Recently stayed at the Dupont Circle Hotel for a short weekend trip in DC. From reading these reviews, I was already mentally prepared for the "modern" design of the bathroom, the no-curtain window blinds, the noise from the outside, and the small counterspace; what I wasn't prepared for was the surprisingly lack of service I received while I was there.
I arrived at the hotel at 2:35, 25 minutes earlier than check-in time. As expected, a room wasn't ready yet but the hotel would give me a call once one was. Thinking it might take a while, I left my bag with the bellhop at 2:45 and went for a walk outside. At 3:00 exactly on the dot, my phone rings and I'm informed a room is now ready. Really? How convenient. So I return to the hotel and head to the bellhop to retrieve my bag. He hands over my bag and then makes an awkward gesture for tip. A tip for what? For holding 1 bag for literally 15 minutes in the back room? I was appalled. Word must have traveled around to his buddies because from that point forward, the door to the hotel was only opened for me once by the doormen. Forget about above and beyond, how do you expect a tip when you don't even do your job?
The room itself was fine. It was really on the small side, but I didn't have any issues with it. The hotel has even addressed many of the aforementioned concerns from other reviewers. There is now a shower curtain, noise wasn't an issue for me, and bathrooms have cabinet space for those with extra stuff.
The next disappointment was in the cleaning service. I have never once been to a hotel/inn that didn't replenish soap/shampoo or at least tidy up a counterspace in a bathroom. For such a highly-rated hotel, I expected this at a minimum. Nope, didn't even get that. Came back to the room with a nicely-made bed and an untouched vanity area and no hand towels.
If you're looking for standout service, then this hotel is a gamble.
