“Perfect Location - Excellent Value and Customer Service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2010

Stayed here with a small school group, 6 pre-teens w/ parents. Room configuration options allowed customization for each family. Yes, it is an old, historic hotel, but safe and well-maintained. Comfortable beds, clean sheets and towels, new blankets and comforters, clean carpet. Requested early check-in, 4 of 6 rooms available at 9AM! Requested late check-out, let us keep dbl family suite to store luggage w/2 baths to freshen up before departure. Requested refrigerators in each room and got them. Desk staff helpful w/directions. Harriet's Restaurant had coffee, juice, milk available for take out, so we could have cereal in our rooms for breakfast and save some $$$. Location cannot be beat - Hard Rock Cafe', Ford's Theatre, Old Post Office/Clocktower, Pennsylvania Ave. all a block away. Metro Center, Gallery Place and Federal Triangle Metro stations all within a couple of blocks to get anywhere in DC. We were not bothered by noise at all. ONLY drawback was single, small elevator to the top floors (but they let us use service elevator to get luggage up at check-in). Kids had fun going down the stairs!

This hotel is old, dirty and worn out. The rooms are small with decades of paint. The bedding was holey and ragged. The bath water was rusty in the first minutes. The furniture was old. I couldn't figure out how to regulate the room temperature. It seems like they cater to European tourists and traveling families who are really watching their budget, but have no aesthetic criteria. The staff was pleasant enough and the rate was cheap.

Was worried by previous negative reviews, but found HH to be much better than expected. Though old and definitely in need of a remodeling, hotel was very affordable compared to others within same location and was in the perfect location for our DC destinations, so close that we didn't even use our unlimited weekly metro cards for 2 days as we simply walked to sites such as Crime Museum, Ford's Theatre, Archives, etc... Room was a little small and older, but was clean and acceptable, enough so for a 7-day stay. Could walk to almost any DC attraction we wanted, was great. Two restaurants inside hotel, Harry's and Harriett's(good luck getting in here in evenings, was always reserved for tour groups), which were ok and a gift shop. Another restaurant, Ollie's Trolley, is also connected to hotel around block and is worth trying, good food, but only takes cash and charges for refills. ESPN Zone and Hard Rock very close by, along with some other good options. Metro Center station is only a few blocks north, very convenient for those few attractions we couldn't walk to. All in all, a good hotel for the money in comparison to others. The location is better than any other and saved us much time that would have been spent on Metro if had stayed at other hotels. Definitely will stay again when revisiting DC.

P.S. Don't forget to ask for a refrigerator....they provided me one for free...and they also accept AAA.

This hotel is close to all the monuments, spy museum, Ford theater, chinatown, Metro, bus line, restaurants, shops. great location. older but very clean. attached to two restaurants, Harry's and Harriets. didn't try Harry's, but Harriet's was awful. cheap eats nearby, so no need to eat at the hotel. very professional staff, we will go back.

The only redeeming quality of this property is that it is within easy waliking distance from moist of the main attractions of D.C.
Do not expect any amenities as this property has none. The hotel desk staff do not function as sources of helpful information for tourists and just refer you to the gift shop, and they only want to sell you what gets them the most commission. The rooms are dirty, hot water is dangerously hot, and electrical plug ins and switches are so loose, dirty, and not up to code as to make this a fire disaster waiting to happen.
The food in the resturaraunts is over-priced and barely edible.

After reading some negative reviews I wasn't sure what to expect but luckily we booked a room anyway and were very pleased. Yes, it's an older building but I think that added to its charm. The room was very clean and cleaned well every day (3 night stay). Everyone working there was very friendly and helpful. The Hotel was full for the Cherry Blossom Festival yet we didn't hear any noise from the rooms nearby or in the halls. We had 2 windows, one in the bedroom and one in the bath. Lots of natural light if desired. Parking is extremely reasonable and you can't ask for a better location! The nearest Metro station is only 2 blocks away and many of the sights are in walking distance. We'd be happy to stay at the Harrington next time in D.C.

We were not sure what to expect from some of the negative reviews. The hotel is known to be old and was what we expected. Our room was very clean, and in fact sheets seemed to be changed almost every day (we stayed a week). The deluxe family room with 2 teens was great because of the 2 bathrooms. I would say the value of this outweighs luxury for sure. Do not expect luxury or lots of space, but it was clean and quiet and had all the necessary things for a comfortable sleep . The shower pressure and temperature did vary, but was tolerable. Lots of restaurants and coffee shops near by and close to attractions. Overall a great location and we would stay again. You may want to request a higher level floor as it seems teen tours are on the lower floors. Also only soap is provided, so bring your own toiletries.
