“great location”
Reviewed November 1, 2009

after reading many reviews around washington hotels we chose this one. What great value the location is great , just a short walk to the metro and straight on the red line to union station great little dinner for breakfast there !!. Felt very safe and even used the metro at night. Rooms were clean and staff very frendily. good value for money.

Basic services but those provided are very good. We stayed 3 nights and found it quiet, convenient to Metro, and affordable compared to other establishments. This is a university area without other hotels nearby so there are no upscale eating places but we were able to find acceptable eaterys nearby. We were dinged $20 per night for parking but that is common in DC. Staff was very friendly and anxious to help. We would stay here again and recommend for those not interested in nightlife.

The metro is only 2 blocks away. you have Burger King next door, as well as a great pizza place across the street, however I do not recommend the italian restaurant next door. I plan to go back to Washington will defiantly stay again, room is very clean and spacious and great wifi service. Oh parking is about 20 dollars a day.

Where can you find a great hotel location in the city, close to a Metro stop, good eating within walking distance, drug stores and markets close by, and a Starbucks in Washington DC for under $200.00 a night? You can't, right? Impossible in the always booked, uber expensive, full of tourist and bureaucrats Washington DC, isn't it?

Well you'd be wrong. The Days Inn on Connecticut Avenue, in the heart of metro DC has all of the above. The rooms are surprisingly...well... maybe a little bit better than your typical Days Inn, but my room was in the front of the hotel, which was the recently remodeled part I heard.

Rumor had it from some of the group I was traveling with who were in the back of the hotel, that it was somewhat akin to a jail cell, but it didn't have bars on the windows. Complaints of housekeeping abounded from those unfortunate ones at the rear of the hotel, with one of my group complaining that he kept coming back to an unlocked hotel room. While nothing was ever missing from his room during our stay, it was none the less somewhat discomforting for him. Tales of maintenance never being on site to fix leaky faucets, replace missing drain stops from bathroom sinks, or replace burnt out light bulbs to keep those unfortunate guests from wandering around in the dark of their rooms, seemed to fill the breakfast table every morning.

My room however was comfortable, had cable, had pay TV movies, the bed was comfortable enough, and low and behold the Days Inn had FREE INTERNET. Take that Washington Hilton, who was full when I was in DC last, henceforth leading to the Days Inn habitation. I must say, being in the fortunate situation, or the fortunate part of the hotel, I had a rather pleasant stay.

The staff at the Days Inn were quite nice, but had a "we'll get to it" aura when problems arose, but never seemed to get to it. The hotel had a bit of an edgy feel to it as well. With that being said, the hotel was full of tourists, business folk, and those headed for the hill briefcase in hand, with no "edgy" issues heard of.

The lobby had two computer stations for guest use, and at one, the printer actually worked. A small lobby store was also just off of the reception desk, selling trinkets and coca cola along with the usual touristy stuff.

Dining close to the hotel was terrific. A fabulous Italian restaurant with outdoor dining was just downstairs in the hotel building, a Chinese restaurant was a block down the street which was quite good, pizza was across the street from the hotel, and there were several sandwich type shops close by.

I'd give the Days Inn on Connecticut Avenue 1 1/2 stars for the facility, but for the convenience, the location, being two blocks north of the Van Ness Metro stop, and the cheapest price around, it climbs up to about a 4 star. Would I stay there again? I believe I would.

This no frills hotel we stayed in for 6 nights is conveniently located to Giant grocery, restaurants, Starbucks, CVS pharmacy, Avis car rental and both metro train and bus. There are 3 computers in the lobby and 1 printer and a free coffee machine. Everyday The lobby staff was helpful and the night security guard also helped answer numerous questions. One evening I requested 3 set ups of extra towels and wash rags and they were delivered within 5 minutes. The availability to shop at the grocery store for inexpensive bottled water, fresh fruits, salads, etc. was a big plus to our stay. I had planned to rent a car and drive to Ocean City and eat crabs, but ran out of time. Having access to a rental car here is cheaper than renting at the airport and you get to park free at the hotel parking lot when you rent at this Avis. The draw backs….small bathroom and no free breakfast. Yes I would stay here again.

I went to D.C for the Protest Rally on 9/12. The accommodations were pleasant enough, but I should have know something was amiss when my daughter saw hotel mattresses being tossed out at the dumpster. You guessed it. Bed Bugs. My sister just spent $1100 to fumigate her house after discovering bed bugs biting her children. This was 2 weeks after our trip, well within the incubation period. Obviously, the bugs did not come with "Days Inn" tags on them, but after researching bed bugs, and given the fact that mattresses were being thrown out at the hotel dumpster, it is our best guess that my niece must have had a bug go home with her and infest their house. I invite the management of Days Inn - Washington to comment. Were they throwing out infested mattresses that weekend?

With prices as outrageous as they are in Washington D.C. this is an "affordable" hotel that is still close enough to attractions to make it worth while. It is about 2 blocks, 5 minute walk to the metro station. There are fast food options right around the hotel. It takes close to 20 minutes however to get down to The Mall area of D.C. so plan a little extra travel time. It is only 1 or 2 stops to the National Zoo which is a really nice way to visit the zoo often. The rooms were spacious for a Days Inn and very clean. Safety was not an issue either. I would probably stay here again if ever in D.C.
