“Very good and close to everything”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2009

Stayed in Hyatt 1/30-2/1 with by girlfriend. Had the room on the 10th floor withthe king size bed.

Spacious rooms and very clean. Bed was out of this world - had perfect rest both nights... Didn't try any other hotel activities or restaurants due to very active 2 days in dc... So much to see there and the hotel of course was used to stretch the legs and have a good night sleep. Everybody we met / delt with at the Hyatt was very nice and helpfull...

Parking right under and for a med price - 20$ for 24 hrs. Metro station was there also - although we did not use this type of transportation.

Highly recommend this place for a long weekend stay - perfect and closeto everything. Will be back!

I stayed at the Grand Hyatt on business during inauguration weekend, and I have to say that I don’t think they could have a better job managing the crazy atmosphere in Washington. Check in was convenient and easy, there was always friendly service to be had, and I never felt like I was being hoarded around by the masses even though this is a really big hotel.
The rooms were fine, nothing spectacular, but fine. I had really poor water pressure in the shower the first night, but I called in the morning and they got it fixed.
As it’s set up like an Embassy Suites with half the rooms facing the inner courtyard, I wouldn’t want to stay here on a romantic getaway, but for a business trip it was just great. And don’t be afraid if you are traveling here during a major conference or other event.

Very nice hotel and the location in D.C. is great. Rooms were very clean and spacious. My one complaint was the toilets looked like they belonged in a public bathroom. I also don't like the atrium where you can see curtain-covered windows to several of the hotel rooms. But those were minor complaints. Overall, a very nice stay and would recommend the hotel.

Super clean hotel with a great location. You can catch the subway without having to go outside. The discounted breakfast buffet was varied enough not to get boring.

However, for a hotel like a Hyatt I was surprised about the attitude of the staff. Its not that they were rude, just completely indifferent. We spent six days at this hotel and managed to see the same host at breakfast every day. You would have thought you would at least get a hello, but like the rest of the staff just grunts.

At least it was not just us because they seemed to treat their coworkers with the same indifference. Again, we were their for six days and hardly saw the staff interact with each other.

The structure and location were great, but the staff need their daily wellbutrin, and caffeine injection. Time to send your staff and management to happy camp!

  • Liked — Great location, super value
  • Disliked — Indifferent hotel staff.

Having stayed at the Grand Hyatt a year ago, we were looking forward to a great visit to DC. What we got were lots of problems. We used a debit card to book the trip, which we have done at many hotels for many years. The day we arrived home, we found that the Hyatt put a hold/charge for $2500 on our account; the actual hotel charges were $1000. They told us the problem occurred because we checked out on a weekend, but we checked out at noon on a Friday. At best, we'll have our money back to our account 3-5 business days after our stay. In addition, the last charge was added to our account the day AFTER we checked out. They should have taken the HOLD money from the account, not additional money. It's been two days since we checked out and we're still waiting to hear back from the hotel with a resolution to this.

In addition, the swimming pool was closed on New Year's Day, which we were not told at check-in. We were never given our breakfast vouchers and had to have the waiters/waitresses look up our account each day. We typically give cash as a tip at meals; one of the waitresses returned with our check to let us know that the tip was not included in the breakfast total!! There was a huge New Year's Eve party in the hotel, which we were not told by Reservations. The party down the hall (and in the hall!) was such that we had to keep our child in the room.

The room was great - the beds were comfy, everything was clean. The breakfast buffet was excellent. I'm not sure why a hotel with this rating doesn't include wireless access free of charge. Access to the Metro was dingy.

Would I stay here again? I don't think so.

Arrived at 1 pm and told that 4 of us (2 parents, 2 kids - 11 & 13 y/o) would have a king bed and no rollaways because the 2 double bed rooms were committed. The desk clerk offered extra bedding so the kids could sleep on the floor! All the rollaways had been "committed" as well. I paid $79 on hotwire for this room (the hotel was charging $89 on their website) due to low demand of the holiday season. I told the concierge my problem and he advised to call back at check in time at 3 pm to see if anything changed. The clerk who answered at 3 quickly informed me that there had been no changes and that they didn't expect any. The end. So I called hotwire at 6 pm before going back to the hotel. They agreed with me that this was unacceptable and tried twice to reach the hotel to see what the issue was - no one answered the phone. Around 7:30 pm we went to the front desk again and asked if there had been any changes. At that point we were offered a conference room suite with 2 rollaway beds. We took that option just so the kids could have a bed to sleep on, but my husband and I ended up sleeping on a very uncomfortable pull out sleeper sofa. This conference room did not have any beds, just a pull out sofa. We had asked for the rollaways around 7:30 I believe. At 9:30 they finally arrived. I made 2 phone calls to make sure they hadn't forgotten our request. Our kids were exhausted because of an early start to the day - and even at 8 pm wanted their beds - the fact that it took 2 hours to get them delivered - is not good service. I would probably not return to this hotel; however, it is close to Chinatown and the Circulator bus route so I would recommend it to others with a warning to make sure you clarify exactly the kind of room you want.

My wife and I stayed for 3 days at the Grand Hyatt. Where do I begin?... Lets just say that the location was superb! The Metro Station is underneath the Hotel (you take a very clean and safe walkway from the lobby underground to the entrance of the station). This will save you so much time from having to walk outside in the bitter cold to get to a station. Don't even bother taking taxis in DC. The Metro is safe, clean, organized and cheap! Another plus is that you can take the blue line from Reagan into and from the hotel (10-15 min ride for 2 bucks per person). The hotel is immaculately clean beginning in the lobby, lobby batroom (with flat screen TV inside of the mirror) , restaurants (i.e., Starbucks, sports bar, breakfast lounge, etc...) and most importantly rooms. For the first time in a long time I was not disgusted by a hotel bathroom. Not one hair was found in the tub, towels, bed linens, couches and the room had a very clean scent. The halls were very nicely lit and it felt very safe. Suggestion: ask for a room with a view overlooking the lobby (pool has a piano on top) but dont get one with an obstructed view (ledge with plants), Therefore, resist the self serve electronic check in as it wont give u a choice on the room. The check in staff was prompt, courteous and professional. We went during December so carols and christmas decor were everywhere (gorgeous). We found a great deal through travelocity ($250 per person with flight direct to reagan). The Grand Hyatt is so close to the MCI center where the nighlife and restaurants are located. Very safe at night and so close to the mall and whitehouse. The Capitol is the one buidling thats a bit far, but its a good thing because last year we stayed by the Capitol and not only was the area dead, but not the safest. All in all if you dont come across a good deal on this hotel its worth the splurge!!!!!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND (on same street of hotel): FIve Guys Burgers and Fries, Matchbox (Nighttime Hotspot with amazing food and drinks), Clyde's (for the chili, everything else is overrated and overpriced), Rosa Mexicana (best table-side guac), The House Where Lincoln Died, Ford's Theatre, Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum.
TO DO: Everything but the Zoo (We visited DC twice in a year because there is so much to do and it was awesome, BUT the Zoo felt like a wasted trip. Even with kids, this zoo is very plain and inactive. Way too much walking and not enough animals. A let-down for a Smithsonian Museum. DON'T miss the Holocaust Museum. It takes 2-3 hrs but it is incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!
