marks.

The room was overlooking a service corridor with an office building about 20 feet away from the windows and directly opposite so it was necessary to keep the curtains closed in the daytime. The hotel provides earplugs to deal with "city noise" but the only noise we could hear was the dumpster (sitting 4 floors below our windwows) being changed at 6.15am every weekday morning. Presumably the majority of rooms (which face a main road) do not have this problem.

Setting the heating system to the lowest setting (when it was below freezing outside) resulted in an unbearably hot room so we had to alternate between having the heating on and off which was not convenient.

Other than these two things the hotel was very adequate and the staff friendly. It is located at the edge of the central core of Washington across from the conference centre. As such it is not quite as convenient as some of the hotels for the Mall and other central attractions but certainly not too far away.

The hotel promotes its historic nature and rightly so, however the room, whilst traditionally furnished, had few if any original features and the decoration of the public areas is not particularly sympathetic in places.

So we came away fairly neutral about this hotel, being neither particularly impressed by it yet conversely not particularly disatisfied with it. If visiting Washington again for tourism we would prefer to stay somewhere a little closer to the Mall but the hotel itself was reasonably comfortable and the staff accommodating. The parts of the hotel that we saw were certainly not old and worn out as is suggested by some reviewers and the 3.5 star rating seems to be about right.

Room Tip: Ask not to be overlooking the service corridor (rooms ending in 4)

Pretty tudor hotel blocks from all the sights and near Convention Center. Yes, there is construction going on across the street, but our Sunday stay was quiet and we spent most of the day out and about. Our room was tastefully decorated and a lovely retreat to come back to after lots of walking. It was a treat to stay at a distinctive hotel at an incrediblely low price--probably due to the construction and maybe to the off-peak weekend in this semi-business district. The hotel itself is quiet and housekeeping was attentive and responsive. I would definitely stay at the Henley Park again.

Room Tip: Massachusetts Avenue is a busy street and if street noise bothers you, pay up for a quieter room awa...

I absolutely loved my 4 night stay at Henley Park. The old historic feeling was very charming and cozy. Beds are so comfortable. Staff went out of their way to accommodate whatever requests we had. The bar is a fun spot to have a drink. I only ate breakfast here but it was really good. The front room with couches and fire place was very welcoming and a nice spot to sit and relax. The whole feel of the hotel was just very positive and unique. I will be staying here again on my next trip to DC!!

Traveled to DC on business & tried this hotel on a colleague's recommendation. Fine choice! lovely furnishings, free wifi, solicitous staff. Valet parking is pricey. Happy hour dining choices are a great value for a light meal.

Room was a bit small, and heard some late night noise from the adjoining room but other than that, love this place! Very charming lobby and sitting room, nice bar (did not eat at the restaurant), helpful staff, clean rooms, great location. We met some friends for a weekend in DC and as we preparing to leave, their car's battery died. The staff sprang into action and found jumper cables within ten minutes. Very concerned and helpful, much appreciated. Will def stay here again!

Room Tip: Ask for a room without an adjoining door...also looked out the window and there was an office buildi...
