“Great location, adequate for family vacation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2005

The hotel is very convenient for sightseeing. The metro is right under the hotel and the Smithsonian museums are a few blocks away. The buffet breakfast was nice and varied. The pool is fairly small and they charge $7 to use it. It was pretty crowded with kids, including ours. The rooms are decent sized and comfortable but we were near a soda machine and ice maker so we had alot of noise during the night. The staff were friendly and helpful but the concierge was not especially knowledgeable. Limited family dining options in the area and it does get pretty deserted after dark.

Just stayed at the Grand Hyatt for 1 night at New Year's Eve. My husband and I live in the area, but didn't want to risk driving outside of DC after drinking, so we booked a room.

The parking lot is horrendous...we have a mid size car and the maneuvering was highly inconvenient. No idea what the SUVs do..Check in was quick and easy..the room was nice..about in line with what we expected. Same for the bathroom.

The beds were averagely comfortable. A little too soft.

My biggest dissatisfaction came from the extremely loud heater/air conditioner. The room was uncomfortably hot and when we turned down the termostat the A/C came on and never stopped the whole night. The room didn't get any cooler..but the A/C gave me a headache.

We liked the sports bar downstairs and most of all the atmosphere and location

I visited D.C. this month and decided to stay at the Grand Hyatt due to it's central location.

Prices were reasonable, given it's central location. It's within walking distance of all major monuments and museums in D.C. One could also walk to Arlington Cemetery from the hotel. It took me approximately 1 hr to accomplish that.

Prices fluctuate between weekend and weekday rates. Do visit Hyatt.com to check rates.

Rooms are well furnished and of good size (I stayed in a single King bed room). Rooms were also well maintained.

I stayed here for 4 nights and was generally satisfied with the Grand Hyatt. It was particularly nice to have the Metro station right downstairs, and the shower was perhaps the best one I've ever had in a hotel room. However, I thought they were a bit fee-happy. A few examples: they charged $10 for "handling" because I shipped a package to myself (a small FedEx box with business papers in it), the wireless Internet service costs $9.95/day, they charged a hefty fee for shipping my small box back, and the health club (including the pool) costs $14/day. For the price, the room was nothing special. The service was generally good, with the exception of the sports bar, where every available table was covered with dirty dishes and it was impossible to get someone to notice we were there. Altogether, it was fine, but if I'm spending that kind of $$$ in DC in the future, I probably will look somewhere else first.

I stayed that the Grand Hyatt Washington while attending a large convention. About the only positive is the location of the hotel. It was very handy to be able to get on the Metro from the lower level of the hotel (Metro Center Station). We arrived early and did pre-checkin. After a museum visit we returned and they did not have the king room we had registered for (ie they gave us 2 beds for a special weekend for my husband and I). Nor was the staff helpful about resolving the issue--stating they had given away all the king beds despite us registering early in the am. The service was poor from the attitude and efficiency of the check in staff, to the restaurants, meeting staff, etc. It consistantly took 15-20 rings on the phone to get an answer from the front desk, room service, and restaurant reservations. The staff seemed overwhelmed and undertrained. The hotel cafe was closed and only the high-end restaurant was open when we were there. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Just spent three nights at the Grand Hyatt and had a very enjoyable stay. We booked a Regency Club room and stayed on the 8th floor. Our room was very nicely decorated with a very comfortable king bed and two chairs. The bathroom had granite counters and a tub with a slanted back and sufficient depth to enjoy soaking after a long day of sightseeing.

The Regency Club Lounge provided a nice breakfast, afternoon snacks, evening hors d'ouvres and nighttime cookies and drinks. Everything we had there was well presented and tasted excellent.

The hotel appears to have utilized feng shui principles and incorporated all of the elements into their rooms and public spaces.

We took advantage of the Metro and were able to go directly from Reagan National to the hotel lobby without going outside. Very convenient!

Would definintely go back again. Hated to leave.

The rooms are small, dumpy and not anything near what I expected out of a 5 star hotel. Frankly I would have been dissapointed if this was a 3 star hotel, and this was after an automatic upgrade to the Regency Club floor.
